We are back at it again with Vick Almighty customizing not one, but TWO sneakers on this episode of Customs & Restorations! Vick picked up the recently released Air Jordan 1 Metallic Burgundy to give them an aged/old-school look resembling the classic 1985 Jordan 1s. The thing is, one of these pairs will be chopped up and turned into low tops!
Vick begins the project by aging both pairs using his preferred technique, the coffee method! This gives the leather that perfectly aged tint that all the OG Jordans are now known for. It’s important that you wash your shoes after dying them with coffee, so be sure to pick up some Sneaker Laundry Pods and a Laundry Bag at Reshoevn8r.com!
Now that the shoes had the right tint, Vick began to work on the new sock liner for the low-top pair. The burgundy satin fabric was the perfect touch to add to this custom but Vick took it a step further and added a quilted stitch to give it a luxurious look. Creating a new sock liner was just the beginning.
The big chop! Cutting of the collar of a Jordan 1 High is a very meticulous process but Vick makes it look easy, almost like he’s done this before ???? Once the new sock liner was glued down and stitched in, he moved on to adjusting the tongues to fit the new low top. With some glue and a quick stitch, the tongues were reinstalled and perfectly aligned to the new dimensions of the shoe.
Before Vick could wrap up this custom, there were a few more finishing touches needed. He dyed both midsoles with the Foxtrot Uniform Sneaker Stainer, giving it a deep sail tone and added some old glue marks around the upper, reminiscent of the oxidized glue marks on the ’85 Jordans.
The last and most time consuming step of the this project was cracking all the metallic areas of the shoes to look exactly like the Metallic Pack from the 80’s. This detail was a staple in bringing these customs to life and Vick tackled this task with skill and patience.
Overall, Vick put in a lot of hours on these customs but the results were well worth the wait! Drop a comment on your favorite detail on these shoes!

Tops to cut the tongues off I'm going to Use an X-Acto Knife I'm going to slide In between the leather panel and the Tongue to chop the stitching still the Right pair right Tongues are off now let's AG the shoes For this step I'm going to need a tank Water and some coffee let's set it up Water is all good to go it's nice and Hot thanks to the Bucky heater I'm going Leave this inside so the water can stay Nice and hot next I'm going to dump some Coffee inside the brand doesn't matter At all I just grab some cheap stuff I'm Going to dump a bunch inside mix it all Up afterwards and put the shoes inside For this process it could take an hour 2 Hours maybe in 3 hours I'm going to keep A close eye on it once I get the perfect Tone I'll let you guys know how long it Took On all the shoes I put some rocks inside So they won't float Up all right it's been about 3 hours the Shoes smoking hot still it's got a nice Cream tone all around now I got to put These shoes inside the washing machine We got to wash out all the coffee Grounds and remove that coffee smell I'm Going to put them inside the laundry Bags put them in the washing machine With our detergent pots to eliminate the Smell and get them all cleaned Up while the shoes were drying I was
Shooting some hoops not bothering the Editing team at All sorry Ace now as you can see the Shoes have a nice creamy tin all around I wish it would have been creamier but That's as far as it could go any more Time in the water it'll ruin the leather When it comes to dying shoes using Coffee it can be very inconsistent some Areas are creamier than others one thing Too is on this panel right here there is Some slight creasing going on there's Nothing I could have done to avoid that The rest of the pairs look good except For this panel I'll see what I can do to Make it look a little bit better but as Of right now it is what it is next step I'm going to do is focus only on the Shoes that I'm going to turn into low Tops I got to make some new stock liners For the shoes so went to the fabric Store and got some Materials we got a nice beautiful s Material that's going to go nicely with The colorway of these shoes I got to add Some foam to it before I can sew it onto The shoes so first I'm going to fuse These two together using the iron and Then get the process Going the foam that I'm using has an Adhesive backing I'm going to place the Material over it then with the iron I'm Going to heat it up and it'll stick Together
All right before I cut out the pattern Piece I had a thought to do something New I wanted to give this custom some Extra details so I decided to do a Quilted design for this sock liner super Simple I'm just going to create some Lines using a ruler then take it to the Post bed to lay down some stitching got The lines all traced out off camera I Already did one of them this is what It's going to look like really easy to Do with the post machine I'm just going To go right over the lines that I Created to create the Stitch lines Really easy stuff Before I attached a new liner with the Patcher I got some Parson paper I Created a new pattern piece all I did Was put it on the shoe Trace out the Line right around this leather cut it's Going to make it a lot easier to sew on First I'll put the paper over the liner And trace it out Sock ler is attached right now with These clamps I'm going to use a Patcher To lock it In few liners attached Now using xacto Knife I'm going to carefully remove the Collar area [Music] Top is cut off next step is to flip the Stock liner over I already laid down Some glue all over the edges I'm going To heat it up and then carefully start
Flipping it over for this part I got to Take my time I don't want it to get Bunched up in areas I'm going to start Right in the middle then jump to the Sides I only apply glue to the edges Once that's done I'll lay down some glue All around I still need to remove the Stitching from the sole cuz once the Sock liner is fully flipped over I'm Going to go back restitch it that way The sock liner can be locked in with the [Music] Stitching now use a sewing all to put The stitching back in place that's going To lock it in from the Bottom stitching is complete on the mols To complete the low top conversion let's Work on the tongues roughly this is the Height I want the tongues on both Sneakers I'm going to grab a pen mark it Exactly where I want it I'm going to cut This much off leave some space so I can Sew it on with the Patcher before I cut It I'm going to create a Quick Stitch Line so it doesn't get undone I'm going To first cut it off glue it onto the Shoe and then sew it on [Music] Sewing is finally complete that took Forever but these are looking good so Far the hard part is out the way now We're going to age of sols using Fox Shot sale marker I always use this stuff I'm going to hit the entire out soole on
All four shoes with a heavy coat let it Sit for several hours after that I'm Going to use a rejuvenator wipe and wipe Off the excess to get the perfect tone I Want the only thing I got to do is watch Out for the uppers [Music] Bo M are age now to give it that real 85 OG Look we're going to add some glue stains Right above the mle just like almost Every single pair of the 85s you can see Some of the oxidized glue marks right Above the SLE line I'm going to recreate That using some angelist and a little Bit of dollar to eliminate the shine Aging is almost complete now we're on to The metallic areas like the sues on Almost every single 85 pair of metallics All the metallic areas are cracking it's A very fragile area we're going to try To replicate that using a sharp blade It's going to be very timeconsuming and Tedious process just going to sit there And create a bunch of random lines I'll Look at a couple references to make sure I'm doing it on point the only area I Got to stay away from is the [Music] Stitching to replicate the 85 look I'm Creating random lines all around I'm not Trying to overdo it or underdo it I'm Just trying to cover up all the metallic Areas in a tasteful way with the high
Top version I also got to do the collar Once the cracks are all done to give it That natural look I'm going to go in With some cream paint all over the Metallic areas to really make it stand Out all that's left to do to complete The 85 look is to lace them up with some Fox dry uniform Laces all right guys that's going to Bring us to an end on these custom Burger metallic Jordan one highs and Jordan one lows I love how these turned Out I work with a lot of metallics in The past and these definitely have that Look as simple as this custom was it Took a long time to get it to this point Starting with the Jordan one lows doing The conversion from a high top to a low Top is a straightforward process however If you want to do it right it takes a Long time same thing with the cracking On the metallic areas easy stuff just Grabb an xacto and paint however if you Want to do it right make sure you look At a bunch of reference photos before You start cutting into the material Besides the crack there was other Details that I put into these shoes to Make them look like 85s for example we Reshaped the toe boxes using the shoe Trees as you can see has a nice Sleek Look the MS are nicely aged same thing With the glue marks all around the laces Are from Fox uniform it's an exact
Replica of the laces they used to use on The 1985 original Jordan 1es again I Really love how these turned out the Burgundy metallic Jordan one was dope as Is but with this touch I need to make a Pair for myself don't forget you guys We're also in the middle of our July Giveaway we're giving away a pair of Born and Raised dunks or a pair of f Dunks in your size all you got to do is Subscribe to renator and comment down Below what shoe you would pick this is Vic Almighty I'll catch you guys on Monday see you guys
