The Adidas Adios Pro 3 was a serious contender for the best carbon plate running shoe. Yet while the lively ride happily propelled some runners towards PBs, a fussy fit left others less impressed. Now we’ve waited patiently for an update and seen the Evo Pro 1 land in the meantime. But now it’s finally here, the new Adidas Adios Pro 4 addresses those criticisms head on. There are brand new uppers to boost the comfort, a new midsole foam, a rocker that riffs off the Adios Pro Evo 1, plus carbon Energy Rods 2.0 – all in a lighter package. It all adds up to a potentially worthy successor, built for bossing your fastest training efforts and smashing race-day goals. But do the changes stack up to the best carbon race shoe going? Run Tester Kieran has logged the miles to find out. Hit play for his verdict in our Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 review.

Hey people welcome to the Run testers It's Kieran here and in this video I've Got my final verdict on the new Adidas Adios Pro 4 I've been cracking out big Miles and fast miles in this shoe and I'm ready to reveal The Good the Bad and What I think this shoe is best at how it Stacks up against the opposition so Let's get into the adios Pro 4 [Music] Review some quick details in starting With the stack K and the Adidas adios Pro 4 is one of the lowest stack carbon Races it packs 39 M in the hill 33 m in The 4T for a 6 mil drop that's half a Millimeter shaved off the 4T stack Compared to the adios Pro 3 which comes In now for a slightly lower drop in this Shoe the adios Pro 4 comes in at 202 G Or 7.1 o in my men's UK 8 and a half Test shoe that's 14 G or 0.6 o lighter Than the adios Pro 3 in the same shoe Size it's now much closer to the Nike Vaporfly next perent 3 and the aex metas Speed Sky Paris on weight but it's still A shade heavier than those rival carbon Plate running shoes which both come in Under 200 G price thank the Lord this One stays the same at 220 in the UK or $250 in the [Music] US quick shoe whip round then the adios Pro 4 has been given a complete overhaul Here the black and white design and the
New rocker geometry riff off those rare Expensive and Elite friendly Adidas adzo Pro Evo 1es but if the pro Evo one is a Super fast rat aimed at the elite level Level athletes than the adios Pro 4 here Is designed to suit a broader range of Runners regular folk like you and me Shooting for PBS across a range of Distances but it's definitely with Marathon running very much in mind for The shoe the midso features a new Formula Light Strike Pro that's tuned Differently from the phone that you'll Find in the Pro evo1 provides a little Bit of extra softness compared to the Adios Pro 3 the 4 foot rocker has been Moved back down the shoe to boost Efficiency that is now positioned at 60% Of the length of the shoe Uh the same as the pro Evo 1 and the Adios Pro 4 also carries the carbon Energy rods 2.0 similar to the ones that You'll find in the adios Pro 3 up top There are brand new light lock uppers With new locking bands little strips That go around here to provide a snug And secure fit and some additional Support these oneway stretch woven mesh ERS aimed to address one of the biggest Gripes with the adios Pro 3 was that the Some Runners found the fit somewhat Fussy a little bit uncomfortable it Wasn't quite as disappearing and Comfortable as some of the other carbon
Races some Runners including me also Experienced discomfort particularly Around the toe knuckle area from the Eyelets on the old shoe thankfully those Have changed too the thin wrapping Tongues are also now stitched in to Prevent the moving round they have a Little more lace pinch busting padd in Here and a key point on top of the foot And there's a simplified lacing Structure overall which makes it easier To get a good fit and reduce some Pressure points as I mentioned and boost That overall Comfort the racy and Minimal heel package stays largely the Same with just these kind of two small Pads on the inside for hold and comfort Only there is now a little bit more Additional padding right behind the heel At the back there presumably to adjust Some of the heel rubbing issues that Some Runners also suffered from this Shoe if you flip them over there is a Data mapped light traction out soole That keeps outsole rubber to a strategic Minimum to save weight and we got this Main kind of pad here on one of the key Landing points that's where Adidas Thinks we need the most protection this Also uses Continental grip Adidas has Made uh well ad has managed to make it Translucent which I think looks pretty [Music] Cool when it comes to fit and testing I
Ran in my regular Adidas running shoe Size which is a UK and a half on the Whole I found the fit much improved over The adios Pro 3 it's much easier to get The adios Pro 4 on position nicely and Comfortably and lock down it's yeah a Whole deal different from the fider Adios Pro 3 the improved stitched in Tongues really help with that and the Modified lace eyelets successfully Remove any of that pinching that you had Or rubbing around the toe Knuckles that Has gone which is a big plus generally I Found the heel hold was reliable midfoot Lockdown was Secure however there was a Big caveat here I had some issues with The length of the toe box it Narrows and Perhaps comes up like quarter of a size Too short I only noticed this deep into My Marathon test where my big toenails Were catching the end of the shoe on Shorter runs it wasn't a problem but Yeah after 18 16 17 18 miles I found Lots of toe catching Problem is I think going half a size out Might create problems elsewhere with Color looseness but I would definitely Pay close attention to length when You're choosing your size of the Shoe I've covered more than 50 miles in The Adidas Ado adios Pro 4 and put it Through some tough tests that includes An allout 5K a solo Marathon test There's a video of that on the channel
That you can find if you to go and check That out and some slower efforts to test The overall versatility I've done most Of that on the road some of it down at The track now I was one of the runners Who really struggled with the adios Pro Fit I like the ride generally speaking But the fit was a problem the first Thing you notice in the Pro 4 is how Much more natural comfortable and Disappearing the adios Pro 4 feels when You first lace them up when you put them On it changes the feel from a sort of I'll put it up I'll put up with it if I Really have to to kind of I enjoy Wearing these now for me it's the uppers That are the biggest step forward here If you like the energy of the adios Pro 3 but were put off by the uppers in the Fit I think the adios Pro 4 was going to Solve that for you and make it a more Interesting shoe now my only issue as I Mentioned in the fit section on Comfort Came deep into the marathon test my big Toenails on both feet caught the end of The shoe on the toe box and I could Almost feel them lifting the toenails It's quite narrow this and while running And post run I suffered quite badly I Got the sort of dreaded bruised black Toenails it was quite bad actually now This isn't uncommon to get black Toenails and running marathons in Certain shoes normally you can solve it
By going sort of half size up but Looking at other reviews I think it's Definitely a consideration for this shoe I'm not the only reviewer who's had a Problem with their big toes getting Beaten up while logging a Marathon Distance in the adios Pro 4 going half a Size up might eradicate the issue but I Fear that sacrifice the good fit you get Elsewhere in the shoe so that is Definitely something to consider here on The ride though this is everything that You want from a carbon ratio it's light Lively and fast it packs that important Super Shoe punch like the Pro 3 this is A shoe that's full of energy it's great Fun to run in it urges you to pick up The pace it dares you to push harder and It lets you do it without feeling like You're going to pay the full effort Price for it when you're moving with Your best intent the adios Pro 4 gives Back an awful lot the new Light Strike Pro foam is softer than the Pro 3 I Think some people would say sort of less Harsh depending on how you found the pro Three some people like that kind of more Sort immediate sort of stiffness that You got but there's more bounce coming Back from the midsole here I think the New rocker also I I find definitely adds Something it sort of delivers smoother Transitions than got with the Pro 3 one Thing to watch uh the Mido softness I
Think makes it somewhat less stable in The heel there's a bit more wobble if You're Landing further back from the Foam itself however if you're Landing Mid to 4 foot that's not an issue and The flip to this I think is the there's A less pronounced kind of heel cutway And that's reduced some of the feelings Of the outwards role that I experienced The adios Pro 3 when you were sort of Moving slower or further back on your Heels so this made the pro four I think Better more accommodating at slower Paces good for when the wheels come off Off overall I think the adios Pro 4 is a More reliable and forgiving platform for Those moments where you're running a bit Tired and a bit ragged and tonel wo Aside I found the cushion and protection Of the shoe on point particularly when My struggled and my Pace really dropped Towards the end of that Marathon test I Was really on The Struggle Bus and it Didn't feel like I was exposed in a sort Of two minimal Shoe verdict then and the update to the Adios Pro for work aside from the toe Busting kind of length issue which might Be fixed by sizing up the uppers are a Huge Improvement the mid sole packs all The punch you look for in a carbon race Shoe Continental grip holds the road With excellent reliability the shoe Feels durable for a carbon racer overall
It's a good package here this is a shoe That works best though when you're Moving fast it responds better to locked In form and top speed efforts Unsurprisingly as a carbon shoe and it's Right up there though with the likes of The aex metas speed Sky Paris i' say the Nike alphafly next % as a top you know Race day potential shoe it's also Considerably cheaper than the latter of Those now if you like the adios Pro 3 You'll like this shoe it is softer but I Don't think it's gone too soft I think It still retains the immediacy and the Energy of the adios Pro 3 but marginally More forgiving Edge which arguably could Be better when things aren't going According to your race plan now if you Can beat the toenail wos I think this is A great Marathon racing candidate if not If you can't get on with those toe Issues or you can't fix the toe issues It's probably only a winning shoe for Sort of allout guns blazing racing up to The Half Marathon distance where that's Not going to come as such a problem but If you're buying it with a marathon in Mind I would definitely consider the Sizing here for length now if you got on Okay with the uppers and the ride of the Adios Pro 3 I wouldn't say there's kind Of any reason to ently run out and Upgrade to this shoe uh you know also I Think you can still look for deals on
The old adios Pro 3 if you really Enjoyed that shoe if you didn't or you Found a few things that you weren't sure About the OS Pro 3 the fit bit the Harshness in the ride those kind of Things then I think you know re check Out the edos Pro 4 because I think it Might bring a little bit you know Something a bit Different so there you have it that's The verdict on the adios Pro 4 I hope You found it useful drop us a like if You did if you're not subscribed to the Channel we'd love you to do us that Honor if you're hunting for a carbon Racer I'm going to put our very very In-depth Guide to the rest of the Options up on the channel now go check That out otherwise thanks for stopping By and until next time happy running People
