Hey people, welcome to the run testers. It is Kieran here and I have got the new Adidas Addi0ero Boston 13 in my hand. This is the training partner to the Addios Pro 4. Boston 12 was popular Among a lot of runners. Adidas is back With this shoe. They've made some Changes to the midsole and to the Uppers. I would say the tweaks are Pretty minor designed to give you more Comfort on those longer training runs Mainly and add a bit more snap to the Shoe. Has it all worked? Well, I didn't Run in the 12. This is the first time I've run in the Boston for a little While, but I have taken the Boston 13 For a first few miles to see what I make Of them. Watch on to find Out. Quick details then. And when it Comes to stack height, there's a bit of Change. The Boston 13 now packs 36 ms in The hill, 30 ms in the fore foot for a 6 Mil drop. That is down from 3831 and What was a 7 mil drop in the Boston 12. On weight, we're staying roughly the Same. There is 2 g shed off this shoe. The official number from Adidas is 258 Gram and it came in at 9.1 oz or 259 g In our UK men's 8 12 or US 9 test shoe. On price, I'm going to pop that up on The screen now because I didn't have it At the time that I was recording these Talky Bits. So, let's take a quick look at
What's new with the Adidas Boston 13. Adidas told us the focus here was to Keep the identity of the Boston 12 that A lot of people loved as a training Partner to the Addios Pro 4, but to Bring a bit more comfort. So, although It is 2 g lighter, shaving weight wasn't A priority in the design process, they Said. And in many ways, this shoe stays The same. But there are some notable Changes. Starting with a new midsole Setup. You've still got a dual foam Setup here with a combination of light Strike pro and light strike, but there Is now more light strike pro 13.8 8% More to be exact according to Adidas With much of that coming in the forefoot In a bid to make a snappier feel. Now Adidas told us they wanted the Transition the toe off to feel more like An Atti Zero shoe bringing some Familiarity if and when you step up from This shoe to the Addios Pro 4 on race Day. So that's what they've gone for Here. So what you get is a thin layer of Light strike in the forefoot, a thicker Layer of light strike in the heel for Stability. Then you've got the energy Rod system in between. And finally, You've got that top layer of Light Strike Pro with more of that in the Foreoot than you've got in their heel. There are tweaks up top, too. You've Still got an engineered mesh that is
Pretty structured, but the tongue and The heels now come with more padding to Help add a bit more training comfort for Those longer training miles. The Boston 12 everything was a little bit more Minimal and racy, and that was not what Everybody wanted, particularly for Longer training runs. These are now, I Would describe them as medium padded Heel collars and quite a light sort of Padded tongue. It's not too thick. If You flip them over, you've got a good Covering of outsole rubber. There's some Big Continental pads here in the main Forefoot strike area, and you got this Back pad here in the heel area. The rest Of it is the light traction rubber System elsewhere that you'll find on Some of Add's racy Shoes. Quick word on fit then, and I ran In a UK and a half, that is a US 9 in Adas. Now, with the Addios Pro 4, I've Had a bit of problem with that shoe in Terms of the length of the toe box in a UK and a half, which would be my regular Size in Adidas shoe. So, I went for an 8 And a half in this one as well because It can be a bit two and fro. I know some People have said, "Oh, you've got to go To a US 9 and a half because that's the Shoe you should be in in terms of Adidas Sizing. But I get a mixed bag here." So, Anyway, on this shoe, this is different To the Pro 4. I've got good clearance
Towards the end of the toe box. On that Run, I had no problems with that bashing Up against the end of the toe. It's Going to be interesting to see if that's The case over the longer mileage. But Actually, I find the fit in this just to Be almost kind of spoton. It holds Really nicely. It's not too tight across The toe knuckles here. Just has enough Stretch and enough flex, but I feel nice And secure. The midfoot hold was bang On. Can lock it down without any Trouble. I I feel well held in these Sides. There's good kind of structure Here from this upper which has quite a Lot of structure to it. Back into the Heel collars. That medium padding works Really nicely. The sort of lightly Padded tongues here as well. Take the Lace pinch off. All of it felt well Held. And so far from the miles I've Done in this first run test, I would Recommend going true to Size. So I've just finished my first run In the Boston 13. I did a six mile Progression run of sorts where I Basically just steadily up the pace up To the fourth mile. Five and six I eased Off a bit. Did it all on the road around Here. First thing I think the comfort on The foot is really good. I really like The way they hold the midfoot. I think There's sort of just enough room in the Toe box. They felt pretty disappearing.
Pretty comfortable overall. Felt well Held. All of that stuff worked. An easy Shoe to put on and go out and run your First run in. You know, some shoes You're worried when you first put them On how they're going to feel. this one. Yeah, no problem getting on the feet and Getting moving. Feel comfortable from That point. Good stepping, I guess, is What I'm saying. Then on the move, first Impressions, the first sensation I got Was they're actually quite blocky. I was Expecting them to be a bit softer and a Bit bouncier, a bit more, you know, kin To the Addios Pro 4 if this is the Training shoe that relates to that. But It's a very different ride, perhaps Unsurprisingly. I've not run the Boston 12, so I haven't got anything to compare This to. But it was blockier than I Thought it would be. I thought you're Going to get more spring from the light Strike pro, but actually the light Strike is underneath. It's creating, I Think, like a really good stable base. It's a bit blocky initially. I think It's going to break in over longer Miles. It started to towards the end of That run, but it was a bit little bit Bricky to begin with. It eased off when I was running at faster paces, but I had Most of that sensation in the early Miles when I was running a little bit Slower. As I picked up, I actually
Really felt like there was a snappiness To it. If Adidas was aiming to get a bit More snap out of this shoe, I think you Are getting that. It's more kind of a Response and a snap rather than a kind Of a bounce and a bound. It's kind of Controlled. It's kind of balanced. It Feels really nicely stable. Some people Might, I think, find it a bit firm. the Cushioning. You know, if I'm thinking About other shoes in this sort of mark, Like I'm think about the New Balance SC Trainer V3, which you know is much Softer. Um, thinking about the Super Blast, which to me feels much softer. Those kind of shoes feel very different To this. I really like the way this Rides, though. I like a firmer, snappier Shoe that requires a bit of a sort of Faster foot turnover, but does take the Edge off the road. And I think you get a Lot of that when I clipped up to around 650 pace. They handled it really well, But actually I really enjoyed them for Just cruising along at the kind of 730s, Which at the moment is probably closer To my sort of regular endurance pace Now. Bit blocky at the slower paces, but Overall I enjoyed the way these felt on The [Music] Foot. Quick first impressions after Initial 6 miles. Then overall, I kind of Like what I see here. I like the way
They feel on the foot. Thought the ride Was a bit blocky initially, but I think That's going to soften up. And then when You're moving with a slightly faster Foot turnover at a slightly faster pace, That blockiness kind of sort of Dissipates a bit and you get a bit more Snap from that kind of fore foot. What You get the light strike pro in the Forefoot really works well. You can feel There's more snap to this shoe. So Overall, a lot of what I would look for In a good daily trainer for doing kind Of longer mileage, good reliable Landings, good stability, perhaps not as Cushioned as some people might want for Slower, heavier runs or bigger, longer Mileage, but I personally don't mind a Firmer shoe. I like a shoe that kind of Makes you pick your feet and do a bit of The work. Doesn't make you feel lazy. I Think these certainly don't. I do also Do think it's going to soften up over Longer mileage. So yeah, first Impressions. I think this could be a Good rotation shoe. And to me, it does Sort of have the hallmarks of a good Training partner for the Addios Pro 4. More miles are required in testing Though to see how it fares when we do Different runs, longer runs certainly as One. How's it going to fair when you Start doing kind of an hour and a half Runs in this shoe? We will find out in
The review. But for now, yeah, what I've Seen so far from this first 6 milesi at A range of paces, the Boston 13 feels Like my kind of shoe. So, there you have It.
