The adidas EVO SL takes learnings from the brand’s top-tier performance shoes to provide a ride that covers everything from easy runs to race day. That’s largely thanks to a thick layer of LIGHTSTRIKE PRO midsole foam that’s designed to be soft, comfortable and ensure a high level of energy return.

The Saucony Ride 18 is a daily shoe that receives a few updates to the popular Ride 17. The biggest of those is the addition of PWRRUN+ in the midsole, a foam designed to make the shoe lighter, softer and more responsive than its predecessor, as well as an improved level of energy return.

The outsole also aims to have better durability and grip, alongside a a smoother ride due to flex grooves towards the front of the shoe.

Hey Tommy from the Run testers in this Video I'm going to be doing a comparison Of the Adidas Evo SL and the S ride 18 Let's take a [Music] Look the Addidas adzo Evo SL costs £130 Or $150 it weighs 224 G or 7.9 o for men In a size 8.5 and the drop is 6 mm the Sakon ride 18 costs £130 or $40 it Weighs 266 G or 9.4 Oz for men in the Size 8 and the drop is 8 Mm the Adidas Evo SL takes learnings From the Brand's top tier performance Shoes to provide a ride that covers Everything from Easy runs to race day That's largely thanks to a thick layer Of Light Strike Pro Midol foam that's Designed to be soft comfortable and Ensure a high level of energy return the Upper is made from a lightweight and Breathable engineered mesh to deliver Comfort and ventilation while the outs Soole features a combination of Continental rubber on the forefoot and Clear rubber towards the heel of the Shoe aiming to provide grip and Protection without increasing the weight The shoe also has plenty of padding Around the ankle collar as well as a Slightly rocket geometry for smooth heel To toow transition the soy ride 18 is a Daily shoe that receives a few updates To the popular ride 17 the biggest of Those is the addition of power run Plus

In the midsole a foam designed to make The shoe lighter softer and more Responsive than its predecessor as well As an improved level of energy return The outsole also aims to have better Durability and grip alongside a smoother Ride due to flex grooves towards the Front of the shoe finally there's a new Engineered mesh upper to increase Breathability and provide a stretchy fit To improve lockdown and comfort in Addition there's an updated heel collor Designed for an improved level of Cushioning the shoe is also available in A wide Version okay so the fit for me in these Two shoes is quite different uh the S Ride 18 very roomy shoe I'm size8 in the UK this is a size eight I probably Should have gone down half a size in This shoe loads of space before my big Toe loads of space around the side of The shoe uh mid midsection of the shoes Absolutely fine so even though it's got The extra space I didn't find it hard to Get a lock down fit so if you do want Loads of extra room it's not going to be A problem for you to get a lock down fit If you've got fairly average with feet Like me plenty of padding in it I had no Problem with heel lock or anything like That um found to be a very comfortable Shoe but there's just a lot of space in The for foot which I didn't really

Notice on the run but for some people They might um the Adidas EV Uh the opposite so um I generally go up Half a size in Adidas shoes most people Do in the UK um I tried on a few Different uh versions of this shoe in The shop um and even though the eight For me felt okay when I press down I did Feel that my toes were getting a bit Close to the end um so I went up half Size and I'm glad I did very comfortable Um there's quite a room issue overall um So um it's not if you've got very Average with Fe you're not going to find It a narrow shoe or anything like that Um but pretty easy to get a lock down Fit in very comfortable uh so I would go Up half size in the Adidas EOS okay so these two shoes are shoes That you might be looking at if you want A a daily trainer that can maybe be a Bit more versatile and you can do Different types of runs in maybe you're Looking for just one shoe and you don't Want to spend loads and loads of money These are both fairly competitively Priced shoes when you compare them with Some of the other shoes in their their Own ranges um so let's start off with The Adidas Evo SL uh incredible shoe This shoe um is it uses takes learnings From some of the performance the more Expensive performance shoes in the Adidas line um including Light Strike

Pro this full Light Strike Pro midsole Um and turns it into a a daily versatile Shoe and it works it really works well For the price it's really impressive What this shoe can do I used it for Probably done about 50 60k in this shoe So far and the runs I've done in it have Varied so I've done 10K easy runs uh Longer runs in it and I did a interval Session in it and it works great for all Of those runs it's just got this light Stri Pro mol is it's quite soft but not To the point where it feels like it's Slowing you down or it's sluggish it Feels like it's got a nice bit of energy Return in it feels like it's got a Little bit of a kick to it um and also Uh it's got a lovely transition as well It's a really it's a shoe that can Really adapt to the speed that you're Running in it um so it for me it's Probably a shoe that goes down really Well it's a a really good allrounder Shoe um definitely a shoe that maybe if You were planning on doing a race and You didn't want to buy a carbon plate Shoe and you want to do lots of your Training in the same shoe um this is a Great option because I could definitely See myself racing in this shoe um Despite the fact that I normally race in Compa shoes all the time so it is a Fantastically versatile shoe lovely He Lovely he to toe transition really um

Just really allows you to do anything in It but as I said I've used it for easy Runs and I like this midsole for easy Runs I find that it lands really nicely Um and you just get enough bounce back Back to just make the Run nice and Comfortable um and enjoyable uh so Fantastic shoe really really good and Really comes down to that versatility um Of this shoe that's that's that's where For the price it's really impressive uh The soy ride 18 so the so line is a bit Of a daily Workhorse really um you can Use the uh the previous rides we've all Been big fans of the the previous rides Really comfortable slightly versatile Training shoe the fits into that world Of cushion daily shoes um but it's Probably just a little bit more to it Than what you get from some other ones Things like the glycerin 22 and and Shoes like that which really Veer more Towards that easyest side of running and Not really the fastest side there's a Bit more to the ride 18 um the the Midsole power and plus midsole it's Nicely balanced it's it's a little bit Firmer than what you get in the Evo SL Um but it's got a nice transition um It's very comfortable it's all about Comfort this shoe uh and reliability It's very stable um it's got a nice uh It's got just got maybe a little bit of Bounce but not loads um but it

Definitely feels that mid isn't giving You giving too much away it's it's it's Adding to the run without really making It massively noticeable um So I've I've used this for about 450k Now and um the runs that it seems to Work for are the easy runs for me Although all the all the consistent runs For me so for that for me an easy run Would be about 520 km I've probably been Doing about 455 in this and it feels Great nice smooth turnover very Comfortable no issues sort of shoe that You go out running in you don't think About it you the shoe is not your Problem it's just maybe you're getting Tired but you're not thinking about the Shoe uh and this this is that shoe it's A great Workhorse I think for a lot of People it's it's a shoe that uh could Fit into rotation very very nicely um is The shoe that just soaks up the miles um Maybe you know you're not going to go Out and do interval sessions in it um But most of the stuff you're doing at Easy runs those consistent runs longer Runs just eats them up no issues at all You know it the experience isn't like um You're getting loads of bounce back or There's an aggressive rocker in it it's Just comfy it's just reliable it's which Just you get home and go great that was A good run shoes were fine that's what That's what you want from it that's what

You get from it um it is is a little bit More vers than some Cushing Cruisers you Get but it's not massively so um for Some people that's that'll be absolutely Fine but if you're the sort of Runner That's buying one shoe and you're doing A lot of interval sessions and things Probably going to cap out on this Adidas Eosl would be perfect for that uh this Is probably a little bit further down The the the easy list than um than that So comparing the two really comes down To that versatility for me um the ride 18 is more of your sort of daily work Course can do a bit more but isn't Probably designed massively before it um Whereas eosl is just faster um more Versatile and just a bit more to it it's More of an experience um than a reliable Uh shoe when you're out on the Run uh The out soole on the uh R 18 very good Good layer of rubber on it nice bit of Grip I have no issues Runing on the rain And it's been raining consistently at The moment so I've been able to do a lot Of ring in the rain um absolutely fine There's a bit of exposed midle on here But it seems pretty sturdy it doesn't Seem to be wearing down at all um so Yeah all all good on the ride 18 the Adidas evos so this is a little bit um Of a leaner uh outso it takes learnings From the race shoes uh it's got Continental rubber at the front and

There's clear rubber at the back but Quite a lot of exposed Mido um this Outso rub is really really good Surprisingly I didn't think it would be As good as it was really good at grip no Issues at running in the wet and not Really any signs of the Mido um um being Worn down at all as well so quite Impressive outside for something that's So thin and so lean to um presumably Keep the weight down and keep it a bit Faster um so yeah all in all two very Different shoes but two very good Shoes okay so my verdict on these two Shoes pretty simple um I think if you're Looking for a solid daily shoe you want Stability maybe you're a bit more of a General Runner maybe you're a beginner Um maybe your your main focus is comfort And support and and just going out and Having a comfortable run I think you go For the ride 18 I think it's just an all Around very solid great daily Cushing Shoe uh and for the price when you Compare it to some of the other options Out they like the try 22 or the G 22 I Think the ride 18 is superior to those Shoes um and just has a bit more to it Um so yeah really good solid Workhorse Shoe I can't can't really go wrong with It the only the only area is it doesn't Have a lot is versatility so if you're Looking for versatility in your in your Daily training miles uh the eosl is the

One to go for it's bouncier it's faster It's a bit it feels lighter on the feet Um it's just got more it's got a Superior midsole for when you're doing More versatile training uh but you do Need a bit of stability on it so if You're a beginner Runner and um you know Might need a bit more Stability eosl probably isn't the right Option for you because because um you're Not it is it's not the wobbly shoe Around but if you if you need a bit of Stability you're not going to get it From the Adidas Evo um but for everyone Else it's a far superior shoe in most Ways I find it better on easy runs I Find it far better on faster runs and I Definitely wouldn't racing the ride 18 I' I'd happily racing the eosl so really It comes down to what sort of Runner you Are I think um for the price the eosl is An absolute steal I think I think the Ride 18 is is perfectly I think it's Worth the money for that and I think um It's better value than a lot of other Cushing daily trainers out there um but I think the eosl is an absolute steal if You can get it for £130 in the UK it's Far better than um a lot of shoes that Are priced higher than that um so yeah Definitely a shoe that um if you're Looking to do more versatile training This is a shoe to get because it's been A long time since I've tried a shoe this

Good um when it comes to those sort of Faster training miles um and maybe even Race day um so I think it really comes Down to that for me Adidas OSL all the Way I just think it's Superior for my Style of running I just think I could do A lot more in this shoe I want to pick This shoe up a lot more tend to pick the Ride 18 up just because I'm going out For a run and it's it's a shoe that's Closest to me and it's absolutely fine I Don't think I don't want to wear it um But equally I don't really I'm not Desperate to take this out I really like Taking out the evos it's like a treat to Go running in it so definitely a Superior shoe um so yeah evl for me all The way on all counts apart from maybe Stability um and just a bit of overall Comfort that's it for me on this versus Of the Adidas eosl and the so ride 18 Thanks a lot for watching don't forget To like subscribe and click the little Bell and if you go in the catch below You can find L to our podcast it which Comes out a couple of times each month Thanks a lot for watching catch you next Time [Music]
