Hey people welcome to the Run testers And to our head-to-head with two of Adidas's newest daily trainers we've got The newish Adidas Supernova rise going Up against the Adidas Supernova Prima Which is a more recent launch both shoes Are aiming to plug the Gap in Adidas's Everyday shoe lineup so are they up to The task can they match the rivals what Kind of Runners and runs do these shoes Suit best and of course which one of Them would we recommend watch on to find Out some quick details then when it Comes to the midsole stack the Adidas Supernova preat has 38 Ms in the hill 30 MS in the 4T for an 8 mil drop while the Rise packs 36 Ms in the hill and 26 Ms In the 4T for a car friendlier 10 mil Drop on the scales in a UK men 8 A2 the Prima weighing at 10.1 o or 286 G the Rise coming at 9.7 o or 275 G on price You'll have to pay £150 or $160 for the Prima and $130 or $140 for the r [Music] So let's give you a quick shoe whip Round and comparison starting with the Midols both shoes deploy the new dream Strike plus foam the Primo just adds More of it Adidas says there's 133% more In fact in the midsole with an Additional 2 Ms in the hill and four Ms Extra under the 4 foot targeting the Ball of the foot that's to make for a Soft and more cushion springier ride
Both shoes have what Adidas calls Support rods as a system in there kind Of Riff Off the energy rods that you Find in the ADI Zer ratios but these are Foam rather than carbon the idea with These rods is that they allow the Designer to tune the ride in the shoes In practice the denser foam rods in the Prima are slightly firmer and wider to Enhance the stability up top the rise Has a sandwich mesh upper the Prima also Has a mesh upper thickness and Breathability is about the same on these Shoes as is the heel padding in the heel Collars both have generously padded Heels the rise look marginally narrower The rise tongues have more padding as Well though the Prima has a pad under The lace down point and then kind of Thins out for a bit of a wrapping tongue But it still feels padded once you're Laced in if you flip them over the Supernova Prima has a new light traction Out soole that's designed to keep the Shoe light but grippy the rise has an Addy wear out soole both of these have Groove patterns that follow the kind of Ergonomics of the foot one major Difference here is that the Prima has Less protection in the heel on those Impact zones and I can already see That's starting to show some signs of Early wear and the rise to me looks Better
Protected word on fit I ran my regular Running shoe size in both shoes which is A uk8 and a half now I found the Adidas Shoes tend to come up a bit narrow Particularly in the midfoot and that's Certainly true with the rise to a Certain extent I didn't have trouble With it but midfoot lockdown was good And the rise held my foot nicely in Place with no heel slipping there's just About enough room in the toe box but it Is somewhat narrow and I think if you've Really struggled with narrow shoes you Might want to look at that the Prima Kind of bucks that Adidas Trend a bit More it's notably Ria with more Flex in The toe box again I had good hold good Hold across the midfoot and in the heels And I'd recommend going true to size in Both of these shoes so it comes to fit I've got the same size in both shoes Which is a uk9 a US 9.5 which is the Size I normally have four adid Das shoes And both of them fit me very well in Terms of length in that normal size I'd Say that I slightly prefer the fit of The Supernova rise overall though it's Just a a less fussy upper there's less Going on there's less structure and it Feels a little bit more flexible all Around really I think it's quite a Supportive upper on the Supernova Prima Can run a little bit warm actually more Importantly I found that it can irritate
My achilles tended very slightly with The amount of padding at the back and The kind of stiffness of the heel Counter on the Prima there's still a lot Of cushioning and padding on the Supernova rise but the fit didn't really Bother me at all I found it slightly More accommodating and easy upper to get On with but if you want a slightly more Supportive feel you get it with the Prima but I like the upper more on the Supernova rise but in terms of actual Sizing i' would go for your normal Running shoe size with both shoes so in Terms of fits I've got both of these Shoes in UK size eight that's my typical Running shoe size that's generally the Shoe size that works for me in Adidas's Shoes I haven't really had to play Around with sizing I'd say the Experience across these two shoes in Terms of it has been very similar I Think very consistent I think that's Kind of key knowing you these are both In the kind of that new revamp Supernova Range I think I was pretty happy with The space up front of the toe boxes and Both of these shoes I think midfoot hold I think in terms of lock down at the Hill all been generally fine they're Both very padded or kind of heavily Padded uh kind of daily trainer shoes um You're getting a little bit more padding In the tongue on the Supernova uh rise
But I do think that in general I think Maybe you're getting a little bit more Material on the Supernova Prima around The kind of midfoot and the foref foot Whereas I think that maybe the midfoot Hold on the supern maybe just wraps in a Little bit nicer maybe feels to me a Little bit thinner in comparison to how The Supernova Prima fits but generally I Think the experience has been very Similar I think going through to size Which you know my narrow skinny feet has Been absolutely fine I haven't felt like I need to go half size up or half size Down in either of these shoes and I Think yeah going through size should Work for most People run test then in testing I've Clocked north of 30 mi in the rise and The Prima usual drill here plenty of Easy some hard and faster mainly on road Sometimes on River pods I enjoyed my Miles in both of these shoes and I think That Adidas has definitely stepped up Its daily train again pluging that Gap Behind its race shoes these two shoes Are both very competent very capable Very good shoes I would say now I'd Place the rise at the firm and more Responsive end of things though they're Not too firm I think you could say that They're sort of like a livel ADI Zer SL To me the bber based dream strike plus Mids and the support rods though they
Stiffen quickly I find under the foot to Give quite a lot of immediacy to the Ride now some fans of soft shoes really Soft sort of cushioning shoes might want More cushioning but I like the fact that The rise takes the edge off the road Without too much sink and it's quite Nicely responsive basically you're Getting a compliant responsive platform To run off from this shoe without that Squish of bigger softer cushion Rivals Now that's where the Prima comes in the Supernova Prima is noticeably more Cushioned with that bigger stack of Dream strike plus but I think it still Manages to boost the protection without Feeling too high too soft and I describ The ride here on this shoe as nicely Balanced get decent stability with a Nice wide reliable platform to run off Now I like a shoe that offers cushioning But with a bit of a mediacy in the Return even in my bigger more cushion Shoes and I found the Prima manages that Really well it's not as direct as the Rise but I think it cushions well Without losing connecting to the road And that all important control I also Think you get extra cushioning Without Really adding too much weight between These two shoes that makes the Prima More appealing I think for a wider range Of runs I was really happy to hit my Faster Paces in the Prima but they're
Probably more Adept at the longer slower Miles than the rise I find I got Smoother transitions from the Prima as Well the rise just lands a touch more Flat with a sort of slightly dollar Energy overall I don't think that makes The rise a bad shoe if you like a Slightly firmer ride this shoe is going To offer that and it'll definitely suit You more the Primo is more along the Lines of something I'd say like a saky Ride 17 or a Brooks ghost Max those kind Of shoes that are easy to run easy miles In with a good dose of Versatility to Boot the rise has a little less in its Locker I would say overall probably at The slower end though I still think it's A nice shoe to run in and it's a bit of An antidote really to the big big stack Dailies it's probably better on Stability to than the pre marginally so I've racked up a lot of mils in both of These shoes and for the most part I've Enjoyed running in them i' say for me They both kind of fall in the category Of good but not necessarily great or Outstanding options in the current Market but they both do a pretty good Job I think they've got quite balanced Rides the Foams not really very very Springy or very very soft but is a foam That works well for a variety of runs I'll tell you with the shoes the Similarities outweigh the differences
For sure I did a short run wearing both Shoes at the same time they do have Quite a similar feel Under Foot but you Have got a slightly better ride with the Slightly more expensive Supernova Prima You got a bit more depth to the foam you Get a little bit more rebound a little Bit more Comfort there and yeah it does Roll through a little bit more smoothly For me as well I think the drop is Slightly lower the extension on the heel At the back of the pr I think does give It a slightly smoother ride as well and Although it is a little bit chunkier Than the Supernova rise in terms of Weight I don't really think it makes a Huge difference in terms of the Versatility you have here the feel of The Supernova eyes does feel a bit Lighter and more daily trainer I think It's a bit narrower it feels a bit Nimbler and the upper is less padded and That all adds up to a shoe that might Feel a bit lighter on the foot well is a Bit lighter on the foot but feels a bit Lighter and a bit more suitable for a Range of training but when I did my Testing with both shoes I didn't find They either really excelled at kind of Faster Paces they definitely feel more Squirely in that easy daily training Zone that can pick up the pace a little Bit they are probably do it all shoes if You're someone who likes a cushion dis
Shoe to do everything in but if you're Someone like me who has a running shoe Rotation would have a far shoe in that These certainly wouldn't be that far Shoe they're much more at the easy end Of the training Spectrum I would say Both of them grip very well for me in All conditions Adas nearly always makes Very good out sers and that's the case Of both of them you've got the rubber at The back of the Supernova rise which you Don't have so much on the Supernova Prima well the rubber that covers the For foot doesn't go all the way to the Heel so it seems a bit more exposed That's I've not seen any real wear and Tear on the super NOA Prim as a heel Striker like that back section still Looks as good as it did when it was new And like I say both shoes have great Well for me in the wet plenty of chances To test that here in the UK no concerns There of either shoe so in terms of my Running experience with these two shoes I definitely do think there is some Overlap in terms of the types of runs They work best for in terms of the types Of pacing that I think they most kind of Excel at as well too now these are two Shoes that are kind of daily trainer Style shoes for what kind of Adidas Deemes as everyday Runners and I think What it means by that is know Runners That not necessarily looking for the
Fastest shoe something to race in Something super aggressive and unstable But something that is going to be more Controlled more balanced more Comfortable going to protect over longer Distances as well too that's ultimately What I think these shoes really aim to Kind of deliver now in terms of Delivering on those things I think we'll Start with the Supernova rise which is The lighter of the two shoes that has Been for me in the UK size eight just a Little bit lighter than the Prima um now The upper fields on the fits very Similar for me to the one on the Primos I think from a you know if you're Looking for an upper that's very Comfortable very well padded is going to Be supportive I think that's ultimately The key characteristics you're getting From the Supernova rid but I think it's Very similar on the premier as well too Then you get it down into that mid soole You're getting that dream strike plus um Foam in there you're getting the support Rods to kind of rain thing in you know a Little bit in terms of the level of Bounce you're getting now it's not super Aggressively bouncy kind of midso There's enough there but again I do Think it's kind of rained in a little Bit not as plush as some of midsole Foams as well too and on the Supernova Rise the balance or the distribution of
That foam is a little bit different it's It's a little bit more weighted to the Heel of this shoe which what I found is When you run a little bit longer in it You definitely miss the kind of extra Foam in the forefoot which you do get Here in the Supernova Prima obviously That you know in general this is a Slightly heavier shoe but I don't think The weight difference has been a massive Deal for me in both these shes I do Think this is a little bit lighter but Ultimately it's not massively changed Experience for me what has though has Having that better distribution of the Dream strike plus um foam here there's More at the for foot and I think when You run longer in it you appreciate that But it just creates a more balanced ride In terms of you're getting there in that Cushioning and in terms of what you're Getting you still got those support rods There they're a little bit bigger I Think to support that extra foam there To make sure that you're getting Something that's stable there as well Too and isn't over aggressive in terms Of that ride but there's enough Enjoyment there as well too when I've Wanted to pick up to a moderate Pace I Don't think really for uptempo Pace Either these shoes really works for me I Think maybe slightly more in the Supernova R despite having a little bit
Less Fame in the for foot but I think in Terms of shorter runs maybe it feels a Little bit more py for me was I think With the Supernova Prima I think over Longer runs and more of my runs it's Felt a more enjoyable shoe to run in Just because I think the balance of the Mid sole just works a little bit better For me too so I think from that point of View I think that's what you're getting When you look at the outs the makeup of The outs are similar in terms of this Approach of kind of covering certain Areas with that kind of extra rubber There a lot more exposed kind of uh Areas in the hill on the Prima there is Some of that as well here on the Supernova rise as well too it's a little Bit more focused in terms of the middle Of the shoe in terms of that protection Um I'm seeing a little bit more wear on The uh Supernova premium but I don't Think it's a huge amount in it and I do Think these are shoes that you can use For a lot of you know to soak up a lot Of your mileage but I do think you know If you're a hill Striker my only concern Would be and these shoes would be you Know you might see a little bit wear a Bit further back in these shoes but from A gripping traction point of view very Similar I've been running in kind of dry Conditions mainly and it's been Absolutely fine I don't think it's the
Best outsole and maybe not the best out Sools you're going to get on Adu but I Think in terms of the types of runs They're designed for I think they're Going to be generally absolutely fine so Yeah my experience is generally as I Said I think these are two shoes that Are good cushion daily trainer shoes two Shoes that work for me best at easy to Moderate Paces maybe slight any more up Temper and the super over eyes I don't Think there's a massive amount in it but I think when you're going a little bit Longer I think I appreciate these Supernova Premo a little bit more in Terms of that level of foam and just the Better balance and distribution of that Foam in the shoe which I think just Creates still a very you know smooth Stable ride but also just feels a little Bit more comfortable over those longer Distances based on my Testing so my take on whether you should Go for the Supernova r or the Supernova Premium obviously there is a difference In price this is slightly cheaper and I Think if you are looking for a shoe Mainly for kind of your shorter runs Maybe up to kind of maybe 10K um those Are your kind of your daily distances Your speeds easy to moderate past runs And I think this is a shoe that can do a Good job of it Ultimately though I think you can get
That in this shoe as well too but I do Think if you want to go longer in this Shoe I think the build of the mid so Just makes it a nicer shoe in general For the similar types of runs you can do In this shoe but when it comes to going Longer it just feels more kind of you Know better suited for those kind of Longer runs and I would personally pay a Little bit more for the Supernova Prem If you're looking for a cushion daily Trainer shoe for the same types of runs That these shoes work for I think this Kind of offers a bit more of a kind of Slicker EXP experience and just gives You that extra level of protection and All the traits that we've seen in Supernova rise that makes it a solid Daily trainer but just takes it up a Slight Notch for a little bit more money So for me yeah I would be going for the Supernova premum if you're looking at These two shoes I think if you are Looking for a shorter and longer kind of Style running shoe then that is a shoe To go for if you're mainly sticking to Kind of 5K 10K runs at very kind of easy Kind of modate Paces this shoe will work Well and you can get this for a little Bit less money 30 then Adas has been Missing capable cushion daily trainers In its lineup for a while now the Supernova Prima and Rise definitely plug That Gap I think on balance I prefer the
Overall comfort and ride of the Supernova Prima in some instances you End up sacrificing versatility for extra Cushioning but when you're comparing These two shoes specifically I don't Think the primma loses anything for the Extra weight you get for the extra stack I think it actually gains the choice Here though really boils down to whether Or not you prefer a softer ride that Offers more Long Haul protection in Which case it's probably worth paying The extra for the SU Supernova Prima if You like things firmer more connected Maybe a little bit more responsive the Rise offers more of that kind of ride But overall I think the Prima can handle All the runs that the rise coats with But with that extra Comfort on easy days It's probably worth paying for so even Though the Prima is20 or $20 more I'd Say it's the better shoe for a wider Range of runs and that would be my Recommendation out of these two shoes I Would go for the Adidas Supernova Prima So as I mentioned I'd say that these Shoes are certainly more similar than They are different as they looking at Them in the Adidas lineup they very much Remind me of the Brooks ghost and Glycerin in the Brooks lineup these days Where you've got the same foam in both Glycerin and the ghost a little bit more Foam and the glycerin a slightly more
Premium feel and it costs a little bit More that's very much what I get from The rise and the Prem merther have Similar rides they use similar foam You've got a slightly higher stack in The Prima it's a slightly more built-up Shoe and the ride is a little bit better I would say than the Supernova rise However for me I would still pick the Supernova rise just because the Differences in Upper field probably Outweigh any differences in the ride Feel I like the more relaxed upper on The Supernova rides it's more Comfortable for me doesn't irritate my Achilles and it's a little bit cheaper So I slightly prefer this shoe and if I Had no problems with the upper I'd say Probably worth splashing out that little Backra on what I think is probably going To be a better shoe for most people to Bang out their daily training in supern Rise does have that lighter design and a More lightweight Nimble feel all around But it doesn't really add up into a much More versatile shoe I'd say so I think For the actual runs you be doing in These shoes the kind of comfortable Cruising around the super no Prima is The slightly better shoe in terms of Ride feel but for me like I said the Upper makes a difference so I'd get the Supernova rise so there you have it that Was our head-to-head between the Adidas
Supernova Prima and the Supernova rise I Hope you found it useful hit like maybe Share the video if you did if you're not Already we'd love it if you would Subscribe to the channel as well that'd Be super if you're after more detailed Reviews of both of these shoes I'm going To whack the full review videos up on The screen now otherwise thanks for Stopping by and we hope to see you again Soon on the Run testers in the meantime Happy running people
