The Adidas Adios Pro 3 and Adidas Takumi Sen 10 are both racing shoes that use similar materials, with Lightstrike Pro foam midsoles and Adidas’s EnergyRods in the midsole to provide extra punch on the run. They are designed for different events though, with the Takumi Sen aimed at 5K and 10Ks and the Adios Pro 3 longer races like the marathon. Tom and Nick have done a lot of training and racing in both shoes, and compare how they feel in this video.

Hello and welcome to run testers my Name's Nick in this video we're going to Be comparing the Adidas Tumi sen 10 and The Adidas adios Pro [Music] 3 so the Tumi sen and the adios Pro 3 Are two of the racing shoes available Within ad's Adi Zero lineup they're Probably the two most commonly used Shoes there is obviously the pro Evo 1 Which is the very expensive very hard to Get a hold of top Super Shoe that ads Produces and there's also the prime X2 Strung although it's a bit heavier and Very high stack we view that probably More as a super trainer than an actual Racing shoe so you've got the bigger Heavier adios Pro 3 as the main Longdistance racing shoe and then Tumi Sen1 as a lower stack racing shoe geared More toward sh distances the tum is the Cheaper shoe it is £170 or $180 whereas The adios Pro 3 is £220 or $250 although As an older shoe it is often available In sales Tumi is much lighter it's 206 Gr or 7.3 ounces in a uk9 this is a UK 9.5 I had in the adios Pro 3 but it Weighs in at 247 grams or 8.7 ounces the Tumi has a 6 mimet drop and a stack Heite of 33 mm at the heel 27 at the 4T Whereas the adios has a 6.5 mm drop with A stack height of 39.5 mm at the heel 33 At the 4 foot looking at the design of The Tumi sen 10 you've got a midsole
Made of Adidas's Light Strike Pro foam Which has the energy rods 2.0 system Running through it with the Tumi sent The enery rods made from glass fiber and They run the full length of the shoe got Lightweight mesh upper with very minimal Kind of padding and overlays it's a real Strip back racing upper no support of The heel or anything like that then You've got an outside that uses Continental rubber mainly on this front Section here to make sure you got good Grip for your toe off few cutouts there As well that show off the energy rods in The midsole adio Pro 3 you've also got a Light Strike Pro midsole you just got a Lot more of it and you've got an NG Rod System where there are rods under the Forefoot that connect to a small carbon Plate at the back of the shoe got a Similar lightweight mesh upper to cumi Sen very minimal padding and stuff like That really lightweight stuff quite a Scratchy material in general the upper On the adios Pro 3 and again no r Support at the heel in terms of a heel Counter then you've got quite extensive Outsole coverage the content rubber I Think is just restricted to this section At the front of the shoe with a lighter Weight material used in the main section But grip has been very good durability Is also pretty good and once again You've got midell cutouts on the shoe to
Try and reduce [Music] Weight so the fit for me in both of These shoes they are both added as shoes They're both quite similar in how They're designed but what I would say is That uh the Tumi sen um amiz in UK these Are both size Eights the Tumi sen I found to be Absolutely fine in my UK size eight um No issues at all uh it's a shorter Distance shoe so I don't know if it's That would be a problem in a longer Distance effort uh but it's absolutely Fine for me up to about 10 12K which is What I've used this shoe for um and I Definitely say to my size in this shoe It's quite comfortable but it's a very Light weight small thin shoe so it's Really designed for racing um it's not The r shoe out there but I would I would Stick to my size in this shoe the adios Pro 3 um it's actually designed more for Longer distance things and what I found With this shoe is that when I'm doing Longer distance sessions in it uh my Toes rub on the end and I uh it can be Quite painful this is a size eight so It's my size but I would definitely have Gone up half a size in the adios Pro 3 Especially if you're doing longer Distance sessions in because I did find A lot of rubbing in the toe area comes To the fit both of these shoes I think
Have quite fiddly uppers that you got to Really work with to try get the right Kind of fit the aumi senten I have in my Normal running shoe size which is a uk9 US 9.5 has a pretty dialed in narrow fit As you'd expect from a racing shoe like This that suits me well I have a very Narrow foot and I found I had no real Problems with fit with the Tumi sand It's not the most comfortable shoe but It's a racing shoe and the upper holds The foot nice and tightly with the adios Pro 3 I have gone up half a size and I Think that ended up being the right Choice because very tapered in the front Of the shoe there and I think my toes Are a bit cramped could be some rubbing If I was in my normal running shoe size And going half size up it certainly Doesn't feel too big or anything like That so I was quite happy in half a size Up it's got a good hold around the heel In midfoot actually doesn't rub my heel As much as some other Adidas shoes does But it is in general quite annoying uper These isets have caused problems for Lots of people I know but overall I was Pretty happy half size up in the Pro 3 And then in my normal size in the Tumi [Music] 10 coming to the run test obviously the First of these shoes I tested was the Adios Pro 3 it is a shoe that's been Around for a while now and it's kind of
Testament to its quality that Adidas Hasn't felt the need to update its Carbon plate race so it's still a Competitive shoe at the sharp end of Things wasn't I loved out of the box I Found it was a bit stiff and I didn't Really feel like I was getting much from The foam in the first run or two but Actually it does soften and break in Quite a lot and you do start to get that Nice bouncy feeling in combination with The rods a shoe I've gone back to a Couple of times since our initial review For kind of long marathon training Sessions I've also done a 10k race on Mixed Terrain in it as well and I do Think it's a very good shoe all around It's probably not personally one of my Favorite carbon Racing shoes but that's Not really any reflection on its quality I just feel like I enjoy others a bit More I think this is very fast and it's Good as most shoes out there there's a Real nice depth to the foam with the Adios Pro really feels like you are Sinking into a nice responsive chunk of That Light Strike Pro and then you get a Good amount of rebound back you're not Sinking in and staying there you're Getting a lot of oomph from the rods in The shoe as well as the Light Strike Pro Foam it's quite a big shoe it feels Quite cruisy and I've always preferred It for longer hard training runs or if
You're looking at longer races but it is Fast enough for the short stuff you can Go do fast reps you can go and do short Races in the shoe but for me I've always Preferred it more at that kind of Half Marathon distance or long sessions where You're doing of long progression runs or Long reps of more like 2 miles rather Than you know really going down to the Short stuff where I prefer a slightly Nimble shoe a lighter shoe shoe perhaps Like the Adas Tumi sen 10 which is very Nimble is very lightweight you've got That lower stack it's still not a low Stack shoe by you know five years ago Standards but by today's standards it is Certainly lower stack than the big Carbon shoes out there there's still Enough there though that you get a bit Of that punch from the foam and Obviously that combines with the rods For a veryy nippy fast feeling ride so I Used the aument 8 a lot and raced at 5K 10K and Half Marathon distance in it and Theum 10 I've had in this year and I've Used for a few hard training sessions a Tough progression 10K I've taken it down The track and I've also running five Mile race in the shoe as well I actually Set my 5 Mile PB of just over 26 minutes I think and you know it is a really good Shoe for fast runs and even quite long Fast runs like I know it's pitched as a Short distance racer but I've taken the
Tumi to Half Marathon distance in the Past and I've done longer than that in Training and it does have enough foam There to be supportive and comfortable It's just you're not really getting the Same level of bounce that you get from The bigger shoes something like the Adios Pro 3 so the Kumi is nimbler you Turn your feet over it very nicely I a High Cadence Runner and I really value How light this is but even when running That 5 mile race which had a really good Race just felt that maybe it doesn't Feel quite the as explosive as some of The big issues on the market something Like the adios Pro 3 when you're hitting Those straight lines if you start Turning around corners or you're in Slightly mixed terrain or you're having To dodge people and other obstacles on The road on your training outside on the Streets near you like I have done in This shoe and it's really really good For that but doesn't quite have the Level of propulsion you get from a Bigger shoe the trade-off being that you Get a much lighter shoe I thought that Very clearly in one run where I did 10 * 400 meter reps in the shoe on the track After doing 10 times 1 K reps and for The K reps I was using the Puma fast R Which is a heavier shoe much Nimble but Really does feel very fast and bouncy When you're running those longer reps
And you're on a Surface like a track Where obviously everything is perfect Like the Tumi felt great for those 400s But it doesn't have that level of Explosive bounce that the fast R2 has or The adios Pro 3 has did a short run Wearing both shoes at the same time and That's really the feeling you get here The extra depth and oomph you get from The adios Pro 3 is very telling a nice Nippy turnover with the Tumi sen 10 and It does feel lighter and a bit firmer And pushes you onto those rods in the For foot very quickly and it you know Feels good to run in but just that extra Bounce is very much there with the AOS Pro 3 and the weight while heavier Doesn't feel like it's really holding You back and when you're actually Running the shoes at the same time it Feels very easy to run fast in the adios Pro 3 so the design of these two shoes Is pretty similar but they're made for Pretty different purposes so the uh Tumi Sen 10 is made for shorter distance Efforts up to like 10K um and the adios Pro 3 is designed for to handle longer Efforts for marathons things like that But um in testing the Tumi sen 10 I was Quite surprised because I've never used A Tumi sen before and I'm not really uh As a runner that likes lower stack shoes I like a lot of cushioning in regardless Of whether I'm doing a 5k or a marathon
So I was a little bit skeptical as to Whether I'd actually like the Tumi s 10 I've used it for a couple of races now And it's that midsole is despite the low Stack of it it's surprisingly bouncy Surprisingly cushioned and it's got Quite a bit of energy return in it um Which makes it for a fantastic 10K shoe Because you still get all the things That you want from uh carbon race shoe Uh but you it's a lot lighter and it's Just very very Nimble so I really Enjoyed racing in this year I found I Could get my PB times or as close to my PB times uh as I could at the time uh And the shoe felt absolutely great for That the adios Pro 3 is um it has a lot More cushioning in it um but this Light Strike Pro Midol foam it's not as soft And bouncy as you get in things like the Zoomx it's a little bit more solid um You still get a bit of energy return From it it's still a very efficient way To run the the way the mid so um feels But it's not as bouncy as some of the Foams out there on the market you get in Carbon uh plate shoes so the actual feel Of these shoes is pretty similar um it's Not like you get loads and loads more Injury turn and bounce from the adios PR 3 all you're getting is a bit more Cushioning and a a little bit more uh Protection when you're doing those Longer distance efforts but the ride for
Me feels pretty similar it's just a lot Lighter and nimbler in the tumbi 10 so Over shorter distances it's the not it's Really not how difference these these Shoes are uh I can definitely run a lot Faster or feel like I run a lot faster In the Tumi s 10 um than I can in the Adios Pro 3 I wouldn't go over 10K Distance in the Tumi S1 it's not got the Cushing for me or the Bounce That I Want From longer distance runs um the OS Pro 3 doesn't really have as much cushioning As I like or as much softness in that Midsole as I like in my um raoes so I Normally go for things like the alphafly Or the adios Pro 3 which are noticeably Softer and bouncier than the adios Pro 3 Um but uh it's it is a very good shoe For longer distance efforts you can roll Through very nicely it's a very Comfortable shoe to wear um it's just Not at the top of my list when it comes To carbon plate Ray shoes so yeah They're very similar in a lot of ways But they're obviously used they're Designed for different purposes but uh I Am pleasantly surprised with how um the Tumi sen 10 rides and uh just how much Energy return is in that uh slightly Thinner midell phone So my verdict on these two shoes they're Designed for different uh sorts of races The adios Pro 3 is designed for longer Distance Tuma S1 is designed for shorter
Distance races pretty simple but what I Would say is that uh the difference is Not massive uh in the ride um especially Around that sort of 10K effort I Definitely um if I was just going for Short distance efforts I I would go for The T 10 I don't think the alios Pro 3 Is a particularly good shoe when it Comes to 5K and 10K it just doesn't seem To offer loads back for that it only Really kicks in when you get to half Marathon and Marathon distance but for Those it's a very solid shoe um and uh I Have had some good races in this shoe Over half half marathon and above Distance 10 I'd say is an by far a clear Winner when it comes to those 5K 10K Efforts I'd much rather use this Sho for Those than the the adios Pro 3 it's fast It's Nimble it just feels light but it Still has a good level of energy return Um and cushioning from that midell phone Which I was pretty surprised about so it Really comes down to what you want to Use the shoe for if you are going to do A marathon you're pretty much going to Have to get the adios Pro 3 if you're a Runner like me and you like cushioning Um because I would never use the tum 10 For that if your Runner is doing 5Ks and 10ks um I would buy the uh tum 10 Because it's got all the benefits for Those distances that you get from the OS Pro 3 but better um and still feels like
You can you've got a lot of cushioning And it's very comfortable so uh really Comes down to what shoe you'd want but For me if it's 5 to 10K distance I'm Definitely going game for the Adidas Tumi 10 so looking at the verdict if I To sum these up through the medium of Mario Kart characters you've got the Tumi 10 the lightweight acceleration Based character it's your toad your Yoshi your baby Marios and then you've Got your adios Pro 3 it's the big heavy Hitter you get it up to a straight line It accelerates a little bit more slowly But once you are up to speed and Maintaining speed it feels very fast Indeed your Donkey Kongs your warios Bowser and that's really how I see the Issues and overall I think it means the Adios Pro 3 is a more effective racing Shoe in general and the one you'd buy Because if you are just looking at very Short races all the time you want a Short distance training shoe as well and You are often racing on not exactly Perfect courses so for example that 10K Is I ran in the adios Pro 3 was on mixed Terrain a few slippy bits random T Corners stuff like that the Kum is Really good for that because it is a Very easy shoe to accelerate and get Back up to racing speed and turn your Legs over in but if you are looking at Big races and good courses you're going
For PBS and certainly races of Half Marathon distance and above the extra Bounce and repulsion from the ADF Pro 3 I think more than makes up for the extra Weight you have here and overall I think That just makes it a slight more Versatile all round fast shoe it's also A very durable shoe for a super shoe so You can use it for lots of training it's Probably the shoe I'd get from these two If you're just looking for one shoe to Do loads of different races in lots of Fast training in the Pro three does it a Little bit better you have a massive Rotation Tumi s 10 is such a fun shoe to Have available for certain sessions I Really like using it but it's a hard Issue to justify buying I think because The adios Pro 3 is a full-fledged carbon Racer and Tumi s 10 just lacks a little Bit of that punch for the longer events Or for really any event where you've got A nice clear course to go and run hard On the other Advantage is the adios Pro 3 is it is a slightly old shoe it has Been available at some really ridiculous Prices at points I think at some point This year or maybe next year ads will Release the adios Pro 4 and then you can Even get a better deal on this the Kumi 101 is cheaper on RP which is a point in Its favor but also and it's also a sh That gets reduced a lot but you can get Good deals on both these shoes and the
High price of the adios Pro 3 I don't Think really counts against it because It is so often in sales as an older shoe So and then if you compare them to the Market at large like I say the adios Pro 3 has never been one of my favorite Carbon races it stands up very well Against them but I would personally Prefer things like the the aex metas Speed Sky Paris or the Nike shoes in General I've tended to refer to the Adidas whereas the is a little bit out On its own I think of these low stack Races I think is the best available I Just I don't think as a category these Lower stack Racers really do enough to Really stand out from the best carbon Shoes and I just don't think they're Entirely necessary because even over the Shorter distances you're going to get so Much from a shoe like the adios Pro 3 so Unless you're only doing those distances And really value that Nimble lightweight Feel you get with the Tumi overall the Adios Pro 3 will be the F you to get When you're picking between these two As a comparison of the Adas Pro 3 and The kumen 10 let us know what you think In the comments below are you excited For a new Adidas racer this year if There is to be one please do like and Subscribe ring the little bell and we'll See you next time
