Scratched leather, scuffed paint and yellowing… This sounds like a straight forward and simple Jordan 6 restoration, but matching that iridescent paint can be challenging. In today’s episode of Customs and Restorations with Vick he will walk you through every step you need to restore even the most beat pair of Jordan’s.
As always you have to start with a clean slate. To get this sneaker clean we relied on the RESHOEVN8R Signature Cleaning Kit. We don’t always put leather sneakers in the wash, but when it comes to used sneakers it is a must! We picked these up for $50 on eBay and we have no idea who had their foot in these sneakers before we got them.
Vick cleaned the entire sneaker using the pretreatment method with all 3 brushes and the natural solution before throwing them in the wash for a true disinfecting. Once these were washed it was time to move over to the harder steps!
We start with the prep work of course! Also known as the most important part of any restoration. We had to sand the sneaker and prep it to repair those tough scratches and for a solid paint job. After the sneaker was sanded and ready we went ahead and started to fill in the scratches. Now you can follow these steps for any leather repair on your sneakers.
With the leather filler applied it was time for more sanding! The reason for this is to ensure that we have a smooth surface to repaint. Without this step our paint job would look completely botched. After all that it was time for the challenging part…Color matching that color shifting paint job.
To match this we had to mix up a couple different methods since the first mix was way too dark! Once the color was mixed up all that was left to do was apply it and hope for the best. The main key is that powder mixture to make any paint job iridescent.
Well we made it through the challenging part and the uppers are good to go. All that is left to do is take care of the yellowing on the outsole. Oxidation is going to happen on sneakers whether you wear them or not, so PSA just wear your kicks. To remove this we had to start by placing this in the Vick 2000 and let the UV rays work their magic.

What's up YouTube for today's project we Got these 2016 chameleon Jordan 6es that I got off eBay for a super steal I only Paid 60 bucks but they are destroyed This is actually a beautiful shoe when It's not beat up the chameleon color Shifting paint on the uppers is a Beautiful touch and same thing with the Rubber outsoles however as is they do Need a lot of work on the uppers there's Some deep scratches that we got to fix And the rubber outs have a lot of Yellowing that we got to get rid of the Hardest part about this restoration is To match a color shifting paint we'll See how it goes if you're not already Subscribe to our Channel I drop weekly Content on Mondays doing Restorations And Customs let's get started with this Cleaning to get this process started We're going to put the left shoe to the Side and focus on the right shoe for Before and after purposes during this Cleaning I am going to be wearing a Glove just because I got this nasty cut On this finger and I don't want it Infected we are going to be using our Sign shoe cleaning kit to give the shoe A proper de clean and set it out let's Start by taking out the lace and insole Lace and insole is out I am going to be Throwing away the insole it's not Original no need to clean this next Let's put the Sho tree inside to help
Remove the creasing from the toe box and Reshape it we're going to go to mini Rolls and use our air compressor to blow Off all the surface dust and debris from The inside of the shoe just by doing That step it's going to make it look so Much better plus during the cleaning Process we don't want to push the Surface dust deeper into the materials We'll be right [Music] Back preper is complete we got rid of All that surface dust on the inside of The shoe there was a ton of debris that That we fully got out now overall this Is going to be an easy clean there isn't Any light colored materials it's all Dark for the most part you can't really See the grime or stains after we give it A good scrub using all three brushes and Put in the washing machine these shoes Are going to look really good let's Start off by squirting some squirts of Our solution inside our bowl of water All we need is Two first brush we're going to be using Is a stop bristle brush to break down The grime and dirt on the uppers and Insides as well as the Tongues [Music] [Music] Good to go with the sof bristle brush it Did a great job cleaning the uppers and
The insides for the most part the shoe Is cleaned up but I'm going to go in With the medium bristle brush just to Make sure there's no stains on the Uppers while we're at it we're going to Take care of the mtil the rubber areas On the uppers as Well [Music] Good to go with the medium bristle brush To finish up the cleaning we're going to Be using a s bristle brush to clean up These rubber outsoles we need to get Them as clean as possible before we put Them in the Endor setup to remove the Yellowing [Music] Pre-treatment is fully complete soles Look good mid soos uppers and insides to Complete the cleaning we're going to put Them in the washing machine I want to Get this shoe clean as possible fully Disinfected the washing machine will do That so let's go ahead and put it inside The laundry bag with the detergent pods For the lace it's black so I'm just Going to put it inside the shoe the Washing machine will take care of that For me as Well To the Lavadora this is my best [Music] Girl all right this part's easy for the
Washing machine you just need cold water With a regular cycle with a detergent Pod all right guys we let the shoe out Of the washing machine it's fully dried Ready to go for the drying process all I Did was put them outside underneath the Sun this was an easy clean the main goal For this cleaning was to get it fully Disinfected and all that Grime and dirt Fully washed out from the inside and the Outside of the shoe thanks to our Signature shoe cleaning kit and the Washing machine now let's keep it moving And move on to the restoration process We do need to remove the yelling from The sols but we'll get to that in just a Bit first we're going to take care of All the prep workk on the uppers there's A lot of deep scratches all around Before we can even start taping or Painting we got to get the leather as Smooth as possible so we're going to be Using sandpaper I'll start off with 400 Grit move on to 800 grit and then finish Off with 1,000 grit some of those Surface scratches is going to be easy to Blend in with some sandpaper however There's this deep scratch across the Entire shoe for this part we're going to Have to use some leather filler but First let's get the shoe as soon as [Music] Possible all done with the sanding this Part took about an hour to get it nice
And smooth before we can lay down some Leather fillers to fill in this deep Scratch we're going to be using some Acetone and cotton balls to finish Wiping off the factory finish all around The [Music] Leather acetone is complete we hit up The entire upper and the minil Everything's ready for repaint but we Still need to lay down some angelous Leather filler we got to fill in a few Scratches we got 1 2 3 4 5 6 and 7 to Lay it down we'll use a spatula we'll Lay down a nice thin even coat let it Dry for several hours then we'll do some More sanding with some 1,00 grit Sandpaper to get it flush with the rest Of the [Music] Leather Leather filler's been applied I let it Sit next to a fan for a couple hours now It's time to do some more sanding right Now it's a little rough in certain areas We want to get it as smooth as possible With some 800 git sandpaper and we'll Finish it off with some 1,000 Git when it comes to the leather filler I always let it dry for several hours Before I start sanding it's got to Adhere properly onto the leather after That I use 1,000 gr sandpaper or 1200 Grit sandpaper to get it flush and
Smooth with the rest of the leather I do It in a circular moment or back and Forth and let the Sandpaper do all the [Music] Work prepers complete we did a bunch of Sanding use some acetone to wipe down The leather use some leather filler and Did some more sanding this is good as The leather is going to get this next Step is timeconsuming I got to tape off Everything but the leather let's do that Real quick all taped up now we're on to Recreating the color shifting paint this Part's a little bit tricky but it's not That hard all we need is two different Products some chakar black paint that's Ready for the airbrush and some Chameleon pigment from solar color dust When looking at the shoe there's a few Different colors to it and in one angle There's some purple a different angle There's blue and there is some silver to It as well luckily solar color dust has The exact pigment that I need this has Blue lilac and silver all we're going to Do is make some black paint in this jar A little bit of this pigment inside will Mix it up real well and then spray a Nice even coat on the Shoe [Music] Quick Change of plant the black was way Too dark so I switched it to the navy Blue to get more of that blue tone I
Mixed it up real well now let's apply it Through the Airbrush [Music] We got all the colors there blue purple Silver looks great now we got to go Outside and protect this paint job and Match the original finish with some craw Out matte Finish uppers are fully complete paint Is down matte finish is applied now Let's take out the tape so we can move On to the Midsoles looks beautiful so far now for The midsole there's two different blacks We got glossy and matte we'll start off By using Angela's flat black paint and a Small angular brush I already prepped The entire mle all we really got to do Is touch it [Music] [Music] Up matte black is laid down I went ahead And take off everything so we could go Outside and spray our matte finish to Protect it and get that consistent the Matte black when we come back we'll move On to the [Music] Glossy back is all touched up we still Have to recreate the high gloss finish On certain areas of the mental for this We'll be using Angela highight gloss With a small detail
[Music] Brush Repaint process is complete uppers and Mentals are taken care of now for this Next part it's super easy we got to get Rid of the yellowing from the sols I'm Pretty sure this is surface yellowing so It's going to be really easy to remove We're not going to be using any Sor Viive we're simply going to put it Inside the V 2000 and let the UV race do All the work let's put them inside Now all right we we got to let these sit In there for a good 2 days while we wait Let's start on the next project these Just came in from eBay 2014 Oreo 4S we Got to figure out how to replace these Back tabs I'm still looking for Restorations on projects that I never Worked on before if you think you have Something cool send us an email if I Like what I see I'll do it for free Let's get to work after exactly 2 days We got the shoot outside the Vic 2000 The sols look way better now all that Surface yellowing came out nicely that Iridescent color shifting inside the Rubber pops a lot more and it's a lot More vibrant all that's left to do is s Face him [Music] Up all right guys that's going to bring Us to an end on restoring these trash Chameleon Jordan 6es that we got from
