Hello and welcome to run testers and Welcome to our Roundup of the best Marathon running shoes for 2025 my Name's Nick in this video we're going to Take you through a series of different Categories of marathon Racing shoes like Ranging from just allout Racers like Carbon plated shoes very expensive very Fast but not necessarily shoes that work For everyone through value shoes best Marathon shoes for beginners we also got The best shoes for training and racing The best shoes with without a plate and Then the best Marathon shoes for those Who just want a comfortable ride want to Get through the 42.2 km with as much Comfort as possible so the runs have got Their heads together to pick winners in Each category I think we've pretty much Got a single winner in each category Except one and then we'll also go Through a few other options that we Think are really good options as well Based on maybe different kinds of Runners or exactly what you might be Looking for we're doing this based on The shoes that we have tested right now So obviously there's always new shoes Coming out there's some that we've just Started testing that we might give a Quick mention to but you're never going To find a time when there are no shoes Coming out so we're doing this now ahead Of the spring Marathon season with

Training really kicking into gear now Marathon's coming up fast my own Marathon's only 3 weeks away so we want To give you the best ideas for shoes Right now just bear in mind there'll be New shoes coming out this year that will Also be excellent options no doubt so Like I say we've got six categories to Get through so we'll dive into it now Hopefully whatever kind of marathon you Are there will be some useful Information there and obviously dive Into the comments as well if you are a Marathoner who has their favorite shoes And give us your ideas that other people Can see as [Music] Well so our first category is the best Carbon plate running shoes for the Marathon these are the best racing shoes In the world these are what we use when We go out and try and set PBS and in General they are the best option for That purpose but they certainly have Some drawbacks they are not that durable They're not that stable they're very Expensive so they won't necessarily work For every Runner and there will be other Options later in the video for those who Want to run fast without splashing out On a shoe like this but these are the Shoes that we will go to if we want to Set a PB and they're the ones we Recommend for doing just that in the

Marathon our top piic in this category Is the shoe that two of us have got on Marathon PB in it's the aex metas speed Sky Paris I ran my mpb in the aexs last Year and Kieran ran his as well it's Just a fantastic modern racing shoe that Really exemplifies everything you get From these you know modern carbon shoes Where you've got that full length plate You've got a high stack of a bouncy Responsive foam with the FF turbo plus You know it's 40 mm at the heel but Despite that large amount of foam you Have there the shoe comes in under 200 Gram in my size which is a UK men's 9 so A really lightweight package that Delivers you know a whole lot of speed Like I've used it over every distance I've used one set for well over 250k I Think and they're still holding up Pretty well in terms of performance and Like I say for us this shoe kind of Exemplifies what you can get from carbon Shoes these days which is a lot of Protection in terms of the amount of Cushioning Under Foot a lot of Bounce And response with the carbon plate Helping that in a very lightweight Package so that's our top pick the asex Metas speed Sky Paris Edge Paris is also A very good shoe it's the other carbon Plate racing shoe from aex but we tend To prefer the sky Paris all of us do so That's the one we're going to recommend

Now there are some obviously some other Really good carbon plate racing shoes One of them is the Hocus yellow X1 which Has been a huge favorite here on the Channel even though it's not the Lightest shoe in the world but but what You get from the Hocus yellow X1 is a Really bouncy ride that's also quite Stable and just a lot of fun and it's Been really durable like I've got 350k On my pair and they're still really good They're Areo I use a lot in training They're a little too heavy for my taste To go and racing but actually that Weight is very much counteracted by the Amount of Bounce you get here so we do Think this yellow X Y is a fantastic Option for the marathon maybe a little Bit more democratic than the aex in Terms of being a bit more cushioned and Comfortable might work for a wider range Of Runners really fast really fun Expensive but the hoca cell X1 2.0 is Just coming out so the X1 might be in Deals and the 2.0 looks like quite a Different shoe like a much more Aggressive shoe less stable might be More to my taste but actually this Yellow X1 might suit lots of other Runners as well so that's one to check Out we're also huge fans of the Puma DV8 Nitro Elite 3 which is the best value Carbon plate racing shoe especially here In the UK where it's under 200 lb you

Got a big stack of foam in that it's Very lightweight it's nice and Responsive Snappy ride but comfortable Over any distance the shoe I've used a Lot lately because it's got amazing grip As well so if your marathon is lik to be On wet roads or even icy roads it's the Carbon shoe I'd go for and while it's Not necessarily quite as springy or Something like yellow or as maybe Responsive as something like the ax is Really a top class racing shoe that's on The level of those shoes in terms of Pure Performance I'd say and it might Just suit your personal taste a little Better we've also picked out the Adidas Adios Pro 4 only kieran's tested this From us so far so I can't talk about too Much but from what he says it sounds Fantastic soft bouncy softer than Previous models of the shoe really good For long distances just check out the Fit a little bit cuz I know Kieran had a Little bit of trouble with it around his Toenails but certainly a very far shoe And finally we couldn't leave this Category without talking about the Nike Alphafly and Nike in general Nike Alphafly 3 is the shoe that the both the Men's and women's world Marathon records Have been set in that might be our date By the time you see this video to be Fair they're going they're dropping like Flies these records but it's a fantastic

Shoe I think it's the best Alpha fly yet Tom disagrees but I think it's the best Alply yet really fast transition from Heel To Toe still really bouncy and soft At the heel you get that really Characteristic spring of Nike zoomx foam With that full length plate Over The Air Zoom pods on the foref foot that just Give you a little bit more pop than you Get from the Nike V for fly so that's Another fantastic race option obviously You can see the results from the elites That's one to consider as well but as I Mentioned our top overall pick here is The ax metas speed Sky [Music] Paris so whether you're a new Runner or A beginner Runner tackling your first Marathon we definitely do think there's A few things to look out for in a Running shoe that's going to be a good Fit for that Marathon distance the first Thing for us would be value now you Don't have to spend hundreds of pounds On a new running machine has plenty of Good value options as we'll talk about Here versatility is another thing you're Going to want something you know idea That you can use for the race and but Also that training time as well and give You the scope to run a mixture of Paces During that training period as well Another thing is prioritizing comfort And protection and being very stable as

Well you know particularly when you are Running or training and doing your Longer runs when you are you know during That Marathon as well and you maybe your Legs start to tie and it's getting a bit Tougher you want something that's going To accommodate you know when things Start to get a little bit harder out There and during your training so our Top marathon shoe pick for beginners is This shoe the asex Nova blast 5 and this Is definitely a shoe that you can use For all of your training time and it Used on race day itself now from a Comfort point of view and a fit point of View all the key things are here it's a Very kind of snug fitting upper easy to Get on and get off the uh shoe in General is a very roomy and Accommodating one there is a wider fit Option available as well in one of the Colorways so if you want something a Little bit broader fitting then you do Have that option here now in terms of That riding experience it's naturally a Very broad shoe so it's already very Stable it spreads this kind of softer Foam not overly soft or plush but just Enough to protect and give you that Comfort over kind of longer runs and That longer Marathon distance You've Got A reduced heel bevel from the previous Nova blast and a shoe that in general Has a kind of very gentle kind of mild

Rocker in it so as a combination of all Those things just helps you to roll Through and kind of tick through those Running miles it's going to be a great Shoe for those long runs where you just Want something that's going to roll Through very nicely it's going to be Simly something on Race dat as well That's going to just feel very Comfortable very stable and very Balanced when you are tackling that Marathon distance you've got an outsole Here as well that's got just enough Rubber to maybe allow you to run some Slightly lighter Trails as well and give You a good level of durability and grip As well too so our top marathon shoe Pick for beginners is this the asex Nova Blast 5 so some other shoes worth Considering in this category include This newb 1080 v14 now this is more Expensive than the Nova blast 5 but like The Nova blast it does offer some Versatility this is a shoe that's going To be great for long runs but can also Handle some slight more moderate and Uptempo running Paces maybe not you're All out fastest running but something Just below that now this is a Max Cushion shoe so it's really about Putting a lot of cushion under your foot To provide that protection and comfort Now unlike a lot of Max cushion shoes It's definitely a lot lighter than the

Competition which does allow that kind Of nicer versatility while also giving Those kind of protective and kind of you Know Comfort qualities the ride is very Good as well you know you've got a kind Of a gentle mold rocker in there as well And coupled with that weight it just Helps again like the Nova blast to kind Of tick you through that running time And it's going to be a great shoe if you Really want to kind of maintain your Pace over that Marathon distance and you Know you've got something on your feet That's going to be very controlled Stable and very comfortable and is going To be very protective so that's one shoe To consider here in this category and That's the new Bal 1080 v14 another shoe Worth mentioning here is the britco 16 Now this sits at the same price as the Nova blast 5 and while it doesn't have The same memorable ride as the Nova Blast 5 or the 1080 v14 it still has all The qualities of a good Marathon shoe For beginners you're getting plenty of Width fit options here more than most Other brands including the brands that We've mentioned already you're getting a Upper that is really comfortable very Well well padded and very snug fitting From kind of Hill collar down to the Midfoot and the toe box as well you're Getting an out soole that has plenty of Rubber so you know you're going to get a

Good life out of this shoe and it really Adds to the more kind of stable feel That you're getting from the Brooks go 16 now you're getting a changing that Midsole foam and midsole makeup from the Previous ghost you've got that DNA LOF V3 there which isn't you know massively Lively but what it does do it gives you Enough in terms of protection in terms Of comfort and create something that's Very smooth and consistent you know we Talked about that stable kind of nature Of a shoe for kind of training after for Marathon day and that this is a shoe That really kind of you know stands out On that front so the Brooks G 16 is is One worth checking out as well too and It's also worth mentioning the S ride 18 Which sits at the same price as the no Blast 5 and the Brooks GH 16 and like The no blast 5 and the 1080 v14 there's Definitely a little bit more versatility About the ride 18 if you want something They can handle slightly of tempo Running or feel more comfortable at Those Paces then this is definitely a Shoe that can do that from a fit point Of view it's naturally again a very Roomy accommodating shoe particularly in That toe box area and you do have a Wider fit option available here from a Ride point of view you're getting s's Power run plus cushioning which is soft But overly soft and definitely has a

More responsive Edge to it which allows You to run I think a little bit more Uptempo in it and you're getting an Outsole which is offering enough rubber To give you that kind of good strong Kind of grip and give you that good Traction and give you good life out this Year and ensure it can handle all of Your training and that race day as well And adds to that kind of inherently more Stable kind of smooth kind of Comfortable feeling you're going to get From this shoe You' got s ride 18 Another option there the Nova blast 5 Being our top pick but also worth Looking at the new Bon atv4 the Brooks Go 16 and the Sak ride [Music] 18 not everyone who is running a Marathon is looking to get a really fast Time not everyone's trying to get a sub Three uh marathon time which means that You probably don't need to get a carbon Plate Rao that's really really expensive If your aim is to cross the finish line In Comfort uh and to run consistently For for the run and just to have a nice Time on the day there's loads of shoes That are good for this but the one That's cropped up the most in uh Discussions that we've had is the Brooks Glycerin Max now the reason this shoe is So good is Brooks generally makes shoes That are fairly stable um but the Brooks

Max has this really big stack of midell Foam in it as well so it's really really Cushioned and comfortable to run in but It's also got a nice turnover in it as Well it's a shoe that I use a lot for Marathon or I did use a lot for marathon Training before Valencia marathon when I Was doing longer sessions and I wanted a Shoe that was comfortable I could go and Do a 30 km run and feel like my eggs Were fresh at the end but also it feel Like it was helping me just to maintain A nice consistent pace for the duration Of that run and the glyer max is a great Shoe for that you it's it's not the Softest shoe in the world so it doesn't Saap your energy um it's got a nice bit Of responsiveness it's got a lovely Smooth transition um and it has a bit of Stability in it as well so if you're Looking for a shoe uh to do a Comfortable marathon in it is a great Option it is quite pricey one though so It's probably a shoe that you'll pick up If you're going to do all of your Training and racing in the same shoe so You probably would't buy this as well as Loads of other shoes as well another Option that's cropped up in our list That's worth looking at is the sakon Hurricane 24 now similar to the Brooks Glyer and Max it's a very stable shoe It's actually a shoe designed for Stability uh but it doesn't ride like

That if you don't need stability it's Still a great shoe it's really Comfortable it's got a lovely smooth Transition in it the midsole is nicely Balanced it's not too soft but it's also Not really firm either um and it's just An all around fantastic really solid Shoe if you're just looking for Something that ticks all the boxes Really in when you're running a marathon If you're racing a marathon uh it's good To have a little bit stability in a shoe As well because at the later stages you Really notice that your body is losing Its form it's nice to have a little bit Of stability in the shoe that helps you In those latest stages um just to Maintain that at the best form you can At the end of a marathon um and just Give you a little bit more peace of mind And comfort uh that um you're going to Be able to cross that finish line as Comfortably as possible it's still quite A pricey shoe but it's been out for a While now so you can generally find it Quite a bit cheaper online now so £65 Bit cheaper than the Brooks s room Max But um yeah you can get it noticeably Cheaper in the UK at the moment if you Search online and our final shoe to talk About in this category is a new balance Mo V5 I talk about the New Balance Mo Range all the time it's probably my Favorite range for when it comes to easy

Days uh recovery runs long runs anything Really and they have developed it quite A lot over the last few iterations the Latest version of it is by far the best Best one of the shoes that they've had The reason why it's so good you get this Really big stack of midell foam in here But it isn't a sloppy Midol foam um it's It's nicely balanced it's it doesn't Really sink into the ground too much so It helps when you're running longer but It is a very comfortable cushion shoe to Run in so if you're looking for all out Comfort and cushioning on the run but You don't want a shoe that is really Going to sink you into the ground and Take away that energy because you will Need a bit of energy um as you're Running a marathon and you don't want to Have something that's sapping it and Taking it away all the time New Balance Mov 5 is a great option for that it's Very comfortable it's fairly stable as Well and it's bit cheaper than the other Options that we've put in as well so This is a good option if you're looking For all out Comfort uh and you just want To cross that finish line with nice Fresh legs and you want to minimize the Impact along the [Music] Way so next category we have here is the Best value Marathon running shoes Because in general running shoes are

Getting very expensive that's certainly True of marathon Racing shoes that have Carbon plates in them but the value is a Tricky thing to judge and in this cat We've not just gone for the cheapest Shoes out there we've tried to balance Price and performance to give you couple Of options here that really will work Well for the marathon and help you hit Your goals whatever they are in terms of Completion or trying to run a fast time What's coming a lot cheaper to similar Shoes we'd say so actually got two Winners in this category to kind of suit Different marathon runners so one is a Cushion shoe that is comfortable works For daily training will work on Marathon Day it's fairly light and responsive and Should work well for a nice range of Runners in general as a comfortable Option that will carry through the Marathon at a pretty Speedy Pace I'd say Then we have more of an intermediate Running shoe that we think off as great Value to people who want to go and run a Fast time in the marathon but don't want To spend loads of money and you're Getting a really fantastic training shoe That you can use on race day as well at A pretty good price so the first of the Shoes is the pummer velocity Nitro 3 one Of our favorite shoes on the channel we Talk about it a lot especially when it Comes to Value because it is really good

Value compared to other running shoes And nearly always in sales can even look At the velocity Nitro 2 if you see that In the sale because they are quite Similar all around this is a neutral Cushion shoe it's got quite a high drop Of 10 mm but it isn't very Snappy and Uncomfortable I found as a heel Striker I do think it has quite a smooth ride For a high drop shoe a dual density Midsole in there with a top layer of a Nice responsive nitrogen infused foam That gives you a fair bit back while Also being you know very comfortable It's a shoe you can use for all your Training runs you know really will rack Up the miles and you've got a great Outsole in it for durability and grip And it has enough speed there to carry Around the marathon in both you know Enough Comfort but also give you the Chance to kick on a bit if you are Sensing that you want to try and run a Bit faster and you know deliver your Best performance so that's the Puma Velocity Nitro 3 a fantastic value shoe For sure and then for a faster really Good value shoe that can help you Perform in the marathon we've gone for The Adidas Adizero evos that's a new Shoe that's just about to launch and Might not be available right away which Might you know Scupper those who've got A marathon coming very soon but in

General this is a fantastic option for Training for the marathon it's a Lightweight plateless shoe with a big Stack of ad's Light Strike Pro foam Really responsive super foam there that Gives you a lot of Bounce it's a very Comfortable shoe as well I've used it For so many different kinds of runs and It's always really impressed me and you Can run fast in it and sustain fast Paces in this shoe even though it Doesn't have a plate in there which just Tends to elevate the price beyond what We think is necessarily good value so The eosl really is great value for some Runners it won't have the stability and Support needed for or four Marathon Perhaps so that's why we're pitching This more at maybe intermediate Runners Going for a fast time who don't want to Spend loads and loads of money and Evo Is certainly Great Value like it's £ 130 In the UK know that price is so much Cheaper than super trainers of plates or Even other super trainers that have Great Foams in the mid like the super Blast so do think it's great value and a Really good option for runners going for That fast time one other shoe would Mention here as kind of a general runner Up is the aex no blast 5 which we can Talked about a few times in this video Just a really good shoe it's comfortable It's pretty lightweight definitely got

The comfort and support there for a Marathon and months of training but has Enough pop there to run a little bit Faster if you find you want to on Race There as well and comes in a lot cheaper Than most you know really high-end Cushion shoes out [Music] There on to the next category then while There's a tendency to think that carbon Plated race shoes are now really the Only option for running the marathon or The best option some of those carbon Shoes with a race package of strip back Uppers minimal heel collars sometimes Narrower and less stable platforms Bouncier Foams they can leave you a Little bit more exposed particularly if Things go south and you end up on The Struggle Bus deep into your Marathon so There's a very good case for lacing up a Kind of shoe that balances the energy And the Lively ride a shoe that helps You move fast and efficiently but Doesn't sacrifice the Comfort stability And the cushion all of those things that You'll be really glad of if mile 20 hits You like a freight train so for this Category we're looking at shoes that fit That bill we've got the very best Non-plated Marathon shoes and our top Pick in this category right now might Not surprise you because we talked a lot About on the channel but the ax super

Blast 2 now the ax super Blast 2 packs a Massive stacked wide dual foam midsole With a mix of flight foam blast plus Eco Foam and flight foam turbo plus it's a Big shoe but it's surprisingly light for Its overall bulkiness and what you get Here is Big cushioned Comfort that's Soft and bouncy it's not too soggy in The main it's got a wide platform that's Reliable and protective but also serves Up good leg sparing energy at most Paces That comes from that energetic Controlled mid so I did a solar Marathon Test in the superlast 2 you can find That video on the channel somewhere and The main takeaway from that was just how Consistent it was from start to finish On fresh or tired legs the super Blast 2 Is a kind of shoe that also feeds back The energy that you put in but it'll Also look after you if your intensity Dips or your form goes a bit ragged so No matter what happens out there from Mile 1 to 26.2 the superlast 2 kind of Has your back you've also got these Nicely padded heel colors you got a Roomy toe box you've got nice sort of Slightly padded tongues all comfortable And give you that confidence to just go And run without without worrying about Rubbing the other big selling point of This versatile shoe is that you can buy It to cover an entire training and Racing block for a marathon pretty much

It's about as close as you'll get to Having one go-to shoe that can almost Replace your entire rotation it comes With quite a high price tag but with That you get bucket loads of Versatility And you're actually getting pretty good Value as a result if we were lining up To run a marathon knowing we weren't 100% trained or feeling just off our Best or we just wanted a comfortable day Out with head room to run fast if we Felt like it if the body allowed it this Would be one of the shoes that would be High high up our list if not top of it Now other shoes we rated in this Category include the Hoka Max 6 it's Another cushioned stable Balance shoe That's Happy moving fast and protective Enough moving slow it might run a little Stiffer a little bit more direct a bit Closer to the ground than some Runners Want for longer hours it's not got that Really sort of plush plush plush cushion It's not as cushion as some options Overall but it has good range great Disappearing comfort on the foot and It's good reliable non-plated option That really can shift if you need it to Then there's the uh super blast sort of Sibling the Nova blast 5 from atics Which isn't a million miles away from That super Blast 2 if you want a more Compact Marathon shoe that also balances Cushion and bounce the no blast 5 is a

Capable Marathon Cruiser just a bit less Punchy than the superlast 2 and it comes With a slightly softer Edge we've also Got two shoes from New Balance we got The new balance balos and the rebel V4 These two versatile non-plated shoes Come with peber mid so that do a good Job of blending comfort and performance With a lively enough midsole stat that Delivers energy without a plate but Crucially you've got that comfort for The Long Haul in both of these shoes These are shoes that would suit Runners Looking to run four hours plus over the Marathon and also I think heavier Runners who want or need a bit more Protection coming up from the [Music] Road so our last category is the best Marathon running shoes for training and Racing so in this category we're looking At shoes that are pitched at Runners who Really do want to fly on race who want To go out there and set a PP but don't Necessarily want to spend really big on A carbon plate racing shoe they want one Shoe that they're going to be able to do All their training in but you know not Leave themselves short on race day it Has to have that level of performance And that's a tricky balance to find Because carbon plate running shoes Aren't the most durable you don't want To run in them all the time really in

Training and obviously cushion shoes That have that durability don't Necessarily give you that speed on race Day so certainly some overlap here Between these shoes and the ones we Talked about in previous categories but We think it's worth its own distinct Category for the one shoe Runner who Does want a shot and race day in general We're looking at Super trainers in this Category so that shoes with a plate in Them that's not necessarily a full Carbon plate though so it's a little bit More flexible and comfortable and then You have a balance of Foams to give you That a similar level of responsiveness To a carbon shoe but maybe a bit more Durability and stability and our top Pick really typifies all those things It's the Hoka Mac X2 one of my favorite Shoes of last year that I still love This year as well it's got dual density Midso with a top layer of PE foam you've Got a peber plate which is gives you That pop without being quite as harsh as A carbon plate and the bottom layer is Some kind of EV a phone which gives you A bit more stability in the shoe which Has you know really a mega High stack It's also got very lightweight racy Upper which does help in terms of speed The hak X2 but not necessarily the most Comfortable so I've got on very well With it very happy to pull this year on

All the time but that's something to Look at you know the heel can be a bit Fiddly and rubby for some Runners but Certainly the performance is there this Is a very far shoe this is a shoe I Think really is very close to the Performance of a carbon plate racing Shoe what's giving you that extra Versatility for lots of training as well So that is our top pick overall for Training and racing we got a few other Super trainers they're definitely worth Mentioning here as well one of them is The Nike Zoom fly 6 which is a really Comfortable super trainer you know got a Really nice padded upper much more Comfortable upper than the hoker and Then a really good midsole with a top Layer of Nike zoomx foam bottom layer of A carrier foam that again adds that Stability and it does have a carbon Plate but it's a fairly flexible one and This is a shoe that you can use for Every run really comfortable great for Long runs not so Speedy that you feel Out of place on your easy runs and then You got a nice level of responsiveness And pop for fast runs it's not quite as Speedy as the Mac X2 I'd say for short Stuff but for the marathon I think it Will work really well as you know a Stable supportive shoe to carry you Through that distance with the extra Punch from the plate similar from the

Sak and Dophin speed 4 which is a Nimbler shoe a lighter shoe and very Fast one it's not quite as supportive And cushioned as things like the Hoka And the Nike but you've got a very Natural ride it's a quite a stable shoe Naturally you've got a peber based foam In the mids soole with a nylon plate Lots of Pop there a Shoe that's been a Favorite on the channel for a long time Really nice rocker on it as well that Does help you maintain speed late into Hard runs and even races so another good Super trainer option not looking at a Plated shoe in this category the Adidas Ad azero evos would be the one we'd look Out or the Astic super blast both just Fantastic shoes for a range of runs I Think the evos has a little bit more Speed in it and the one I'd maybe look At racing a marathon in myself but the Super blast has a bit more cushioning And stability and then lastly we want to Mention the Mao Neo Vista here as well Because this is another nylon plated Trainer with a big stack of very bouncy Foam it's so comfortable it's so fun It's certainly going to really Excel Throughout the months of training and it Has the speed for fast sessions and Certainly a long race like a marathon You'll be able to bounce through very Merily in the shoe so yeah lots of great Super trainers there the hoker max2

Would be our top pick but some other Options there if you don't find you get On with the hoker so that's our Roundup Of the best Marathon running shoes Available right now in early 2025 let us Know what you think in the comments Below and dive in with your own Suggestions for each category what you Think other Runners should be looking at That you've enjoyed yourself obviously We can't test every shoe as much as we Try so it's always good to get Suggestions down there please do like And subscribe ring the little bell and We'll see you next time
