This fast training and race shoe aims to put Brooks back in the leading pack with the big hitting race shoes like the ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris, the Adidas Adios Pro 4 and the Nike Alphafly Next% 3. Hey people welcome to the Run testers And to our first run look at the new Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 PB it's the new Peber midsole carbon racer from Brooks It carries Brooks new DNA gold foam and It aims to put Brooks back in the race With a big hitting carbon race shoes We've taken it for a first Spin and here Are our first Impressions some quick details first in Stack height comes in at 40 m in the Hill 32 Ms in the 4ot for an 8 mil drop On weting lands at 200 g or 7.1 o in my UK men's 8 and a half teso on price it's A bump up on the Hyperion Elite for $250 was $220 before we didn't have the UK price at the time recording this but We will stick it in the caption below Once we get it we're recording on a Sunday night so we can't email people to Ask Them onto a quick shoe whip round then And at first glance the Brooks hyper and Elite 4 PB looks like the hyper and Elite four that's because pretty much Everything is identical to the Elite 4 There's just one really important update Brooks has swapped the DNA flash foam For its new DNA gold 100% peber foam This is a high energy foam that works With a carbon fiber speed volt race plus Which is a plate with bending stiffness Optimized for each shoe up top you've Got the same highly perforated minimal
Airy knit uppers you've got a flat neted Tongue with a little lace pinch padding Really minimal heel collars with quite a Small core shoe of internal padding for Heel hold and comfort and then when you Flip them over there is a good covering Of out soole rubber across the 4 foot Here the mid to 4 foot it's quite thick For a carbon racer actually there's a Little less in the heels just in the Impact zones there's also a massive Cutout trench in the midfoot section Although it is big enough hopefully to Avoid any stone Catching so the fit for me in the Hyperion Elite 4 PB I'm size eight in The UK this is a size eight it's very Much what you would expect from a high Performance ratio um it's not the Roomiest fit around but it's in Comparison to a lot of other race shoes It's probably slightly roomier than Things like the alphafly 3 uh the Splining space around the side of the Forefoot not lows before my big toe but That's how I like it especially in raay Shoes um and around the midfoot uh it's Pretty lean but it's it's still fairly Comfortable the upper fa has got quite a Lot given it it's a very thin um Breathable upper uh and it does give Quite a lot of flexibility um as well so It's very comfortable Sho to wear on That first run and I definitely stating
My size in this shoe so it comes to the Fit of the Hyperion Elite 4 PB it's Exactly same as the fit I had on the Hyperion Elite 4 I've got my normal Running shoe size here it's got a Comfortable fit around the toes it's Probably a little bit more dialed in Than some of Brooks's cushion shoes like The Ghost and glycerin but certainly Still have enough room there I did a Long run in it today and had no problems With that at all I don't love the little Strip of kind of padding you have around The back of the shoe just that little Strip that Nike does as well on its Shoes with the vaporfly in particular Sometimes it's exactly the right spot to Irritate my achilles but I haven't had The Anye problems with that for a little While now and I had no problems with That today you know doing a long run in The shoe so even though I would get rid Of that it hasn't actually been a Problem for me and all around the fit's Been fine in my normal size so I'd stick To That good morning from London about to I Do my first run in the Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 PB the P version of the shoe got A pretty big run to doing the shoot out The gate today I've got a 22 Mile today As part of my London marathon training Not London ceville marathon training and Then London marathon training uh I'm
Going to do of the 20 miles the first 11 I'm going to do at 6:30 per mile pace And then the second half is going to be At 6 Minute per mile Pace obviously a Bit risky to do this with a shoe Straight out the box not something I'd Advis but as the fit and everything is So exactly the same as the other version Of the shoe which is always fine for me I think it's okay it's just a new Underfoot feel going be testing out Today hopefully provides nice level of Support and bounce throughout this run Which which is acting basically like a Full dress rehearsal for the marathon I've got all my Marathon kit and Nutrition in place and just different Stuff on top because it's a bit colder Here than it hopefully we'll be in Seville so going to head out and do that Now and should be should be Fun so all done uh did about I just over 24 miles in total with warm up and cool Down with the 22 m in the middle which Went very well very smooth today very Controlled yeah really felt good out There just ticked off the miles put on Bit of music in the last last 5 miles Sing a along great day lovely sunny day Just yeah really good positive run and Yeah Brooks have got a shoe now they've Got a good shoe here it's got the Feeling you need underfoot P foam carbon Plate big stacky just the Classic
Ingredients that we've all known for a Long time it's just in the shoe now and Now it's free to see what Brits can do To refine it because obviously this Isn't geometry design for this foam it's Just a classic Hyperion 4 with a better Foam in and it's improved the shoe Massively for sure it's a lot more Comfortable bouncier lighter poppier Just you know better all around and the Ride was great today like you're nice And comfortable you know fairly relaxed First half ticking along with a nice Comfortable ride Under Foot and then That light bouncy feel in the second Half of the run when you wanted that as Well personally I probably prefer a Slightly more rocket ride with a bit More foam under the foref foot cuz you Know it still kind of snaps through a Little bit with that AAL drop but it Wasn't uncomfortable at all under my Foref foot even with you know fairly Long run today so all around big Improvement big step in the right Direction I think this is issue that you Can run fast in now puts Brooke amongst It amongst the pack with every other Brand with their kind of classic peber Shoes with high stacks and plates and This is a really good one it's a nice Lightweight one it's comfortable it's Not too squishy but you have got a nice Level of softness underfur a lot of
Bounce and yeah excited to see what Happens from here with the Brooks racing Line and look forward to doing a bit More running in this shoe or do some Kind of faster shorter reps in it having Got that long run out the way now and Really impressed me on that one today so My first running this year was Parker This morning I've not done a par for a Long time not done a 5K race for a long Time so um I went down to Preston Park In Brighton to see where my fitness is At uh and it's not great but it's not as Bad as I thought it was and it of 1917 Which is about a minute of my PB on that Course um and previously uh I haven't Used the last version of the um the Hyperion uh Elite but uh I I have used Earlier versions and I wasn't a fan of Those shoes they just didn't have what I Wanted from a carbon plate shoe uh the Phone just wasn't soft and bouncy enough For me in those shoes um and I would I Would very rarely pick those shoes up For anything I'd probably at best use Use it for um Tempo training or Something like that but definitely not For race day this is different um on That first run I really really enjoyed Running this year I was really surprised Um about how good this phone was on that Run um it's nice and soft it's DNA gold Um it it feels very soft it's squishy Get a nice bit of bounce back as well
And that carbon plate in it is very nice It's a very good experience um when You're running at PACE um it's also Relatively natural feeling shoe as well So it's not too aggressive for me on on That run it felt very nice and Comfortable to wear over the course of It but did feel like I was getting quite A lot of energy back over the course of That run um I do feel that I think um For me this probably works better for Shorter distances uh I don't think it Has the level of cushioning that I'd Want from ISU if I was going to go up to Marathon distance maybe half marathon Distance I think it would be good for Half Marathon distance actually maybe Just all the way up to Marathon distance I probably wouldn't choose this shoe but It's pretty good um and I'm definitely Looking forward to doing a lot more runs In it uh and trying out some long Distance stuff in it and some intervals And things like that but over the course Of that first run very much enjoyed it Had to be very comfortable fast energy Returning and comfortable shoe so I Think it's an absolute win for me on on This new version of the um uh Hyperion Elite um and the outsole as well I Really like this outsole um is a little Bit wet on the ground today um and this This rubber was absolutely fine didn't Have any problems there's quite a lot of
Switch backs on the part run that I did On slightly wet ground mes at all felt Very very good uh and quite stable as Well um so yeah very much enjoyed that First run and very positive about Testing this shoe out further so I've Been really excited to test this one There was a lot I liked about the Hyperian Elite 4 the fit the Comfort but It just lacked Lively Edge that you get From some of the very best carbon raes So I'm glad a lot has stayed the same Here and for this first run test I did a 10mile mix Pace run with four miles at Marathon pace a couple of Miles slightly Slower and then I did four miles easy or What might be described as kind of the Wheels have come off Pace just to see How it would feel you know towards the End of a marathon that kind of stuff now When you first pop them on they've got Good overall Comfort I found them easy To lace them on and get them comfortable Good lock down everything sort of feels Light and agile and it's sort of nice Fit easy disappearing all of that kind Of stuff is there you've got an Energetic foam underfoot that gives you That immediate let's run fast sort of Super Shoe Vibe the minute you lace them On you're walking around the house then When I got moving for the marathon pace Miles I felt excellent return from the Mid soulle plate combo it definitely is
A shoe that urges you to move faster but What I really like about it is you've Got a stable consistent platform as well There's more than a little of the aex Metas speed Sky Paris vibe to this shoe I think though my gut tells me it's Maybe not quite as stiff and propulsive As that shoe but going to be sort of Doing some sideb side testing on that to See but this may please anyone that Found the meta speed Sky Paris a bit Harsh because I think it has a little Bit more cushion about it I didn't but Some did now the Elite 4 PB certainly Has a more reliable platform I think Than the softer adios Pro 4 from Adidas Particularly when you're moving slower Or Landing slower further back on the Shoe that was another thing that I Really liked about it from that first 10 Mile so my initial reaction in those Early miles where I was pushing Marathon Pce was this is a shoe that I think I Could actually race a marathon in and do Well if the Hyperion Elite 4 was missing The Super Shoe punch I think that peber Midso you've got here now definitely Turns things up and makes it a fun Lively ride what I really like as well Though was on the slower mil Landing Further back in the shoe I still felt Protected some Super Shoes Excel when You're moving all out but leave you sort Of compromising on Comfort or confidence
In your foot strike when you drop to Sort of slower Paces I didn't get any of That here on those slower miles it kind Of copes with slow miles really well Also and that's something I really like In a race shoe final thing I really love The colorway too I think the Aesthetics Department at Brooks has definitely 100% Up to its games the last few shoes They've produced I think have been Absolute bangers that's a big thumbs up So my early verdict on this shoe um I Really like it I'm I'm based on my Knowledge of previous versions of the Shoe I've never been a massive fan of The Hyperion Elite range um but this Shoe I really have warmed to very Quickly on that run it feels very Comfortable fast um nippy a lovely bit Of um uh energy return from that that Mido little bit softer than what I've Experienced previously um and definitely Ass Sho that I'm likely to start using For races um for the 5K distance it felt Great I definitely used it for a 5k Again looking forward to trying it for a 10K think it would be fine for half Marathon as well um so I've got Brighton Half Maron coming up soon deciding what Shoe to wear for that race so um we've Got a few coming in like the so and dfin Elite 2 which I would quite like to test Out as well but um this finally Brooks Has made a ratio that I am uh tempted to
Use for uh races now which I I wouldn't Say about the early versions that I Tested of the shoe so definitely Definitely thumbs up from me on that First run and um definitely looking Forward to doing a lot more runs in this Shoe so my early impressions of the Hyper Elite 4pb are all very positive You've got a really solid carbon plate Racing shoe here with a classic design You know standard stuff 40 mm at the Heel of a PE of foam with a carbon plate You 8 mm drop just you know runs well is Very lightweight is protective underf Foot with enough squish there so you Know for those long runs but a nice Responsive toe off and you Brooks is now A bit more competitive in this market The fact it's taken until essentially The fifth model model of their racing Shoe or the four and a half model is Disappointing because we've all kind of Known what you could have done with Shoes with PE Foams for a long time now But it is here now and it's a really Nice foam it's a nice feeling shoe and I'm looking forward to see what happens With the Hyperion Elite 5 as well not Sure the Hyperion Elite 4 PB is really Going to necessarily stand out that much On the carbon shoe market but I do think The performances there you know puts it Into the bracket where you know you can Racing the shoe and you're not really
Going to be leaving anything on the Table by not opting for a different shoe But as I mentioned the run test I want To get out and do some short F stuff in It as well and push it maybe in a race If I can but all around enjoyed the shoe Today on that long run it's got a nice Feeling to it and Brooks certainly now Has a much more competitive racing shoe In its lineup so first impressions then Well it's early days in testing and this Is just my very initial thoughts from a 10 mile but from those early miles I Really like what I see in this shoe I Think it's got all the Hallmarks for me Of a good race shoe particularly for the Way that I run good Race Day Option lot Of boxes ticked good easy comfort from The upper snug and supportive fit but Roomy enough in the toe box the shoe Disappears nicely from these really Perforated lightweight minimal ERS you Can kind of forget you're wearing this Shoe then there's a really good Consistent energy to the midso I talk a Lot about controlled energy and I think This shoe delivers that it's Lively it's Exciting but you just feel under control In it so even though it's got a somewhat Narrow platform similar to the aex metal Speed Sky Paris I had really good Confidence in each strike I knew what I Was going to get each time my foot hit The ground I ran in some wet conditions
