The Adidas Boston 12 and Hoka Mach 6 are two of our favourite daily trainers, offering a lot of versatility and comfort for easy runs along with speed for faster ones. The Boston 12 is more of a super-trainer, with Adidas’s EnergyRods and bouncy Lightstrike Pro in the midsole, while the Mach 6 keeps things simple with a lightweight design that uses a supercritical EVA in the midsole. Nick likes both shoes, but which should you get?

Hello and welcome to run testers my name Is Nick in this video I'm going to be Comparing the Hoka Max 6 and the Adidas Boston [Music] 12 the Boston 12 and the Mac 6 are both Versatile daily trainers that lean a Little bit more to the Speedy end of Things on paper but I found them very Good for a wide variety of runs they're Two of my favorite shoes on the market I Thought it' be worth comparing them cuz They come in at a similar price as well The Boston is £40 or $160 the Max 6 is £140 or $140 so bit cheaper in the US The Mac is the lighter shoe is 233 G or 8.2 o in uk9 whereas the Boston is 259 G Or 9.1 o in the same size Boston has a 7 Mm drop with a stack height of 38 mm at The heel and 31 at the for foot Mac has A 5 mm drop and it has a different Stackit for men and women it's 37 mm at The heel in the men's shoe and 35 mm in The women's shoe design of the as Boston You've got a very lightweight minimal Upper quite a racy upper all round with A thin tongue thin laces not a lot of Padding at the heel or much structure at The heel of the shoe there not really a Significant internal heel counter Although there is something there you've Got a dual density midsole with a top Layer of Adidas's Light Strike proo then A bottom layer of Light Strike 2.0 which
Is an EVA foam then between those two Layers of foam you have alides glass Fiber infused energy rods 2.0 these Basically act a bit like a plate in the Shoe to add a bit more pop and Propulsion and makes the Boston more of A super trainer whereas the Mac I guess Would be more of a classic daily trainer Then you've got a continental rubber Outso great coverage on the 4 foot two Strips of rubber at the back there pokem MAAC 6 has a creel jackard mesh upper With an extended heel tab you see that Rises quite high up the back of the shoe There little bit of padding around there Quite a thin tongue though it's still Quite a lightweight setup up top you've Got a super critical Eva midsole which Is all made of the same material in the Past the Mac 4 and 5 had a dual density Midsole but it's all the same stuff Within the Max 6 got a bit of a rocker Going on and then nice rubber out soole On the shoe which again is new to the Hoka Max 6 the previous models just had A rubberized Eva outsole but you've got Rubber on the Max 6 and good coverage Running the length of the shoe a little Bit of expose right at the heel there But even as a heel Striker it's not an Area that I seem to hit very much [Music] Myself comes to the fit I've got a uk9 Which is US 9.5 for both of these Brands
Sometimes it's a US 10 but with Adidas And Hoka it's a US 9.5 so they can be a Bit snugger than other brands and Actually both the Boston and the Mac Have a history of being fairly narrow Shoes I'd say that's still mostly true The Mac in particular is quite narrow The toe box the Boston's a little bit Wider than we have seen from ad zero Shoes in the past but it's still not in Any way a wide shoe I'd say both of them Fit me very well cuz I do have a narrow Foot so in terms of length and width They're both really good for me I've got No problems at all with the Mac the uh Boston is quite a fussy fit because it's A thin upper it's quite racy like I say You have to fiddle around with it quite A lot I've had to heel lock the shoe to Avoid getting heel rub at the back fin I Can get some lace bite through the Tongue when I do lace it up nice and Tight for Speed work so yeah it's not my Favorite thing about the shoe for sure The upper on it which is like I said Quite racy and if you're using it as a Day da trainer just something you have To fiddle with almost every time you put The shoe [Music] On comes to run test Boston obviously Came out last year and it was one of my Favorite shoes of last year it's just a Really versatile and impressive
Allrounder like a really good update on What we saw from the Boston 10 and 11 Which were comfortable longdistance Cruisers but bit heavy and not really What I thought of as a Boston shoe this Very much is it's got a lightweight fast Feel feels very nippy it's not actually The lightest shoe in the world but it Feels lighter than its weight pushes you Onto your 4 foot and you get a nice fast Ride from the combination of that Light Strike Pro foam and the rods in the Midsole really Dynamic you know Punchy Feeling when you are upping the pace but You can also go right back to easy Pace In the shoe and it feels pretty Comfortable you've got big high stack Here and the two Foams involved are Quite soft and they meld together quite Nicely on the run to give you that dual Density feeling you're sinking into That Bouncy top layer hitting a slightly Firmer layer beneath and then getting a Nice responsive toe off and a easy Paces They do feel just nice and cushioned and Protective it's not the wide is shuee at The back and maybe some people find it a Bit unstable because of that especially When you're looking at easy runs but Certainly a nice quick shoe that has That range to go from easy runs right up To very fast ones the Mac 6 lives up to The high standards of the hok line I've Been a fan of the shoe for the last few
Generations as just a really nice simple Lightweight versatile allround the shoe That is really good for long runs and Cruising around in particular but has That top end speed if you want it like It's not got the same level of pace as The Boston because there's no rods in There the foam just isn't quite as Impressive as the Light Strike Pro foam On the top in particular but you can go And do faster runs in the shoe and is a Bit wider a bit more stable bit more Comfortable for Rel maed easy runs as Well like this is still kind of pegged As a faster shoe within hok's lineup but It really is a very good allrounder Daily trainer that I think is very good For relaxed long runs good for marathon Training for eating up a lot of miles Because it is just a comfortable stable Shoe that is nice and light on the foot And ticks over very nicely as a result So R and bosies at the same time that Kind of the extra punch you get from the Boston is very clear it moves you onto Your for very quickly you get that sink Into the Light Strike Pro foam and then The punch from the rods like if you're Going to run fast the Boston is Definitely the faster shoe of these two It feels much more around with that Tight upper and all that going on it Feels lighter than the Mac even though It is the heavier shoe just because does
Have that very fast transition and then That nice responsive feeling Hoka has Much more of a daily trainer feel like It's l wider at the back of the shoe and I think that definitely helps with Things like stability makes it feel a More grounded shoe and you kind of can Cruise along in it very nicely it rolls You through your foot strike but it's Not punching you forward like the Boston Does when you are trying to run fast When you rock back through the gears Like I said you get that nice stable Feel from the Hoka it definitely feels Like a shoe that you can do a lot of Easy runs in a lot of relaxed runs Boston less so but it is still Comfortable like it probably will depend On your taste in shoes as well like some People won't enjoy the Boston I think For those easy runs cuz it is quite a Strip back shoe the upper is annoying And yeah it maybe doesn't feel quite as Stable as the Hoka but I think it can do Them really well and I don't think You're getting a huge uptick and comfort With the Hoka but it does have a more Relaxed feel and enjoyable feel for easy Running other thing I noticed when I ran In both at the same time was when Putting them on just how much more Annoying it is to put on the Boston and Sort the laces out like that is one Thing that does count against it as a
Daily trainer because it is just Slightly annoying to put it on and get It set up so it's not rubbing you in any Way or the laces aren't biting in you Got much more relaxed and easy fit with The [Music] Hoker it comes to the verdict I think Picking between these shoes will depend A little bit on what you're looking for The Boston is the more versatile shoe And it is the faster shoe as well so if You're a one shoe Runner who wants one Shoe to do it all and you want something Pretty Speedy you might take it to race Day as well Boston's definitely the Better pick you've got a rotation of Shoes and you're looking for a fast Trainer to do kind of your trap workouts Interval workouts Tempo runs Hills that Kind of thing the Boston is the better Pick of these two as well Hoka is a good versatile shoe it can do Everything I've just said about the Boston as well but it doesn't have that High-end performance when it comes to Speedy runs I think it is a more relaxed And comfortable easy day shoe so if You're looking to round out a rotation With an easy day shoe or a daily trainer With much more of an emphasis on long Runs relaxed runs just you know racking Up a lot of miles I think the hoker is The better option for that because it is
That bit more comfortable feels very Good at those relaxed Paces Boston can Do them but it isn't as comfortable with The hoker certainly for just easy long Runs I'd say so although the shoes do Overlap you could potentially look at Both of them in a rotation with a b as Your speed shoe and the hoker as your Everyday relaxed daily trainer but I Think there is so much overlap there I'd Probably be picking between them whether You prefer the punchier ride of the Boston with the rods in the mid soole or The simple more relaxed ride of the Hoker without those rods in there with Slightly less impressive thr all around But still a very good all round shoe the Only other thing I'd say when picking Between them is looking at Value and Although they are the same price in RP And the Boston's actually more expensive In the US Boston is a shoe that pops up In sales a lot like I've seen it pretty Often for under1 under $100 and things Like Black Friday sales and it's Actually a little bit harder to find Deals on the hul and Mac line in my Experience looking at past models so That's the thing about the Boston it can Come up very cheap and then you've got a Really good value shoe that can do a Little bit of everything although I do Think some Runners will find it a bit Narrow a bit too racy for easy runs in
Which case I'm like the Hoka would be a Better [Music] Option that's our comparison of the Boston 12 the Max 6 let us know what you Think in the comments below please like And subscribe and ring the little bell And see you next time
