Welcome back to another episode of Shoe Care Academy as Vick Almighty cleans up a pair of the newly released Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” thanks to our good friend Wilson at Archive.

The goal of today’s episode is to show you how to clean a pair. It’s a pretty straightforward process, so you should have no problems doing the same at home.

For this cleaning, we’ll be using the Essneital Kit and a few other products.
Let’s get into it.

To begin, Vick takes out the insoles and laces to clean those separately.

It’s onto set up our cleaning station. The dry rack and bowl combo, along with our three brushes, are a must. A towel, a bottle of solution, and shoe trees will also come in handy, along with our shoe cleaning mat.

Vick kicks off the cleaning by dry brushing with the Soft Bristle brush to get that initial layer of dirt and grime off.

You can dry brush the inside part of the shoe as well with the same method.

Since this is Wilson’s pair, we’ll be using the air compressor just to really clean these up.

We know everyone might not have access to an air compressor. The dry bruising method is just as effective; all you have to do is take your time and be thorough.

In Vick’s opinion, this might arguably be the best 1985 retro of the “Bred” 1 from the details to the shade of red and more.

Now, back to the cleaning.

The hardest part of this cleaning will be the midsole and outsole, so Vick will take care of that first and work his way up.

Before the cleaning, be sure to insert the insoles to help with the shape and guide you as a handle during the cleaning.

Since the upper is all leather, it’s a really easy clean, especially since the dry brushing prep work did most of the job with ease.

And since the pair isn’t too trashed, all that’s going to be needed is the soft bristle brush.

Once that’s complete, it’s time to move on to the insoles and laces. With the soft bristle brush as well.

Now that the cleaning is done, it’s time to compare this ‘85 retro with an actual Air Jordan 1 from 1985 and the custom-built-from-scratch Vick and Mark made years ago in the studio. While there are some similarities, there’s also a good amount of differences.

Nonetheless, Jordan Brand did a great job with this retro.

What's up YouTube this is Vic Almighty With another Shoe Care Academy episode This time we have the brand new 1985 Jordan 1 breads that just came out this Is a beautiful sneaker it came out super Limited this is still a pair I need in My collection but at the moment they're Going for way too much today's mission Is to show you guys how to clean up this Sneaker this is going to be an extremely Easy one i doubt they use the same Materials like they used on the black Toe Jordan 1's where the materials bleed The original 85 Jordan ones are built Like tanks if this sneaker is anything Like that then this sneaker should be no Problem to clean up we're going to be Using our essential shoe cleaning kit Let's get started shout out to the homie Wilson from Archive for letting us Borrow his pair to clean up i promise You man I'm going to make these look Brand new so to get started I'm going to Be focusing on the right shoe for before And after purposes i'm going to take out The shoelace and insole to thoroughly Clean those up Separately so this is my first time Really working with the brand new 85 Jordan 1 and it definitely got the lace On point it's got the perfect thickness And the correct pattern Insole same thing it's got the original Terry cloth on the bottom it's got the

Cool scripture that says of highest Quality now in the original 85s this Part wasn't on the insoles some of the Pairs had that underneath the lasting Board the only way to find that part is By taking the shoe apart and seeing if It's on there it's very rare but it's Really cool to see i'm going to go ahead And set up my cleaning station i got the Soft medium and stiff for a good Cleaning same thing with the dry rack And bowl combo with my water ready to go 4 oz bottle solution to clean up the Sneaker i'll also need a towel shoe tree Is very important to reshape the sneaker There isn't too much creasing on the Shoe but it's going to help either way Lastly I got my mat to keep everything Nice and clean most of this stuff is Included in our essential shoe cleaning Kit the rest is on rejuvenator.com now To get it started I'm going to be using The soft bristle brush to do a lot of Dry brushing on the uppers as you can See all around the black and the red is A lot of surface dust what I don't want To do is grab the brush dunk it in water Solution and push this dust deeper into The materials i got to get rid of it First so with the sabers brush I'm going To just brush it Off all right uppers look really good as You can see most of that surface dust is Off on the inside there is a lot of

Debris as well same thing i'm going to Grab this brush and do a lot of dry Brushing All right now honestly this is good Enough i got all the dust off from the Uppers all the debris off from the Insides now I'm going to be extra for The sneaker cuz it is Wilson's and it is An 85 bread i'm going to go next door Grab the compressor and finish the Job now I understand that not everybody Has a compressor or has access to one if That's the case just by using a soft Bristle brush and dry brushing the Sneakers does wonders just take your Time go back and forth that'll get the Job done Also now that the uppers are looking a Lot cleaner one thing I do want to point Out is the shade of red that they use on These uppers it's on point very close to The original 85s it's by far in my Opinion the best shade of red they used On any of the Retro Bread ones now the Hardest part of this cleaning is going To be the soles so I'm going to take Care of that first there's a lot of Grime on the midsoles and the soles so What I'm going to do is start off by Grabbing our solution squirt two squirts Inside our bowl of water two squirts is All you need it's highly concentrated Then with the stiff bristle brush I'm Going to take my time get these missiles

As clean as possible i want to get the Stitching all around back to white the Trick is to not letting any of the Bristles scratch the uppers once the Missiles are looking good I'll take care Of the soles before I start cleaning one Thing I got to do is put the shoe tree Inside the shoe not only does it help With the creasing and reshape the upper But it also helps as a handle as I clean The soles and the [Music] Midsoles the metal's looking back to White i'm going to move on to the soles Now get all the grime off of there after That I'm going to go back to the white Metal once again the rubber looks good But I want to make sure the stitching is As white as Possible don't forget don't let the set Bristles touch the uppers as you're Brushing if you do it too much it can Easily scratch with the leather and That's going to require more work to fix Soles are looking back to brand new Stitching is white midsole looks white As well same thing with the red on the Bottom no stains no grime at all now Before I move on from this area I do Want to point out these brand new Missiles they recreated for this 85 Jordan 1 it's almost an exact replica of The original Jordan 1's over the years They kind of moved on from that this

Right here is a custom Jordan 1 mule it Has a regular Jordan 1 retro sole this Is what you see almost on every single Jordan 1 if you compare it the texture On the midsoles is very different Compared to the new 85s same thing with The height as you can see on the regular Retro it's a lot higher than the 85 Jordan 1 last thing I want to point out Is the stars as you can see on the 85 There's a lot more stars all around it's Pretty compact and tight on the regular Sole as you can see less stars they're Also bigger you can just clearly see a Big difference i can definitely Appreciate Jordan Brand taking the time To make sure the details were on point For the sole now before I move on I am Going to have to get some fresh water And solution for the uppers that's the One thing that sucks about cleaning the Soles first you don't want to use the Grimy old water on the uppers that makes No sense if I was to clean up the uppers First and then move on to the soles I Could use the same water and solution But in this case I got to dump it out And use more solution so keep that in Mind all right so the hardest part is Out of the way all I really got to focus On is the uppers luckily for me the Uppers are in overall great condition For a few different reasons the dry Brushing really made a big difference

Remember prep work is key to any Cleaning make sure you spend your time Using the dry brush or compressor or Both also the sneaker just came out and Wilson did a good job of not trashing These i don't blame him this is a shoe That you don't want to beat up it's such An iconic sneaker all I'm going to do is Just focus on using a soft bristle brush I'm just going to let the brush do all The work brush in a nice circular motion Let the natural oils from the solution Sink into the leather there's still one Thing I got to check for i got to make Sure the red or the black doesn't bleed Like the black toes so on the inside of The sneaker I'm going to do a little bit Of brushing grab the towel and pat it Down dry i'm going to check for any Bleeding if there's no bleeding I can Take care of this cleaning normal if There is I'm going to have to go about It a lot more carefully No bleeding let's get it Leather typically is really easy to Clean up as long as it doesn't bleed Like certain sneakers especially when The leather is just black or red or any Color it gets a lot trickier when it's White cuz there's white stitching Involved that requires more work to Clean but at the end of the day leather Is one of the easiest materials to clean That's good to go i'm basically done

With the sneaker i'm not going to be Cleaning up the insides the insides are In really good condition same thing with The rest of the sneaker it's kind of Overkill at this point however the Insoles do need a quick wipe down i'm Going to grab the soft bristle brush one More time go over it once pat it down Dry same thing with the Shoelace for the shoelace really easy Since it's black just going to go over With the leftover water and solution And now I'm going go to the sink and Rinse the Shoelace now at the rinse let's dry them Real [Music] Quick just put these outside and let it Dry thanks to the sun this only took 15 Minutes to dry after I lace it up and Put the insole inside I'm going to Compare it to an actual 85 Red Jordan 1 And the custom 85 build I did with Max a Couple years Ago all laced up let's compare it to an Actual 85 bread as you can see it's not In brand new condition it's worn and Beat up like most 85 sneakers at this Point this isn't the exact same size the Sneaker I worked on right now was an Eight and a half this I believe is a Nine and a half very close in size but Not the exact same overall they did a Great job recreating the sneaker it's

Not 100% accurate there is some details That are still off it's a little Disappointing cuz they did a lot of Marketing pushing the idea that they're Giving us an exact 85 replica however There is some clear differences keep in Mind though when it comes to the 85 Jordan 1's a lot of them were made in Different factories meaning some of them Use different materials and some of them Look a little bit different than others Some of the 85s are taller than others The color materials use different Materials even the leather is different That being said I'm not exactly sure Which factory they base this sneaker off Of this one I can't even tell you which Factory is from the information is Completely erased on the sock liner but Off the rip one clear difference across The board I think with most factories is The collar area and the height again These are a different size but it's Still pretty close so you can see the Actual 85 is a lot taller the collar Area is a lot taller as well this is one Thing I don't like on the 85 Retro is Way too short some people say they base This one off of MJ's pees again I need To see some actual pictures a good Comparison to know if that's true or not I will show you guys some details that Are on point i'll start with the tongue Tags the Nike Air Font the way it's made

Is almost identical to the 85 same thing With the black material the white foam Material on the back same exact thing For the most part the leather is kind of Hard to tell this one's aged and a lot Stiffer but both contain a nice heavy Thick leather which is on point for 85 Sneakers like I touched on the soles They did a great job recreating this It's on point with the pattern on the Sides the Wings logo also looks really Good looks like it's on point it's Embossed all around the edges sizing Looks good when it comes to the color as You can see on the 85 it's a lot darker Than the retro however when it comes to The red on Chicago's orb breads a lot of Them are just different shades it all Depends on how they were worn how they Aged the materials they use these are All different factors another thing I Already touched on is the laces the Retro is almost identical to the 85s the Pattern and the thickness is on point Now a couple details that are not on Point in my opinion are the swooshes This is more like a leather-like Material on the actual 85s they use a Vinyl material you can hear the Difference similar but not the same it Also feels different this vinyl is more Plastic more hard this is just regular Leather overall the biggest difference When it comes to these sneakers is the

Height and the collar areas i wish it Would have been more on point some People say it is on point in my opinion It could have been better nonetheless They did a great job with this retro by Far this is the best retro bred one to Ever come out now I'm gonna put this to The side and show you guys a comparison Of the shoe that me and Max built a Couple years ago we built this here in The studio from scratch completely the Leather started off as vegetan it's a Good thick leather that we painted Basically all we did was use reference Images and an actual 85 to get this on Point shout out to Max he's the real Engineer behind the sneaker he's been Doing this for a good 5 years way before Nike even touched this retro the height Difference is the biggest noticeable Thing on the one we created it's a lot Higher resembling the actual OG as you Can see in the collars we gave it a nice Age touch just like the lost and found Chicago ones they didn't do that on the New retro that's okay we wanted to make This look like an actual 85 Jordan 1 That's aging we did use vinyl swooshes For the material we made sure that was On point the materials on this sneaker We use thick leather the colors for the Most part on point we matched it to an Actual 85 so the red on this is very Different from the actual retro the one

Thing I do need to go back and fix is The sole this is a regular retro Jordan 1 sole i do need to go in pop this one Off and put an actual 85 retro sole to Complete the look same thing with the Nike Air tongue tag this is more of a Retro tongue tag i need to go in and Source an 85 tag to make this custom on Point overall this custom 85 Jordan 1 That me and Max built here in the studio That took us 3 days holds up well Against this sneaker that Nike created That took him a ton of time and money Now let's go ahead and compare the after To the before super easy stuff you guys To get the sneaker looking back on point Using our essential shoe cleaning kit as You can see on the before all that dust Grime that's all over the sneaker came Right off on the after the black the red Is nice and shiny again it looks healthy The soles back to pure white same thing With the stitching all around the soles You can barely even tell they've been Worn i'm really glad that Nike didn't Use any weird materials on this sneaker That bleed these sneakers are supposed To be built like tanks just like the Original 85 i'm hoping over time they Hold up just as well you can find all Our products including our rejuvenator Essential shoe cleaning kit at Rejuvenator.com use promo code bread20 To save 20% off but it's only good for

The first 20 orders one thing I forgot To point out the sneaker was limited They only released x amount of pairs the One thing they should have done is Numbered them on the inside just like The 2001 bread one retro why didn't they Do that with these 85 retros my guess is They made a lot more pairs than they're Saying let me know in the comments Section what you think this is Vic Almighty i'll catch you guys next time See you guys
