The 5th version of New Balance’s max cushioned shoe receives a number of updates aiming to improve on the popular V4. The biggest of those is a new midsole composition using the same soft foam found in the 1080v13 and a slightly increased stack height. To counter the updates there’s a noticeably wide base to ensure plenty of stability in the shoe.

Hey Tommy from the Run testers in this Video I'm going to doing a long awaited First run review of the New Balance more V5 let's have a look at this little [Music] Thing the New Balance more V5 cost £140 Or $154.99 it weighs 306 G or 10.8 o for Men in a size eight and the drop is 4 mm [Music] The fifth version of new balance's Max Cushion shoe receives a number of Updates aiming to improve on the popular V4 the biggest of those is a new midsole Composition using the same soft foam Found in the 1080 B13 and a slightly Increased stack height to counter the Updates there's a noticeably wide base To ensure plenty of stability in the Shoe the morie 5 also sees modifications To the engineered mesh upper design to Improve both the breathability of the Shoe and the padding around the ankle Collar and tongue and the outso SE is a Complete overhaul with less rubber cover Idge which does leave more exposed Sections of the midsole the mo V5 also Comes in three different width Sizes okay so the fit for me in the mor V5 I'm a size eight in the UK this is a Size eight and is a size 8.5 in the US Uh I found it to be a very comfortable Shoe there's plenty of space around the Side of the foot and before my big toe

Uh I did have one concerned with the Shoe when I first put them on it does Have quite a shallow um uh bit of Material in the for 4 foot uh and I was Worried that I'd get some rubbing on the Top of my toes uh it didn't I didn't Have any issues at all once I started Running in it I think this upper is Quite um stretchy so it actually gives You a little bit more flexibility when You're running in it so I had no Problems at all with the fit uh so I Would definitely stick to my size in This shoe uh there's also um quite a lot Of padding around the uh tongue and Around the ankle collar not loads just Enough for it to be a nicely comfortable Shoe uh it isn't over L padded so um it Definitely feels like a shoe that you Can use for daily runs um and yeah I Would stick to my size in this [Music] Shoe okay so I've been waiting for this Shoe for a while if you watch the Channel you'll know that I constantly go On about the mo V3 and the mo V4 massive Fans of both of those shoes um just Found them to be really really good for Easy runs daily runs uh longer runs all Those sorts of things I really like the Um midsole in those shoes it was nice Balanced very comfortable for easy runs But still wasn't really really soft so That you could still get a nice

Consistent Pace in it and it still felt Very comfortable didn't sap your energy Or anything like that and they both had Nice rolling actions to those shoes as Well the more V5 uh the biggest Difference in the shoe is that the Midsole is a little bit softer um and uh As a result um I was slightly concerned That um it might lose some of the magic That I enjoyed from the more V3 and more V4s um um it's not the case it's just Slightly softer I believe it's using the Same tweaked foam that you get in the 1080 v13 um but actually even though There's loads more of it of that foam in There it doesn't it doesn't feel as soft As the 108 v13 it actually just feels Like there's a little bit of extra Softness in comparison to the mo V4 so It's not a massive change from the mo V4 When it comes to that mid cell foam it's Just a little bit comforter and a little Bit bouncier as well um so when I have Been out running in this so I've Actually done two runs in this shoe now I've done 12K uh easy run at my steady Is pace which is 5 minute kmers I also Took it out today for a park run down on The um Brighton and ho prom uh I wasn't Racing the part run so I took it nice And comfortably I think I ran about 5 Minute 30 km for both of those runs it Just felt really really comfortable um I Think the big thing about the mo V5 is

That the foam even though it's made a Little bit softer it's also quite wide Shoe um slightly wider than the more V4 And as a result it's actually quite a Well balanc shoe when it comes to Stability and that cushioning when you Get a lot of uh Max stack shoes with Quite soft mid cells in there is a risk That you can lose stability in them and For some people that's not a great thing Because you want a bit of stability in There as well the more V5 from those First couple of runs feels really really Stable um but you still get the benefits Of that midell foam uh over the course Of the Run um it doesn't feel like it's Sapping your energy or anything like That it actually feels like there's a Little bit of Bounce in it a little bit Of responsiveness in the ride it's Definitely not a fasu I wouldn't use This for training um anything over easy Runs or longer runs recovery runs that Sort of thing um but there's definitely A little bit more to this shoe than you Might get from some maxda shoes that Have got loads of soft foam in them um It's got a nice uh very subtle rocker in It as well um it's only got 4 mm drop But there is a little bit of a rolling Action to The Rocker which makes it nice And comfortable for um maintaining a Consistent Pace you definitely don't Think about the shoe on the foot that

Much um apart from when you put it on Where you can you do feel a little bit Of extra boun in it so overall over Those first two runs I've really enjoyed It I think this is a really nice Development of the um of the more range Um Range that I've really liked in the Past anyway I was slightly worried that By tweaking uh the midsole in the in the Morvi 5 that I might not like it as much I like it more it's it's it's just Enough extra um cushioning extra bit of Return a tiny bit of energy return just Makes the ride just a little bit more Enjoyable it's still the shoe designed For the same sorts of runs you're going To be using this for easy days recovery Runs that sort of thing um but it just Adds a little bit more Comfort a bit More fun to to the ride um and yeah Definitely enjoyed off those first two Runs uh I probably wouldn't use it for Anything over those sorts of runs so I Wouldn't go and do an interval session In this year or anything it just it's Just quite a big shoe um and you're Definitely not going to get the sort of Energy return you want from uh um a shoe That you're going to be using for Interval sessions you're not going to be Using it for anything other than those Sort of comfy runs that um you just want To go out and take off the miles at the Outsole of the shoe it's a slight

Redesign on the mo V5 it actually seems Like there's less rubber on the outsole In in the main areas of the central Point of the shoe uh didn't find any Issues I've been running both runs I've Done I've actually been in the rain and I didn't find any issues with grip or Anything like that when I was out on the Run uh that midell foone does feel a Little bit more delicate than was on the Mo V5 so I'll have to keep an eye on These sections that aren't covered with The rubber um But after those two runs Feels fine and doesn't seem to be any Signs of rubbing on those um exposed Sections so yeah pretty pretty solid Outsole uh so [Music] Far so my early verdict on the mo V5 I Think it is a nice development on the mo V4 little bit softer tiny bit more eny Return definitely a little bit more Comfortable as well overall I think the Upper is nice modification to it it's Not massively big change to the upper It's just the the way that the Cushioning sits around the hill and and The the tongue is a little bit more Padded um and it does help uh make the Shoe a little bit more comfortable but If you are looking for a shoe just for Those easy comfortable runs those Recovery runs things like that it's one Of the best options out there because

You still get all that Comfort all that Mid foam in there but you still get a Nice level of stability in it as well so It means it's a nice accessible shoe for Basically anyone who's looking for a Good easy day um recovery shoe and uh Yeah I'm definitely going to be using This for a lot more runs as part of my Marath training especially for those Easier sessions because it just ticks a Lot of boxes if you're looking for a Solid comfortable Workhorse cushioned easy trainer um that Just you want to put on when you go out This is the sort of shoe that if I'm Going out for a run if going to do an Hour run two hour run anything like that And it's very much zone two easy Pace Great shoe for it because you're just Going to think it's going to be a shoe That's going to be comfortable and I'm Going to enjoy that run as much as Possible so yeah looking forward to Doing a lot more miles in the more V5 That's it for me on this first run on The more V5 thanks a lot for watching Don't forget to like subscribe click the Little bell and if you go to the ction Below you can find a link to our podcast Which comes out a couple of times each Month thanks a lot for watching catch You next time [Music]
