The Rebel v4 and Mach 6 are two of the best new uptempo, non-plated daily trainers we’ve tested in 2024. They’re built for the same types of runs and even cost the same, making it something of a challenge to pick between the two.

We do though think there are some differences that may influence you going for one over the other. So if you’re sitting there trying to decide whether to go Hoka Mach 6 or New Balance Rebel v4, Testers Nick and Mike have been putting in the running time to help make that decision between two of the great daily trainers a much easier one.

Hey this is M from the ressers this is The Haw Max 6 and this is the new Balance rare bull V for arguably two of The best new versatile uptempo daily Trenders that have launched in 2024 now if you like the look of both These shoes but only have money for one Of them what we're going to do in this Video is give you a better sense of how These two shoes compare that's going to Be myself and Nick and then we'll let You know whether you should go for the Hawx 6 or the New Balance Rebel V4 [Music] So here's the tail of the tape for these Two new uptempo non-plated daily trainer Shoes we'll start with price and both Come in the same £140 in the UK or $140 In the US fitwise the Mac 6 comes in Regular and wide options while it's just The regular fit for the rebel V4 in Terms of weight the Mac 6 is the heavier Of the two shoes while those drops and Stack Heights differ too with the Max 6 Offering a 5mm drop compared to a 6mm One on the rebel both offer mesh uppers While in the midsole Hawker uses an Eva Based super critical foam while the New Balance uses a TPU and Eva based fuel Cell midso both used rubber out SS with Different patterns and as a reminder Neither include a carbon Plates comes to the fit of the two shoes

I've got two different sizes here I've Got a UK 9.5 in the rebel and a uk9 in The Hoka that's a US 9.5 in the Hoka US 10 in the rebel I did this this because With the rebel I sized up because in the Past they have been quite short fitting Shoes I found and they did cramp my toes A little bit in my normal size but Actually New Balance has made the four a More spacious shoe especially in the toe Box it's a lot wider in the toe box in Particular and I think I probably would Have been better off sticking to my Normal running shoe size although I have Been okay going a half size up with the Hoker I was very happy in my normal Running shoe size I like the fit of the Mac line they are quite narrow shoes but I have quite a narrow foot and it fits Me very nicely as a result if you have a Wide foot it might be a bit more of a Problem in which case actually the rebel Might suit you better because it is so Wide these days but I will swimming Around little bit in the upper of the Rebel but not in a way that was a Problem I didn't have any problems of Lockdown or slippage or anything like That so I'll go with your normal running Sh size with both shoes even though I Did end up with a half size up myself in The rebel so in terms of f I've actually Had these shoes in two different sizes I've had the Max 6 in a UK size eight

That is my typical running shoe size That is a size I typically have gone for In previous Mac shoes and then I've Actually had the rebel V4 sent to me in A UK 8 and a half but actually it's Worked out fine it hasn't felt like it's Been too big for me and actually I think Going half a size up in this shoe has Worked well for me I think naturally in Terms of how these two shoes fit the new Ban Rebel V4 definitely feels a little Bit more spacious it's still a kind of Generally narrow fitting shoe but I do Think it opens up a little bit more in The toes and when you go back into the Midfoot as well so if you wanted the More accommodating the two I think maybe The Red Bull V4 gives you a little bit More on that front Max 6 is definitely a More narrow fitting shoe even a m quite Skinny feet so that something to be kind Of mindful of and maybe there might be An argument to go half a size up or play At looking at going half a size up in This issue if you want a little bit more Space something that it's a little bit More accommodating elsewhere lockdown Wise pretty similar I would say similar Kind of levels of kind of thickness in Terms of the tongues the lacing as well So no problem in that point of view Maybe getting a little bit more padding On the Max 6 in terms of the Hill color But it's not a massive amount in it the

Designs are slightly different but I Don't think that massively kind of Dictates the experience of running in These shoes so yeah I would say me going Half size up or having a half size up in The new bie thought has actually worked Out for me the Max 6 going through size Has been fine it is a little bit more on The narrow side and there might be an Argument to go half size up in this shoe So that's kind of what I feel about the Fits on my Experience so these are two shoes I've Really loved running in this year they Are the best of the plate free daily Trainers I would say if we're not really Including the super blast cuz it's so Much more expensive but yeah they're Really fun shoes to run in and you can Do pretty much any kind of run of them You know very enjoyably they are very Cushioned and lightweight shoes and as a Result they do the same job I would say In a rotation they can handle any kind Of run like I say they're lightweight Shoes they will work for lots of Different Runners but they do feel quite Different on the run I would say so the Rebel I think is the softer shoe the Bouncier shoe and it feels very wide on The foot compared to the hoker like it Is a very wide shoe this generation of It which is quite different to the Past Versions of the Rebel now during my

Testing this didn't really take anything Away from the shoe like it doesn't feel As Nimble as past versions but it is Still very light and you can still run Quick in it did enjoy going down the Track and doing a session in the rebel And it gives you quite a neutral base to Go and do fast runs on cuz it is Lightweight you've got a bit of Bounce From the Pham but it's not obviously Giving you that plated propulsion you Get from other shoes it just feels Really nice and light Under Foot even With all that width and that width Becomes a benefit on slower runs and Long runs where you've got more support Here than you had with past versions of The Rebel done a 50 mile in the shoe and It felt very comfortable throughout and I felt you know a lot happier going long In the shoe compared to previous Versions of the Rebel even if those were Maybe feeling a bit more spritely when It come to far stuff yeah I think all Around the changes have been good to the Rebel V4 the Mac you've got that firmer Feeling a slightly more Rocket Ride it's Again very lightweight and very Versatile it's cushioned and comfortable And feels pretty stable at easy paces And then you can up the pace in the shoe As well it's not quite as soft as the Rebel when you're doing that and quite As bouncy but does have a bit of

Response there and I still think it is a Good shoe for running quick in and it's A really good shoe for running long in Did also a 15 mile in the shoe it's Actually pretty much the exact same 1550 Mile in both shoes which was a Progression 15 miles moving from Easy Pace down to around my marathon pace Around 330 pet did actually did a very Similar route with both shoes and really Enjoyed the runs in both shoes I think I Did probably slightly for the feel of The rebel by the end of that run because That foam although it is soft it's not Like going to bottom out or didn't Bottom out over 15 miles at all it did Feel like it was still giving me nice Level of resiliency and bouncing back Well towards the end and just felt like An easy shooter run quick in same was True of the hoker but probably just a Little bit more so with the rebel also Done a short run wearing both shoes at The same time which kind of bore out Those feelings think probably the Biggest thing that came across in that Run was how the rebel feels wider than The mac and this will probably be a big Difference to lots of Runners some People just won't like how big it feels And how wide it feels on the foot and Actually normally I would say that Wouldn't be something I'd like I'd like A narrow shoe as a narrow footed person

It feels more Nimble to me and the hoker Does feel a bit more Nimble as a result But hasn't really been to the detriment Of the Rebel for me in my testing Because it is still so light and it does Still feel pretty Nimble and that Supportive width I think is a benefit in A daily trainer if it's not going to Take away from the speed of the shoe Which I don't think it does so yeah You're definitely getting a softer shoe A slightly bounc your shoe with a rebel Getting a bit more of a rocker with the Hoker it does feel a bit narrower and Nimbler like I say but they both great Shoes for doing pretty much any kind of Run so instant run test and I have run More in the hawx 6 I've done 60k in this Shoe I've just got up to 50K in the new B rail B V4 what I'll say is I've Absolutely loved running in both of These shoes I think they're fantastic I Think in terms of what you're paying for Them they're really good value in terms Of the types of runs that they can work For um I think that's a really important Thing to take away I think you know You're going for either of these shoes You're going to get a very good Experience I think based on my testing Time now in terms of things like the Upper the kind of General fit those kind Of things I think you know they tick all The key boxes they're comfortable I

Think they're supportive and snug in the Right places I think you get good Lockdowns I've had no issues in terms of The kind of upper experience on either Of these shoes then you get into the Midsoles and I think as I said I think The midols are part of what these shoes Can really deliver and how they kind of Deliver that experience now I would say The rebel V4 I definitely do think it Has a bit more of a faster Focus now This is the first time I've run in a Rebel shoe and it definitely is a bounce Shoe is a lively shoe it is not an Erratic shoe but I think there's Definitely a little bit more of a jumpy Kind of you know aggressive feeling in The shoe and definitely ear more of an Emphasis to get you quickly through onto Your toes I think the rocker feels a Little bit more noticeable on the rebel V4 now on the Max 6 I've run in the Previous Mac shoes it's a similar story It's a shoe that you know you're going To want to run more Up Tempo in it's Going to allow you to do that and Absolutely I think you can do that in This shoe it's the heavy of the two Shoes I think that's a thing that the Rebel4 really has in its favor it's a no To be lighter shuee when you put it on And go out and running it Max 6 isn't a Heavy shoe but ultimately is heavier Compared to the rebel V4 from a kind of

Daily trainer point of view but when you Want to run more Up Tempo in it this is Absolutely fine to do that there's a Nice rocker in there as well too I don't Think it's as aggressive feeling as it Is on the Reel V4 and also think you Know you're getting a good level of kind Of kind of Bounce in this uh in the Max 6 compared to the reble V4 I think You're getting a nice kind of responsive Feeling from this Mido as well too what I would say is for me based on my Experience I found it easier to ease off In the Max 6 compared to the rebel V4 if I've gone out and done a progression run And started wanted to start slower and Then Quicken up in that run then I found It easy to do that in the Max 6 where I Think the rebel V4 as soon as you get Out there it just wants you to run a Little bit quicker and I think you can Ease off in it but I do think this is More accommodating at a mixture of Paces Compared to the rebel fif for for me Based on my experience the other thing Also I think is worth talking about here Is the kind of outsold durability or the Durability in general I think outso wise You're getting more rubber on the Max 6 You're getting Less on the rebel V4 but I found gripping and traction has been Absolutely fine I've run in wet Conditions in the reil V4 it's been Absolutely fine so I haven't found that

That kind of reduction kind of rubber You're getting compared to the Max 6 has Been an issue for me I think you're Probably going to get a little bit more Life out of the Max 6 in general and I Think that's why for me makes more sense To be a shoe that you're probably going To want to run easier longer more regly In I almost think that you can do that In the rebel V4 but you probably also Want to kind of save it for your kind of Faster kind of training sessions uptempo Sessions and that's what I think it Really works well for but yeah I think Ultimately as I said I've had really Good experience with both of these shoes I think they can work for the same types Of runs I just think that there's a bit More of a faster Edge on the new boun Rebel V4 whereas absolutely the maxit Can handle that kind of faster stuff More Tempo stuff I would say but I think It can also ease off and feel more Comfortable to do that as Well this is a tough verdict for me Because I do think both these shoes are Excellent and very enjoyable to use They're quite similar in price similar In the jobs they would do similar around I think Sim similar in grip and Durability and all that so it will just Come down to maybe your preference of Ride feel I slightly for the rebel I Think the pham's just got a bit more

About it gives you a little bit more Back especially over longer distances I Really like how light it is I even quite Like the width of the new shoe compared To previous models even though that's Not something I'd expect to be saying But then hoker is also fantastic for Lots of runs I think you may be losing a Little bit when it comes to speed Compared to the rebel for me I just Think maybe the Rebel's got a slight Edge in terms of speed but it's a very Small thing and I would say maybe for Difference different Runners who don't Like the width of the Rebel like the Hoker is the highest ACT shuee but I Think the rebel feels just as cushion to Me on the run and all around yeah really Good shoes not much in it to separate Them I prefer the field of the Rebel Myself but either way you're going to Get a very good good play free daily Trainer here so myct whether you should Go for the new B Rebel V4 or the Haw Max 6 and this is a really difficult one and One of the most difficult ones I've had To do with these kind of comparisons Because I think these are both fantastic Shoes at pretty reasonable prices in Terms of a shoe that you can use for a Lot of different sessions I think you Can race in these shoes I think you can Run short kind of go long in these shoes And they'll definitely deliver a good

Experience across the board I think the Way I kind of look at and how I would Kind of separate the to mainly is that I Think when you are running your fastest In these shoes I think the new B Rebel F4 feels a little bit nicer on that Front it's got that kind of lighter feel In general I think the mids bounce just Feels a little bit more lively I think The rocker just feels a little bit more Aggressive in this shoe and you know Getting you from Hill to toe just feels A little bit more purposeful in the new Match Rebel V4 you can absolutely do That type of running in the max six and I think you know uptempo runs it can Absolutely handle that where I think This probably better is the rebel V4 for Me is when you need to ease off and Maybe run a little bit slower and I Think you know the level of cushioning The way the midell was built and what You're getting here compared to the kind Of geometry and design you're getting The Reb before I think it just lends Itself better to running a little bit Easier in this Sho so if you wanted Something I think you can definitely run Up Tempo definitely ease off at a kind Of slower more comfortable Pace I think This works a little bit better on that Front I think that's something to Consider here I think from kind of a Durability point of view and what I'm

Kind of seeing I feel like the Max 6 I mean the both Durabilities so far have been very good For me I feel like maybe the Max 6 maybe Is going to give you a little bit more Just the nature of the the out soole and The midsole and how that kind of feels Kind of on the run but I think both are Going to be well suitable for kind of Logging a lot of time on your feet in These shoes so for me if if it was me if I was picking I would be going just the Rebel V4 I just like it a little bit More on that quicker stuff and despite It not being as comfortable running Those kind of ease mods it can do that As well too which I think with the Max 6 I definitely think built that Up Tempo Stuff and when you want to ease off it Definitely feels a lot more comfortable To do that and you've got a bit more in Terms of that Alo grip I think as well Too so yeah that's my kind of take on Whether you should go for the Max 6 or The rebel V4 okay so that is our Comparison video and how the hog Max 6 Compared to the new B Rebel V4 now if You got any questions about we've talked About in this video then do let us know In the comments as always like And Subscribe hit that little bell to find Out about latest videos and yeah we'll See you for the next run testers Video
