Hello and welcome to run testers my name Is Nick and this is our full review of The on cloud Monster Hyper so the cloud Monster hyper is a New addition to the cloud monster line From on it's designed to be more of a Super trainer than the classic Cloud Monster and that's mainly down the Addition of On's pea foam into the Midsole it's a really expensive shoe it Cost £210 or $220 Weighs in at 270 G or 9.5 o in my UK Size 9 and it's a fairly High stack shoe It's got a drop of 6 mm and a stack Heite of 37.5 at the heel 31.5 at the For foot so it's a lighter shoe than the Classic Cloud monster with a higher Stack and that's because you've now got A dual density Mido there's On's Helen HF foam under the four foot of the shoe A big chunk of the peber foam seen in The on cloud boom Echo racing shoe and Then you've got cloudtech as well at the Back and at the bottom of the shoe the Classic onp pods are still there to Quite large extent with just that big Chunk of PE foam under the for foot you Haven't got a speed board in this shoe Unlike most of on shoes cuz they say They want to make it more designed for Using everyday daily training shoe not As stiff as things like the cloud Meco But then on has put a speed board in Lots of daily trainers before so it's a

Slightly unusual Choice there given that This is meant to be a very versatile Daily trainer that can certainly handle Faster runs got a lightweight woven mesh Upper nice amount of padding around the Achilles pretty thin tongue pretty Standard on upper really it's a Reasonably roomy shoe all around and Then you've got the podded out so which Is another trademark of on with a Groove At the back for catching rocks you've Got good 4ot coverage of rubber and a Couple of big chunks at the heel it's Quite a thick layer and I think it will Be pretty durable the grip hasn't always Been the best for us with this Shoe fit then in in testing I ran in a UK and a half which is my regular Running shoe size in on running shoes And overall I'd say the fit here is Pretty good and certainly on the roomy Side into this toe box I get a good lock Down across the top of the foot and I Quite like the wrapping tongues that Help getting that lock down without any Lace pinch keeps the foot feeling nice And secure in this area the heels hold Really well I had no slipping or issues With that at all the toe box has quite a Lot of length in it and there's room Across the top of the toes so there's a Big volume here which is good for long Distances in the shoe and overall I Would recommend going true to size so

The fit for me and the oncloud Monster Hyper uh I'm size eight in the UK this Is size eight um I did find it to be Quite a roomy shoe there's definitely Quite a bit of space in the 4 foot and Around the side of the 4 foot so quite a Of wiggle room if you like that I've got Fairly average width feet so um I didn't Necessarily need the extra space but I Definitely didn't have any issues with Them at all I'd stick to my size in These I found to be very comfortable With uh plenty of room in there but not Too much that I couldn't get a good lock Down fit fit's been okay for me in my Normal running shoe size got a uk9 here Which is a us99.5 it's usual size I have With on I think it's a bit roomier than Maybe some of the older generation shoes But I think it's fine for me in terms of The amount of space I have perfectly Good hold around the heel and midfoot as Well so yeah fit all good for me in in My normal running shoe Size so I have mentioned in a lot of Previous videos that there aren't that Many on shoes that I've really warmed to Over the years occasionally something Crops up that I really like the oncloud Surface 7 I really enjoyed running in I Thought it was a very comfortable Enjoyable daily shoe um the oncloud Monster I thought was a nice step in the Right direction for on because

Previously a lot of their shoes had been Quite firm and I like a soft shoe I like A lot of cushioning in my shoes so um This it's really interesting shoe to be Honest um and uh the mix of materials in The midsole makes for quite an uh novel Ride when I first put these on um my First thought of them was these feel Quite uh like there's a bit of energy Return in them they feel like there's Something more to these shoes that I Wasn't really expecting from an on shoe Um I've done about 60k in the shoe so Far and that has varied it's mainly been Easier runs but I have done an interval Session in these as well see how it Performs when I'm running faster um and What I found is that when you first put Them on they do feel like there's a bit Of eny return in them and they Definitely don't feel like um a Traditional daily shoe uh especially one That comes from on um so it does feel to Me like there's a little bit more Versatility in this that new uh peber Midol phone that sits in the foref foot Does offer a little bit of bounce that Is over and over of what you'd expect From the oncloud monster um but what I Did find is that it It doesn't seem to last uh all the time So I went out and did uh that interval Session in these when I first picked up The P in them I thought there was a

Little bit more to this shoe over the Course of the session I think it it sort Of dropped for me and um that initial Feeling that there was something more to This shoe dis disappeared a little bit Um it's definitely not a versatile shoe For me when it comes to those interval Sessions I think you'd be all right Doing Tempo efforts in this at Max um But there's definitely not a shoe that's Designed for running really fast in Especially picking up the pace like 5K Pace or 10K Pace uh it just it just Can't do that um when you're running Easy sessions in this so I've gone up to About 20K in an a longer run um at my Easy pace which is about 5 minute 20 Minute kilometers um and what I found is That it's fine it does the job but it The weird mix of mids in here you got This Firma midsole at the back and then The peber midsole at the the front um Sometimes when you land on it it feels Quite good other times it just doesn't Feel like it's really doing anything and I think it really comes down to the PACE That you're running in it so when I'm Doing um easier sessions when I'm Slugging it out a bit and I'm not really Moving uh rolling forward at a faster Pace that back Mido section doesn't Really seem to do a lot for me it feels A little bit dull um and yeah doesn't Really deliver what I want from an easy

Run shoe I like softness I like a bit of Engry return I like a nice rolling Action that just keeps me going I don't Think this shoe has got all of lot of That I think um it's sweet spot is Probably those slightly faster daily Efforts where you're going more towards Your um uh Tempo Pace things like that Where you're you're hitting that peber Midell phone at the front a little bit More but um it's it's it's minimal I Don't think it's really it's a difficult Shoe to categorize based on how it's Been built because I don't think there Is real sweet spot for this shoe I think It's trying to do a few different things And not really achieving anything um in In a particularly impressive way having Said that I haven't disliked running in This shoe I think it's a very Comfortable shoe to wear I definitely Could use it for all of my daily Sessions and be absolutely fine but I Think there's a lot of other shoes out There that do that and do it better and Do it a lot cheaper so um the only thing I'd say about this is that the outsole Um there is a lot of grip on it I did Find it quite slippy I've been running Out in the wet in Brighton quite a lot And there's been a lot of inclines and Declines and I found that it's quite a Hard um grip on the outsole and it did Feel very slippy at some points so I

Could feel my foot moving a little bit Um as I was hitting the ground and Pulling back off again which I didn't Like um so I do think there's a bit of An issue with the grip on this um and I Definitely would be aware of that if You're running in the wet a lot so in Testing I've done a good 50k Plus in the Oncloud Monster hyper I've done that at The usual range of Paces lots of easy a Good selection of fast or interval Sessions and a mix of hourong plots Right up to 90minut efforts where I've Had some marathon pace thrown in that's Mostly been on road but I have done some Light off-road too to test the stability Now where to start with this shoe it's Lighter than it looks it looks like a Big hulking thing but it actually feels Lighter on the foot there's quite a good Disappearing Comfort overall it's Largely unfussy and an easy shoe to put On lace up and run for all of my runs It's taken quite a while to warm up this Midsole and I've spent the first few Miles being quite aware of these Cloudtech elements that start off I Think a bit rigid and the footed Landing Here is quite soft from the off and if You like plenty of you'll get that here But in those early miles there's a Stiffness to the main cut outsole unit From the cloudtech that initially turn Returns quite quickly but it doesn't all

Feel 100% natural there's a slight Disconnect to it and then at some point Every time I do it the ride seems to Open up and soften up or smooth out even Further dropping into a more even Balanced clip along sensation with a Good amount of spring from the wedge of Foam here now there's not as much of a Snappy roll or instant response I think As you get from the cloud eclipse The Landings though are softer than the firm Rocket Ride of the original cloud Monster and I think the hyper here is Much better than the slightly flaccid New Cloud monster ride there's a Softness here but it's not squidgy and Ponderous and overall I find them like a Really happy cruising shoe that has a Little bit of energy as well and that Supports everything in my runs from easy To uptempo Paces quite nicely it's the Kind of shoe I might consider for Running something like the Berlin Wall 100 mile ultra which is largely on road But you want some space up front you Want a bit of energy you want something That combines good con cushion Protection with some liveliness Under Foot that's not overly aggressive now You get none of the road coming up Through this shoe on longer runs but the Big wide platform that you've got here I Think still has good stability and I Describe them as having a cradled

Reliable Landing would I use them for Out and out faster efforts well I I Think they can do that and they can Offer that but I wouldn't choose them Over the lighter and punch your shoes Like the Endorphin speed 4 or the Hooka Max 6 h i I think you might even be Better off hunting down a deal on Something like a sock the Endorphin Pro 3 to take you through your faster Training and then you can even use that Shoe on race day as well and you're Going to be paying about the same now Every time I run in the on shoe I wonder If on is trying too hard to make the Legacy Cloud elements you've got here Work with this wedge of foam instead of Taking this foam in here which is Actually quite good and using in a Regular midsole geometry could you get a Lighter shoe if you did that as well Then that has more top end potential Better overall range and boosted Versatility I think maybe i' run about 55k in the cloud Monster hyper using it For a mix of training runs during high Mileage Marathon weeks I think this is The ideal situation for this shoe cuz I Do think it's a shoe that leans towards High mileage Runners who are looking for A comfortable protective shoe that can Handle a range of daily training so at The end of the first run uh you know I Was pretty unconvinced by the price of

The shoe but I had quite enjoyed it by The end of that run I did think it was Reasonably comfortable and you had kept My legs fresh on a recovery run in a you Know in a tough week of training since Then I think I'd like the shoe a little Bit less each time I'm running it if if I'm honest like the ride just isn't all That good and there is that nice chunk Of peber foam in the mid obviously but There's still loads of cloud Tech and It's just still over the same slightly Dull heavy feeling ride you get with Lots of on shoes it's pretty firm at the Start of runs it does soften up in the Kind of the second half of runs but Still doesn't feel exactly springy or Anything like that like you do get with Some super trainers and it just doesn't Feel like a very verstile shoe to me Like this isn't a shoe I'd want to go And do any kind of fast running and Really like didn't mind cruising around It like I say protects your legs pretty Well you can run long in it but I don't Think I'd be picking up the shoe for Like Tempo runs that kind of thing and You know there are lots of vertile shoes Available and we're not even talk about The price yet but there is the price as Well and it can't really do lots of Things for that price it's a shoe that Has the rare and unwelcome quality of Feeling heavier than it is on the run it

Feels like a bottom heavy shoe and it Doesn't feel like it's a very light and Sprightly shoe there are 270 G shoes There feel a lot lighter than this put It that way it just feels like a cushion Shoe rather than a versatile daily Trainer and I just don't think you're Getting a whole amount back from that Midsole even with that phone in the for Foot I think it's kind of okay you can Go into your runs and it protects your Legs pretty well I don't think you're Getting a particularly exciting ride I Think peber foam in the m is very much Muted by the cloudtech still don't Really love the way the Potted outsole Feels come into contact with the ground I prefer like the Fuller outsoles of the Uh rocket shoes like the cloud Surfer And the cloud Eclipse that roll you Through quite nicely you don't get that Feeling here it's not just not my kind Of ride I guess it's a little bit firm It feels a bit disconnected it doesn't Feel very Lively or bouncy and it Doesn't feel very lightened Nimble or Anything like that just feels like a Cushion shoe that will protect the legs Without any real extra quality to it Which you would expect from a shoe with This big peber chunk in the mids so it Doesn't really feel like it's bringing Much in the end also say the grip is not Always amazing on this shoe I've been

Running in it you can see in some muddy Conditions and wet roads and that kind Of thing it's it's not been terrible but It it is a little bit slipperier than Other shoes and again with a big shoe Like this I always would rather have a Good outsole if you're going to use it For a lot of training runs so yeah Overall not the best all round run test In the Shoe verdict on the hyper then and it's A hard no for me on this shoe Fundamentally because of the price I'm Not 100% convinced I'd ever want to pay £210 or $220 for a daily trainer but if You're trying to charge me that the shoe Would better blow me away I'd want it to Be so good that I just can't Overlook it Among all the other cheaper options out There and while there's plenty to like About the oncloud Monster hyper this Shoe isn't that good it's certainly not Significant enough of a step up from Shoes like the soccer and dorphin speed 4 the Nova blast 4 the HX 6 the Puma Velocity Nitro the list of shoes that Cheaper and equal or better than this Shoe is very very long indeed added to The fact that on very rarely discounts Shoes and it's not even likely that You'll find this in a sale at some point Later in the year and be able to pick it Up for like 160 quid had they made the Shoe 180 pounds I might be able to give

It a much stronger recommendation Because it's actually quite a good shoe Overall but as it is I'm not a fan of Brands pushing daily shoes over the 200 Mark not unless they guarantee me at Least 1,000 miles in them or epic Performance I don't think any Sho is Going to be that good so while the ride Of the hyper is pretty good and I've Enjoyed the shoe overall I did enjoy my Miles in it I think you better off Buying something else even the cloud Eclipse I think will do a similar job And you can save yourself a chunk of Money so it's a shame but overpriced for Me so simple verdict on the oncloud Monster hyper would be to say that if The shoe was 150 quid or 140 quid I Still wouldn't be recommending buying it And the fact it is £210 or $220 means It's you know it's just not something I Would say go and buy I don't think it's The most exciting shoe to use I don't Think it's particularly versatile I Think it's okay as a shoe you'd M around In for easy miles but you know there are Shoes I'd rather be doing that in and It's incredibly expensive for what it is So this is one to avoid I think in my Eyes I think they're definitely better Shoes from on themselves like the cloud Eclipse and the cloud Surfer and there Certainly an array of shoes from other Brands I'd be picking up ahead of this

If you are looking for that super Trainer Vibe but and you're willing to Spend a lot of money the atic super Blast is a little bit cheaper than this Shoe actually does deliver a very bouncy Incredibly fun and vertile ride and it Can do everything that's the point of a Shoe like this like you get that big Wedge of foam in the super blast and It's just but it's still a very light Shoe and it feels light and you can go And do track reps in it but you can also Run very long and Easy in it and you Know if you are going to spend such a Large amount of money on a super trainer You want it to actually deliver in terms Of performance super than the super Blast does even then you can get cheaper Shoes with plates in like the Endorphin Speed 4 that will cover a range of runs Really well and actually even looking at Plateless shoes I'd pick up the HX 6 or The New Balance Rebel V4 ahead of the Cloud Monster hyper for sure they are Lighter nimbler shoes that are still Comfortable they feel great for Speedwork they're still comfortable for Easy runs they just have a more Enjoyable ride because the materials in The Mido just feel a bit better to me so Yeah like I say the simplest way to say This is if this shoe was a lot cheaper It still wouldn't be one I'd go and buy And it is really expensive so certainly

Isn't one I'd be recommending buying It's a bit of a shame but I think on Hopefully can work out how to integrate This PE foam into its training range in A better way maybe start using things Like the Rockers they have on the shoes And move away a bit more from the Cloudtech phone which I'm not a huge fan Of if you do love this phone I guess With the addition of P it might feel Even better but yeah I'm just not a huge Fan of it and I didn't really enjoy the Run test in this shoe okay so my verdict On the oncloud Monster hyper uh the Other guys will definitely speak about The cost of the shoe I think that it's a Shoe that it's got some novel ideas I Like the fact that On's trying some new Things out I like the fact that they're Using a new midell fo because I've never Been a massive fan of on midell phes so I think it's got some interesting Elements to it I think the main problem Is that it's it's trying to do a lot of Things and on shoes do often try to do a Lot of things and if you read the Marketing material that on on their Products it tends to say that they they Can do uh many many different types of Runs I don't think this really excels in Any area you've got this peber mids at The front which designed to run a bit Faster you've gone back to the helium Phone at the back which isn't really

That nice for doing easy runs so overall I think it's a difficult shoe to really Go for and for the price um I it's just It just doesn't do enough for for the Price for the price that it it's got um Obviously the super blast is one that is Doing a similar thing to this shoe it's A do- it all trainer it's got great Energy return it's got a lovely rolling Action um this is probably trying to do The same thing as super blast but isn't Really doing any of it particularly well Whereas the super blast does all of it Really well um and there's loads of Other shoes as well so in my rotation I Would probably instead of this shoe use Use the New Balance Rebel V4 um so offin Speed 4 all the ones that the other guys Are probably going to going to mention And they are um not really cheaper than This shoe and you're getting the same Same sort of thing that you're going to Get from this but just in a better way Uh so yeah I think that um if you're a Massive on fan and you like the look of The shoe seen a lot of comments on the Previous video we did where people said They really like the design of the shoe Yeah fine um so obviously there's a lot Of interesting design El to this I think If you're looking for a solid daily Trainer that has some versatility I just Think it's there's just way better Options out there at the moment um I

Don't think it's a bad shoe I just think That it's punching far above its weight For what it can do um based on the Price that's our review of The oncloud Monster hyper please do let us know what You think in the comments below like Subscribe ring the little bell and we'll See you next time
