Hey people welcome to the Run testers And in this video we are looking at two Of On's big cushion daily trainers we've Got the oncloud Monster hyper and the Oncloud monster 2 now the cloud Monster Hyper drops in as On's entry into the Super trainer Stakes it's lighter than The cloud monster 2 packs a bigger stack And sports an interesting new midsole Setup that's all designed to boost the Comfort energy but does the hyper Deliver enough to command a hefty Premium or is the cloud monster 2 the Better option we'll find out in our Oncloud Monster hyper versus oncloud Monster 2 head-to-head review [Music] First up quick details then the oncloud Monster hyper midou stack comes in at 372 Ms in the hill 31 1/2 m in the 4 Foot the cloud monster 2os packs 2 and 1/2 mil less stack across the shoe with 35 Ms in the hill 29 Ms in the four foot And both shoes Rock a 6 mil drop on the Scales the hyper weighs in at 9.1 Oz or 258 G in a UK men's 8 and a half Slightly lighter than the cloud monster 2 at 10.5 o or 297 G now the oncloud Monster hyper has a super shoe price tag At $220 or £210 in the UK the oncloud Monster comes in cheaper at just shy of $180 or £ 170 in the UK let's give you a quick shoe Comparison then well the hyper swells

The growing ranks of the max cushion Super trainers it's now the biggest Snack shoe in On's lineup packing a Wedge of high energy peber and an Eva Helen cloudtech foam cradle surprisingly There's no plate here not carbon or Nylon the cloud monster 2 has a more Traditional helium foam Cloud Tech Elements with a dual density foam setup And the biggest clouds we've seen in an On running shoe there's also a reshaped Nylon blend speedboard plate in the Middle of the midsole to provide greater Efficiency from that touchdown to toe Off up top the cloud Monster hyper has Excellent engineered woven uppers with Plenty of flex while the monster 2 also Has relatively stretchy and breathable Uppers with a few more perforations in There to boost the breathability both Shoes pack medium to Plush padded heel Colors so the cloud monster 2 colors Offer a shade more padding both shoes Use flat wrapping tongues that create Good disappearing Comfort on the foot There's a touch more structure to the Tongues on the cloud Monster hyper Offering more protection against lace Pinch I also love the attention to Detail you get on the cloud Monster Hyper with these kind of rubberized Laces that stay locked flip these shoes Over and the shoes share quite a similar Out soole rubber design with pads on all

The key impact areas the cloud Monster Hyper grip pattern is slightly thicker In places but there's not much to choose Between these shoes here durability grip And protection is about the same for Both Shoes comes the fit of the two shoes I've very happy with my normal running Shoe size got a uk9 here which is a US 9.5 with on it's the same size I've got Across the on range and they always tend To fit me pretty well I find their Sizing fairly consistent got enough room In the toe box without it being too Spacious up there they're fairly wide And as someone with a narrow foot they Are quite roomy on me but it's not Something that's a problem at all good Hold around the heel and midfoot without Any Achilles irritation or anything like That so yeah I was very happy in my Normal running shoe size with both of The cloud monsters so let's give you a Quick comparison on fit then first up We've got the oncloud monster 2 there is A nice thumbs width of distance to the End of the toe box there's loads of Clearance across the top of the toe box And these uppers really Flex for an Overall that's a really sort of volumous Very roomy toe box even back here into That kind of toen knuckle section into The little toe knuckle there's a lot of Room here it's not tight it's kind of

Holds okay But there's lots of room to flex and Move here I found overall the lace lock Down here was a bit looser a little bit Less secure than you had in the oncloud Monster hyper if you go back into the Heel collar you got these medium padded Heel collars with this Kickback they Hold the heel nicely don't lace it down Right there can be a little bit of Slipping here it's not the most secure Fit but I've had no problems with that And overall in these ones I would Recommend going true to size when you Then pop up the oncloud Monster hyper as You can see there is also a very very Good amount of room got another thumbs Width here you've also got nice roomy Toe boxes with a decent amount of Flex For your toes the one sort of major Difference I would say I mean these kind Of crumple a bit so you can see there is Sort of room to move and these shoes Have area and kind of volume when you Come back here into the sort of tou area It's a little bit more snug across here So the fit is just a little bit tighter And a bit more secure back there the Laces also hold up a bit better I mean I've not done them properly tight here But this lacing structure holds a lot More securely than you'll find on the Oncloud monster 2 back into the heel Collars and you got a similar amount of

Padding and I would say overall with Sort of similar amount of hold and Security into the heels uh the other Thing you got the flat wrapping tongues Here that come up a little bit higher on The oncloud Monster hyper but if you're Talking about both of these shoes Overall I'd recommend going true to Sizing Both so I've run over 50k in both of These two shoes and is F say I'm not a Huge fan of either of them I for me they Both fit pretty squarely into the Category of easy daily trainers the kind Of shuee I'd only really use for fairly Easy efforts like the cloud Monster Hyper probably has a little bit more About it because you've got that paback Section under the forefoot but I still Found it a fairly clunky shoe and I Don't really love the rider either of Them I find them quite firm fairly Clunky I just this cloudtech stuff on The bottom of on shoes just isn't going Away and I'm just not really a huge fan Of it you've got a slight Improvement to The ride as you roll through onto the Forefoot with the cloud moner hyper Because you've got that better foam Under the forefoot but actually It's the cloudtech pods that feel like The're dominant part of the midell for Me as a heel Striker and I just didn't Really enjoy that much The Ride Like the

Cloud Master hyper I will say as a shoe For long runs and churning out lots of Mileage marathon training it does feel Better as a run goes on but it still Doesn't feel amazing by the end of a run There still shoes that I would take over It at that stage but yeah the start the It can feel very clunky the ride does Improve a little bit I do think it's a Pretty comfortable protective shoe that You can log a lot of miles in and it Would be a good option for churning out Those miles during marathon training but Certainly lots of options from other Brands I would find a bit better I do Prefer it though to the standard Cloud Monster the cloud monster 2 which I Think is worse than the original cloud Monster which was a lighter shoe that Had a little bit more about it more Enjoyable ride to it it would tick over A bit more nicely this feels a little Bit clunkier to me it's the kind of isue Again that you can knock out those easy Miles in it is pretty protective it's Comfortable despite being quite a firm Ride so if you don't like very soft and Mushy shoes there's something to the Cloud monster I guess but even then it Wouldn't be one I'd pick out of a crowd Really I find just both of them don't Really add much joy my runs which is What I really tend to look for if I'm Looking for a cushion shoe to knock out

A lot of miles in I want to enjoy those Miles and I want a shoe that I look Forward to pulling on and neither of Those really tick that box for me had Higher hopes for the cloud Monster hyper Because of the uh you know the more Exciting setup you have here and indeed That very high price but it didn't Really liven up the runs for me and Although it does feel better as runs go On it still doesn't really match options From other brands but it is a more Enjoyable ride than the cloud monster 2 Which I think just feels quite dead Throughout because of this uh this Cloudtech mid Soul foam here which I Think we'll probably see a little bit Less of in onu going forward but you Know some point there'll probably be an All pack version of the cloud Monster Hyper and that kind of thing but for now Both the shoes didn't really float my Boat during the run test now in testing I covered close to 100 miles in the Oncloud Monster hyper and close to 60 m In the oncloud monster 2 around the Usual range of Paces plenty of easy some Faster interval sessions couple of 90minut efforts with some marathon pace Thrown in I also did a 9h hour 55M Ultra At the comrades marathon in the hyper I Ran mostly on road with some light Off-road miles to test the stability as As well now overall both these shoes

Have good step- in Comfort the oncloud Monster 2 is the we to your shoe but I Wouldn't say there's much to choose Between them when they're actually on The foot the cloud Monster hyper Actually though it's lighter I think Feels like more shoe on the foot it's Not heavier but just more shoe when it Comes to the ride the major difference Balls down to the interplay of that Extra wedge of peber in the midfoot of The cloud Monster hyper which makes for A more immediate return than you get With the cloud monster 2 when you hit it Now some Runners found the original Cloud monster too firm too stiff too Rocked for a Max stack shoe and the Cloud monster 2 is definitely tuned Notably softer as a response to that the Result I find is a more cushion dry but It's also a little bit more flaccid and Less energetic than the original Monster Now that's fine if all you want is easy Day protection but the cloud Monster Hyper almost attempts to balance that Cushioned feel with a bit more punch From the peber wedge and what you get I Think is an equally if not more Cushioned ride only the cushioning Doesn't collapse as much and it responds Much quicker particularly when you're Landing mid to 4ot where you're going to Engage that peber wedge a lot more but There's still softness here in the hill

If you're Landing further back too so You're not losing that Comfort overall And the hyper is generally a happy Cruising shoe I think with a little bit More energy though maybe not what you'd Expect from a so-called super trainer Now the cloud monster 2 is a good solid Easy day shoe that just maybe lacks some Of the upper Pace versatility that you Get with the hyper but it's going to Come to choice on price here I think So picking between these two shoes it's Quite tricky for me cuz I'm not a huge Fan of either I'd say both of them I Would use just for cranking out miles I Don't think they're particularly verse Out either of them the hyper is a little Bit more so than the Cloud moner 2 but It's not a shoe that I'd be picking up To do a variety of runs in both of them Are good for easy runs long runs and That's kind of it you know I prefer the Ride of the cloud Monster hyper but it's Got the much higher price tag it's you Know it's a really crazy price tag I Think for this shoe and that means I Wouldn't pick it basically like if I'm Just going to go knock out some runs and Either of these shoes I might enjoy Running a cloud monster 2 a little bit Less but it is a lot less in terms of Price even though it's not cheap itself So I would pick the on on cloud monster 2 of these two shoes because of that but

If money is No Object the cloud masterer Hyper is a better shoe but overall I'd Certainly be looking at options from Other brands for your easy miles or more Versatile shoes if you're looking for a Super trainer even the atic super blast Is you know comparable in price or you Can look at play to choose like the Endorphin speed 4 when you're comparing It to the cloud Monster hyper against The cloud monster 2 you can just get a Really nice cushion shoe like the pummer Velocity Nitro to for a lot less money And that's just a more enjoyable ride All around so yeah think the cloud Monster hyper is the better shoe I'd get The cloud monster 2 cuz it's better Value here my verdict in the cloud Monster hyper and the cloud monster 2 You've got two big stack highly cushion Daily trainers that offer rby fits and Happily reduce the road impact making For good long mile cruising potential in Both of the shoes in terms of Pure Performance choosing between them I Think will largely come down to whether You want a bit more softness in which Case the cloud monster 2 is probably Your best bet or a bit more punch in Which case the cloud Monster hyper is a Small step up thanks to that peber Insert if you want Max maximum Versatility the cloud Monster hyper Probably handles faster better than the

Cloud monster 2 while still offering Enough cushion protection for most Runners needs on slower and easier Efforts but and there is a big but You've got to consider the price when You're thinking about these two shoes And the cloud Monster hyper drops in at A big premium it carries a super trainer Price tag without really offering the Super trainer performance and if you're On a budget I think the oncloud monster 2 constitutes much better value if you Want something even snappier though more Responsive but firmer and less cushioned I definitely recommend looking at the Oncloud monster first gen I think that's Still worth the look for a slightly Different ride so they you have it that Has been our head-to-head between the Oncloud Monster hyper and the oncloud Monster 2 we hope you found it helpful Don't forget to like subscribe and ring The bell for more great run testers Videos when they land if you're Interested in a review of these two Shoes I'm going to pop them up on the Channel right now go and have a watch Otherwise thanks for stopping by and we Hope to see you again soon on the Run Testers happy running people
