Hi people welcome to the run testers and In this video we are putting the new OnCloud Surfer 2 up against the Nike Pegasus 41 these are two daily trainers Both neutral and nicely cushioned with a Softer edge they are designed for easy Everyday runs with a smidge of Versatility in there too and potentially Gears for some runners to tackle up to Mid-tempo runs so which one of these is Best well we've clocked the miles to Find out and you can find out as well Watch on for our OnCloud Surfer 2 versus Knight Pegasus 41 [Music] Headto-head quick details first then When it comes to stack height the OnCloud Surfer 2 packs 32 ms in the heel 23 ms in the foreoot for a 9 mil drop The Nike Pegasus 41 comes in at 37 ms in The hill 27 ms in the foroot for a 10 Mil drop the Cloud Surfer 2 weighs in at 9.1 oz or 258 grams in a UK men's 8 and A half test shoe the Pegasus 41 is Heavier at 10.5 ounce or £298 gram on Price the Cloud Surfer 2 lands £150 or £160 the Nike Pegasus 41 is £130 or £140 let's give you a quick shoe Comparison then and both these shoes are A little lower in stack than some of the Bigger dailies that we're now seeing There's something a little bit more Traditional about both of them the lower Stack cloud surfer 2 has a midsole
That's has on's cloudtech phase design Where the cloud elements here collapse In sequence a bit like dominoes and then They release as you roll through each Step there's a more pronounced rocker Compared to the Nike shoe interestingly Unlike the cloud Eclipse and the Cloud Monster 2 there's no speedboard plate in This shoe that's used in on shoes to Kind of stabilize the midsoles that has Been left out here to soften the ride Versus the older generations of the shoe When you're moving over to the Nike Pegasus 41 meanwhile this has a bigger Stack of React X foam it's got some air Zoom units under the forefoot and the Heel to add a bit more pop to the ride It's quite a chunk more foam under the Heel than you're going to get for the CL From the Cloud Surfer there's also less Rockering it's got a more traditional Kind of midsole shape it's a bit flatter Overall up top the OnCloud Surfer has an Engineered mesh upper those are quite Thick but soft and premium feeling nice And flexible the Pegasus also has an Engineered mesh upper that offers a nice Flexible sort of roomy fit both shoes Have medium padded heel collars and Tongues the Nike heels are a little Narrower compared to the round sculpted Collars on the Encloud Surfer 2 and the Pegasus tongues are also gusseted while The Cloud Surfers aren't if you flip
These shoes over both shoes have a Pretty generous covering of outsole Rubber for grip and durability rubber is Quite thick on the on separated into Pads on all the key impact zones that Allows the sole to flex a bit as well But also to protect the key areas the Pegasus 41 also has a generous covering Here of outs but it's also got these Little sort of studs on it to boost the [Music] Grip so it comes to the fit of the two Shoes I've got a UK 9 in both with on That's a US 9.5 it's a US 10 in the Nike So as you expect got a little bit more Room perhaps in the Nike in terms of Length i think it's the roomier upper in General actually as well it's got a Slightly wide design very accommodating And comfortable upper on the Nike same Is true of the on though and the way it Hugs the foot I do think is nice it's Nice about being oppressive like they've Both got lots of padding here and maybe That'll be a bit of a problem in the Heat but I've always really liked the Way on uppers are designed i do think They are snug but comfortable and Stretch with the foot and allow it to Move and breathe quite well perfectly Good upper on the Nike though so no Concerns really with the fit of either Of them i would stick to your normal Running shoe size if you've used these
Brands before and yeah lots of Comfortable padding all around on fit Then I ran in a UK and a half in both Shoes that's a size I'd usually run for An on shoe and a Nike Pegasus shoe the Cloud Surf has a good stepping comfort Everything feels wrapped and held Without being restricted i found it easy To get the shoe locked in the heels held Well and there's just about enough room In the toe box along with a bit of flex From the mesh uppers good disappearing Fit overall that lets you get on with Business i found the fit was great on The Nike Pegasus 412 there's balance Comfort hold without excessive plushness From the medium padded heel collars and Tongues there's plenty of flex in the Uppers too on par I would say with the Encloud Surfer 2 though some might want A little more structure and support when You're doing some of the sort of tighter Turn stuff in the Pegasus but for long Straight miles on even asphalt the Pegasus 41 offer easy roomy unrestricted Feel and I'd recommend going true to Size in both of these shoes So I've run around 55 60k in both of These shoes using them mostly for pretty Relaxed daily training runs at easy Paces i have done some more progression Style stuff moving to faster paces long Runs and I think I did one short workout In the Nike Pegasus 41 as well but
Mostly using them for those daily get Out and about runs that just build up Your mileage and your fitness and they Both do a pretty good job of that i Think they both do a similar job in General they're fairly versatile fairly Lightweight cushioned shoes that could Work as your only shoe if you are Someone who sticks to one shoe but I use Both these shoes in combination with Faster shoes to cover off things like Speedy workouts and racing but yeah they Do a similar job I think just in a Different way they've got different ride Feel these two shoes the Pegasus you've Got the more traditional silhouette that Higher drop style that Nike is sticking To when most brands are probably moving A bit more towards lower drop and more Rocker shoes the Pegasus 41 is a high Drop shoe without much of a rocker so You kind of snap through as a result it Also means you got a really cushioned Heel on the shoe and that's very Noticeable as a heel striker it's very Comfortable at the heel there but quite A thin forefoot compared to a lot of Other shoes on the market i think the Foam in the midsole is a pretty good one It gives you a little bit of energy Return and the design of the shoe does Move you onto your foroot pretty quickly But there I think it is a bit flat and Lifeless compared to lots of shoes
You're not getting a lot of energy Return from the foam under the toes Doesn't really curve up and push you on Your way either so it can have quite a Flat feel all around but it is certainly A pretty comfortable shoe the on in Contrast is a much more rocket shoe so With this Cloudtech phase design the Whole midsole is really geared up to Moving you through your foot strike and Onto your toes and it does work very Well it's got a very smooth and Comfortable ride it's not maybe not Quite as soft and noticeably cushy at The heel as the Nike where you have got That massive wedge of foam but you do Notice the extra foam and comfort under The foroot of the OnCloud Surfer 2 and You do also notice definitely that Smoother rocker design as you transition Through your foot strike as said the Foam is not the most lively on the on Either I would say and I have run at Faster paces in it i think I flatten out The rocker a little bit on the shoe when I do that then you don't really notice a Big amount of energy return off the toes It's a good shoe for ticking over in but Don't think either are particularly Impressive when it comes to versatility But the on's a bit lighter so maybe that Does have a little bit of an edge on That front but both of them like I say Are more geared up towards easy runs
Little note on the on Cloud Surfer 2 is That hasn't started squeaking for me at All yet i know that was a problem with The first version or well whatever Number was the Cloud Surfer was last Year when it had a bit of a squeaky Problem but haven't really noticed any Squeaking with the second one yet so Yeah I say both shoes are really good For easy daily training they're not as Maxed out and cushioned as lots of shoes On the market these days but both Definitely have enough cushioning and Protection to protect the body and make It feel comfortable on those easy runs And neither are necessarily the most Versatile did do a run in both shoes at The same time you can notice the Different feeling as you transition Through your foot strike so landing at The heel I think the Nike is a bit Cushier and softer maybe than the on Although that is also you know softer at The heel as well and the Nike kind of Snap through and you get that quite firm Feeling under the forefoot as a result Because there is less cushioning there But also the way you do snap through Without the rocker means as a heel Striker I do find it actually less Comfortable under the forefoot so even Though there's loads of cushioning at The heel where I land which is great Because of the way you then move through
From your heel relative lack of Cushioning under the forefoot is Noticeable with the on you've got that Very smooth ride really comfortable Rocker i just found it very natural to Run in when I was doing my training in It less so maybe at faster speeds but Certainly at those easier paces now in Testing I've run well north of 100 miles In the Nike Pegasus 41 i've run 60 plus Miles in the Encloud Surfer 2 i've also Done a solo marathon test in the Pegasus 41 which you can find on the channel if You search for it i've done a full range Of paces in the shoes i've mixed up Roads with road with kind of light Off-road river paths that usual stuff That I run overall I really like both of These shoes they've been quite sort of Favorites of mine over the time that I've tested them in terms of versatility For the way that I run I think they can Handle quite a lot certainly up to my Endurance pace i found they'll cover Quite similar runs they're best when You're just getting out to log miles get Your head up the easier end of business For sure and they're what I'd call Excellent kind of suitcase shoes if You're traveling and you want a shoe That will cover a good range of runs These both fit the bill they're balanced And controlled with good cushioning and Protection but they avoid making you
Weigh through softness like you can get With some sort of bigger cushion daily Trainers now when it comes to the Cloud Surfer 2 the geometry the fit the mid Cushion the weight the agility I think They all work well with the way that I Run there's some snap to this shoe when You move faster with a quick foot Turnover but they cope nicely at that Kind of slow to midling pace as well one Thing I will say you notice the Rockering and that collapsing midsole Effect that sort of rolls you more than The flatter less curved Pegasus 41 which Is just a bit more traditional in terms Of that ride the Pegasus 41 though also Has an excellent disappearing feel it's Spacious and roomy it's light it's Unfussy i find it really easy to slip on Instantly comfortable the ride is Cushioned maybe more so in the heel than You'll get in the Cloud Surfer 2 it's a Bigger shoe but it runs lighter on the Foot I think than the scales suggest it Should i found it cushioned and Protective but not overly soft and Labored i think it's a workhorse that'll Eat easy miles there's a little bit of Bounce and energy from the combination Of the React X and those Air Zoom pods Though I would say that neither of these Shoes off the liveless most energetic Return from the midsole foams they are Both happiest from slower up to
Endurance cruising pace though I would Say the Encloud Surfer 2 probably has a Little bit more capability beyond that i Can run a little bit faster in this shoe Due to the kind of the lightweight feel Of it and the sort of more precision That you get then on durability I would Say that both of these shoes have held Up equally though I've got more wear in The heel on the Pegasus on the outside Here those studs have worn away a bit More none of that yet on the Encloud Surfer 2 though I have done less Miles comes to the verdict for me I just Like the ride feel of the OnCloud Surfer 2 more i prefer more rocker shoes and This is a very rocket shoe and it just Means it really disappears on my foot And just gets naturally in sync with my Gate when I'm running at relaxed daily Training paces and I find it very Comfortable as a result pegasus 41 is a Solid shoe but I think it just has a Little bit less life to it in terms of The midsole and the way it snaps through Is probably slightly less comfortable For me over longer distances than the Way the on rockers through so yeah I Prefer the on i also think it's probably A slightly more versatile shoe because It is a little bit lighter that said the Nike is a bit cheaper i think it's going To be the more durable shoe as well You've got a thicker outsole on the Nike
The midsole foam seems built to last Forever i think that might affect things For some buyers especially as I think Both these shoes are pretty good-looking Shoes and shoes that you probably Consider wearing outside you're running As well that might be part of the appeal Of both of them they are quite street Ready shoes and in which case the extra Durability on the Nike that thicker Outsole would probably yield a bit more Value in the long term if you're also Using it for a lot of walking so maybe Look at that but in terms of pure run Feel I prefer the feel of the Uncloud Surfer 2 and that's the one I get out of These two shoes verdict then and you've Got two good cushion daily trainers here They are definitely shoes I'd recommend To casual runners who want something That crosses from everyday wear to the Odds 5k or beginners who are just Looking for a shoe that's going to Deliver comfort for those easy runs when You're just starting out these are both Shoes that you need to do a chunk of the Work in but I don't mind that at all You're not going to get the liveliest Return from the foams but I don't always Want big springy shoes firing you off Each step and what you lack in all out Bounce i think you get back from fairly Smooth transitions particularly in the On which probably offers a bit more of a
Snappier ride i have to say I also like The styling of both they're better than Some shoes if you want something that Looks okay with jeans when you're not Running I've taken both of these shoes Recently or at least over the last year On holiday when I didn't have room for a Casual shoe and a running shoe and I was Just wearing these with my jeans as well So they're good for that now in terms of Choosing between them for the ride and Run performance I think the OnCloud Surfer 2 just about edges it for me it's A bit snappier it's a bit more precise There's a bit more smoothness to the Ride from that rockering and the way the Midsole kind of collapses if it's value Though I think I'd go for the Nike Pegasus 41 i can use it for the same Range of runs but it's going to come in 20 less so there you have it that's been Our headto-head between the OnCloud Surfer 2 and the Nike Pegasus 41 hope You found it useful we'd appreciate a Like and a subscribe if you did if You're not already subscribed to the Channel don't forget to ring that bell Whilst you're doing that to be notified When other videos land on the channel if You're interested in daily trainings I'm Going to pop a video up on the channel Now that you should go and watch Otherwise thank you very much for Stopping by and until next time happy
