Hey Tommy from the Run testers in this Video we are going to be doing a full Review of the pummer magmax Nitro let's Have a [Music] Look the Puma magmax Nitro costs 170 or $180 it weighs 298 G or 10.2 o for men In a size 8 and the drop is 8 Mm the magmax Nitro is a big stack Cushion shoe designed for comfort over Easy miles and longer sessions the thick Midsole is made from the Brand's Nitrogen injected Nitro foam a balanced Foam that's designed to provide [Music] Propulsively uk9 us10 that's the size I Use across the pummer range and have Always found it perfectly fine apart From a couple of the racing shoes where I could potentially go half a size down Fit was perfectly good for me on length With the magmax Nitro so I would stick To your normal size I have had pretty Big problems however with the heel Design on this shoe it's the second pum Shoe that's done this to me after the Devi8 Nitro 3 where it just really Irritates my K tender Nittis and I can't Work out why it's not the most Aggressive heal counter in the world but You can feel it in the back in the Center of the shoe there and yeah Particularly my right foot every time I've run in the shoe I've had real
Irritation that I've had to deal with in The days after I'm just not getting with Other shoes that I'm using around the Same kind of time so hopefully this Isn't a widespread problem I've not Really heard it being reported by other People so I don't think it's necessarily Something to really worry about but if You do have kind of insertional hit Kiles tontis you know on the lower part Of the heel then maybe it'll be one to Look out for because it has really been A problem for me with this and the DV8 Nitro 3 which is a real shame because Obviously really love running a pum Shoes in recent years and none of them Have done this to me until this and the Dant Nitro 3 so yeah that's a big Problem for me on the fit but overall I Would say on the sizing stick to your Normal size so the fit for me has been Overall very good on the Puma magmax Nitro no issues to Port really in my Time now I've got m in UK size 8 that's Is my typical running shoe size Generally that is the shoe size that Works best for me in pummer shoes I've Had a bit of a mixed experience of some Ofic shoes recently particularly the DV8 Nitro Elite 3 and the Nitro 3 but Generally you know going through to size Here feels like just about right I think That's probably going to work for most People now I say in terms of the toe box
I think you know it's being Accommodating Enough For Me In terms of My runs terms of longer runs I've done I've been very happy with that space Hasn't felt overly long or Too Short um I think the nature of this supper does Mean that you get kind of something that Feels relatively spacious or you know Creates that kind of natural kind of Roomy feel up there as well too and it's Actually quite a broad uh kind of Fitting shoe as well it's not overly Wide I don't think but I think Ultimately compared to things like the DV8 Nitro 3 maybe the velocity Nitro 3 As well too maybe is a slight kind of Wider feel or kind of fit here for Generally that that's been absolutely Fine for me in terms of the lacing and The tongue you've got this quite Stretchy tongue that once you kind of Get the laces in place and you maybe Need to kind of tighten them more than You probably would in other kind of Pummer shoes it kind of stays put and it Kind of does wrap very securely on the Top of your foot you've got kind of a You know not too generous amount of Padding there but enough padding there To offer some comfort on those longer Runs you've got this kind of extended Kind of heel counter which you know it's Been fine for me hasn't caused any Irritation but it does kind obviously
Sit quite close against the back of your Um foot as well but ultimately as I said No problems for me so for me I would go Through I think most people should be Fine going true to size in this shoe I Think it's enough space up front of the Toes I think it's generally a very Accommodating fit overall with a lot of Padding the kind of panning you want to See for a shoe you're probably going to Spend a lot of time in and you're going To want that kind of added Comfort Overall fit for me in the magmax Nitro Uh I'm a size eight in the UK I found This to be a very roomy shoe there's Plenty of space before my big toe uh and Around the side of the shoe as well it's A very roomy foref foot and the midfoot Is actually pretty roomy as well it's Not uh restrictive in any way so I Definitely say stick to your size in This shoe I won't go up or down half Size in this shoe uh there's plenty of Padding around it it's very comfortable And I really like this upper mesh design As well it's slightly it's got quite a Bit of give in it it's very comfortable To wear the shoe is designed for comfort Really and I'd stay to my size in It so it tells my running time in the Puma magmax Nitro I've done well over 50 K in this shoe now and overall i' say It's been very enjoyable I think you Know my experience has been from kind of
First run to the last run I've done in Testing it's just been a very easy shoe To throw on and get out and get running In I think that's been very Representative of my time you know you Know it's a Max cushion shoe I think Ultimately build as one for kind of Recovery runs easy style runs I think Absolutely it's going to work for those Types of runs and that's what I've seen In my testing time but I do think some Runners and I think I count myself as One of those Runners will get a little Bit more versatility out of this shoe I Think some Runners possibly won't and I'll get into why I think that might be The case I definitely would classes as You know in that category of kind of Max Cushion super trainers like things with The super Blast 2 the Haw Sky X as well Too I think it's in good company those Shoes whether are better than those Shoes I'll get into that in the verdict But I think ultimately it does sit well And that's kind of the way I view the Shoe in terms of how you know I've spent My running time in it and I think the Biggest thing I can say you know in Terms of what's really stood out for me Is what getting from that midsole I Al You're getting that Nitro foam that big Stack of nitro foam now this is probably One of my favorite kind of um kind of Midsole Foams I think you know it
Strikes a good balance between slightly Soft you know it's not plush you know You're not going to really sink into it But just sink into it a little bit to Give that kind of comfort level but also I think you're getting kind of a Responsive Edge to it as well that Slightly firmer feel which I think You're getting the pum velocity Nitro is A good kind of example of you know being A shoe that has that versatility doesn't Feel awkward to kind of slightly pick up The pace in I think you know that would Be my experience of the mag Max Nitro Now obviously you're doing that from a Heavier shoe than something like the Velocity Nitro 3 and I think you know The weight thing is something that I Think would count against it for some People in terms of being a shoe that can Work those more uptempo Paces for me Hasn't been a problem I haven't found it Overly heavy now it's obviously not as Light as something the super Blast 2 Which is pretty much the Pinnacle in Terms of pushing the weight of a Max Cushion super trainer but I think in Terms of the mag Max Nitro it's not too Far off it definitely is heavier but I Do think you know it hasn't counted Against it for me being a shoe that Absolutely fine at easy recovery Paces But when I'll be able to go at moderate Up temper Paces Run a little bit harder
In the shoe it hasn't feel out it hasn't Felt out of place to do that but I do Think because of the weight and I think For some people it may be something that Counts against it for those more kind of You know uptempo kind of runs but for me It's been absolutely fine I think you Know coupled with that kind of nitro Foam you're getting quite a prominent Rocker in it I kind of talked about that In the kind of first round of video Where I think you know while it is an Easy recovery Run start shoot I found it It was kind of prompting me to push a Little bit kind of you know you know hit A slightly quicker Pace in the shoe Really kind of pushing you for in a very Kind of prominent way a kind of Purposeful way that's kind of what I Found and I found that you know when I've gone out and tried to run slightly Easier Pace it's kind of pushed me to go A little bit kind of more Up Tempo a Little bit more at my moderate pace Which been absolutely fine because you Know terms of that experience the ride It's bouncy it's Lively but it's pretty Stable because you're getting it kind of That foam spread across you know Relatively broad base I think Particularly for pummer shoes and I Think that's kind of been my experience That you know the the ride has you know Maintained for kind of shorter to longer
Runs and it's felt as good you know Something like the super Blast 2 it's Something like the skyex where you maybe You know when you're getting deep into Those longer runs you just want that Kind of lively F to still be there not Just something just going to Simply Protect that's kind of been my Experience with the Puma kind of madmax Nitro and I do think it can work for Those kind of you know those longer runs It feels like a very good long run shoe To kind of use and you know if you're Looking for a long run you know shoe for The kind of marathon training you those Longer weekend runs it feels like a very Good option in that kind of you know Profile of run and that's kind of what I've seen in my time with it the other Thing to talk about here is the outsole I it's a you know pummer Puma's out SS In terms of their you know in terms of Grip in terms of traction in terms of Maybe letting you kind of go a little Bit Offroad and that's kind of what I've Been able to do it's been absolutely Fine the durability side of things you Know I'm not seeing any kind of worrying Signs of wear hair and terms of my time In this shoe and I think you know it's Another top-notch kind of pumer grip Kind of outsole here that you're getting Here good level of rubber you know I Haven't slipped around here I think if
You're going to hit a bit of rain you Know you know I wouldn't worry like a Lot of other pum isues that it's going To be an issue and I'm going to be Slipping sliding and around so yeah I Think a good level of grip and I think It's going to give you a good amount of Life as well too so yeah my experience Has been very good I think overall with The Puma magmax Nitro maybe surprised me A little bit I was going and expecting To be in a kind of easy recovery Style Shoe it's been a bit more for me and That is it the best kind of Max Cushioned shoe super Trainer shoe Whatever you how you want to refer to it As I'll get into that in the verdict Okay so I have done about 60k in this Shoe so far and that has varied between Really easy recovery runs all the way up To interval sessions that I've done as Part of my marathon training block uh What I found about the shoe is that uh There's a lot of these shoes coming out At the moment um these really big mac Stack shoes uh and they're sort of Designed for different things I'm Finding um a lot of the time this firmly Fits into the world of cushioned easy Day running for me um there's a massive Stack of foam in here uh Puma's foam is Not the softest foam out there it's Quite well balanced it's a fairly dense Foam as well uh which means that it has
A nice level of stability in it um but You don't get loads of softness in it It's not a really soft squishy foam Which you can get in some of the other Big Mac stack cushion shoes um there may Be similarities between this shoe or People may draw similarities to this Shoe with things like the um the super Blast it's not like the super blast for Me at all it's very much sits in that World of Max cushion shoes like the New Balance M range the glycerin Max those Sorts of shoes where they're they're Really designed for just Comfort Cushioning and possibly longer runs at Comfortable Pace as well um for me I Found this is best used uh for those Sort of daily runs cushion runs runs Where you want to go out and have a nice Time and you want a lot of padding in The shoe but you're not going to get Loads of of squishing the shoe you don't Get loads of energy return it does have A quite nice smooth motion when you're Running in it you can get a nice Consistent Pace in the shoe and it feels Very comfortable to do that but it's not A versatile shoe it's not a shoe that I Would say that you would use for faster Tempo efforts or anything like that it's Fine if you want to do long run running In it I like a little bit more energy Return in my shoes for long runs I like A little bit of Bounce um to help me
Along when I'm doing long runs not Really getting it from this what I'm Getting is a stable comfortable shoe That Um is really welld designed if you just Want something solid and comfortable and Cushion to go through all those daily Runs in but um other than that what I Would say is that for the interval Session I did I did find it pretty hard To really pick up the pace in this shoe It's more versatile than some other Max Cushion shoes out there because of the Nitro phone that um pummer puts in its Shoes it is a little bit more uh firmer Not massively firm but it's more Balanced so it does offer a little bit More responsiveness than you might get From some of the really soft Foams that Um sap your energy when you're trying to Pick up the pace so in that Max Cushion World it's probably one of the more Versatile options um but it's still not For me a massively versatile shoe it Still firmly fits into those easier runs And comfortable steady Paces as opposed To picking up the pace or running fast Intervals in or anything like that uh The other thing about the shoe is the Outsole brilliant as always pag grip Absolutely fantastic I've you can see Quite a bit of mud on there I've not Cleaned this yet but I have room running Over a lot of gravel paths little bit of
Hardened mud things like that and it's Absolutely fine it's a good um it's a Good level of it there is a missing Piece here so uh the the rubber only Covers uh the back and front and there's Sort of this exposed section here I've Not seen any work signs of we te on that Section um over the 60k of running that I've done so seems to be a pretty Hardy Foam this this Nitro foam that P's got In there um but very very solid outs Salt on this shoe so yeah solid shoe um Very good for your e day and your your Comfortable um steady sessions so I've Done around 40 45k in the magmax Nitro I'd like to done a little bit more but Talking about the ailles problems I had Uh that I mentioned in the fit section I Just not really felt comfortable using The shoe too much so I used it for three Runs before our early review and I used It again this week just to see if there Was anything that changed about the ride Of the shoe for me and it's just yeah Not a shoe that works for me Unfortunately not just because of the Fit just the underfoot feel just can't Get into any kind of Rhythm with the Shoe especially at easy Pace as it feels Like I'm just not moving through my foot Strike very well and while the foam does Feel good underfoot it feels soft and Bouncy it feels like you know be a fun Phone to use if you are getting into
Sink with the shoe it just hasn't Happened for me I haven't been able to Awaken this Beast of a midsole maybe Because pretty shuffly Runner I've got Quite a short stride length maybe I'm Not really sinking in and getting the Most out of this Nitro maybe heavier Runners will get a bit more from it but Yeah just can't get moving in it and While my easy runs have felt pretty Normal in terms of pace and effort level And that I just hasn't been an enjoyable Ride and then if I've gone to try and Pick up the paac in it maybe sometimes The ride gets a little bit better in Terms of smoothness but it is a heavy Shoe and it doesn't feel like a shoe I'm Really comfortable to go and do fast Runs in so overall shoot just hasn't Clicked for me you know to the point Where there was one one I talked about In the early review where I was doing 1550 mil and I did the first 5 miles in The shoe and you know I struggling with My kiles just couldn't get into rhythm With the shoe at all so I tried SW into Another shoe just to see if I was having A bad day put on the Brooks ghost Max 2 And just immediately felt a lot better The Rocker was working for me in that Shoe wasn't having Achilles rubbing that Kind of thing so yeah it's just a shoe That doesn't really work for me and I'm Not sure if that's going to be a
Widespread feeling though so maybe Listen more to Mike and Tom on the shoe Because I just haven't been able to get Into any kind of flow with the shoe and Just means my run experience is hasn't Been very fun and I think there is a fun Shoe here I think there's a lot of foam Under Foot I think it will be Comfortable I think it has a bit of Bounce I think it probably will have a Little bit of Versatility maybe even Because it is a quite bouncy midell but Just doesn't seem to work with my gate And that just happens sometimes with Running shoes so yeah fortunately my run Test was ciled a little bit by the Achilles problem but also just the flow Of the shoe hasn't worked for me I'm Sticking to the velocity Nitro for sure In pummer range myself but yeah bit of a Shame that I just couldn't get going With the shoe at all Really so my verdict on thise Um there's a lot of these Max cushion Shoes coming out at the moment um I am Probably the one of the Run testers who Is most interested in these shoes I love Loads of cushioning I love soft shoes I Love shoes with big stacks of bouncy Foam in them for me this is Probably uh when you're looking at Energy return and bounce and softness This is probably a bit further away than Quite a lot of the other Max scishion
Shoes out there the balanced feel of the Uh Nitro phone that Puma put in is a Little bit firmer than what you're going To get in some mac cushion shoes uh Which I think is a good thing because I Think some people will want that it Makes it a more stable shoe when you've Got this big chunk of foam in it you Want a bit of stability in it so I think It's a more accessible shoe for people That want a Max cushion ride um it's not The most versatile shoe in the world but It is a a solid um easy day shoe Recovery day shoe long run shoe at Comfortable Pace uh and I very much Enjoy testing it when I put up against Things like the Brooks G in Max I Probably say I prefer the glycerin Max Just cuz it's got a little bit more Softness to it for me and I enjoy Running in that a little bit more very Similar ride to this one I would use Them for the same things um but for some People that might be too soft the Glycerin Mac so this is probably a good Option for people who don't really want A really soft shoe uh other options that People might compare it to things like The super blast it's not like the super Blast for me it's doesn't have the um The speed of super blast you don't get a Really smooth heels to tro transition Like you get in the super blast um it's Not a performance shoe basic basically
So it's definitely a shoe that's Designed for just getting through loads Of miles in as much comfort as possible And a nice bit of stability so I'm a Little bit hesitant to give you know Very strong verdict on the magmax Nitro Because it just feels like a shoe Doesn't work for me and you know maybe If you've got very similar running style To me and you've always got on with the Shoes I'd lik in the past maybe you'll Also not get on with this shoe but at The same time you might just find it Very different experience because yeah I Just can't get into rhythm with it it Rubs my achilles it feels too heavy for Me to do anything kind of fast in it Doesn't feel like enjoyable or you know Comfortable at easy Pace it doesn't Disappear on the foot or anything like That so I'll be looking at other shoes Other Big Mac stack shoes some like the Sucy hurcan 24 I've Loved this year Really comfortable really flows through Very nicely on easy runs just feels like A shoe I really enjoy pulling on every Single time the ghost Max 2 I've also Enjoyed and the Hocus Sky flow is Another it's not as cushioned as the Shoe but another really nice cushioned Daily train that I'd use for a lot of Runs but the magmax Nitro just hasn't Really clicked for me for any reason and Yeah obviously in pummer range you have
Got the magnify Nitro 2 which I did Really like and I did find a shoe that Did work for me very comfortable Underfoot and in the upper and ly Nitro 3 another really good cushion shoe that I like using for lots of daily training If you don't necessarily need this Big Mac stack out you get on the Mac Max so My verit on the Puma magmax Nitro is That it's a very solid performing Comfortable easy to get on with Max Cushion shoe and I think in terms of the Other Puma shoes I've tested this year This is definitely one of my favorites I've spent time in now in terms of being The best Max cushion super Trainer shoe So a shoe that can work for those kind Of mixture of paces and be a really kind Of solid long run shoe to use as well Too is it the best not quite for me I Don't think yet but that doesn't mean It's a bad shoe I think you know Ultimately the Pinnacle still is the aex Super blast too and I think in terms of AR being the lighter shoe in terms of You know working better at faster paces And I think the crucial thing for me in My experience of these kind of Max Cushion super trend is a transition from Easy to fast and Fast to easy and I Think the superl 2 just does a better Job of it than the Puma magmax Nitro as I said that doesn't mean this is a bad Shoe and I kind of put it in a category
Of things like the haaker sky with X Which is another shoe that looks like It's going to be a big heavy shoe But Ultimately handles that weight very well And is a very enjoyable bouncy kind of You know Lively shoe to use for your Long runs and that's kind of how I kind Of view the kind of magmax nitro as well Too it's cheaper than the Skyward X as Well too so you're looking for an Alternative to something like that Something like the super Blast 2 but Obviously doesn't give you that kind of Lighter feel and doesn't work at those Very fast kind of Paces then absolutely This is a shoe I think is worth looking At and I say you know ultimately from a Max cushion point you it's giving you That protection and comfort over those Longer distances but giving you Something Lively in that ride in that Midsole that makes sure that you know When you're being out there and you're Out there on your feet it's going to Feel nice to do and it's not just going To feel like it's just protecting you Over that distance so for me as I said a Solid performing kind of Max cushion Super trainer that for a lot of people Will just be an easy recovery run style Shoe but I think for a lot of people a Lot of other people it will have a Little bit more versatility about it if You can handle the weight they slightly
More moderate uptempo Paces because it Can absolutely offer that and that's Kind of what I've seen in my time with This shoe that's it from us on this Review of the Puma mag Max Nitro thanks A lot for watching don't forget to like Subscribe click that little bell and if You're go into catching below you can Find a link to our podcast which comes Out a couple of times each month thanks All for watching catch you next time
