Hey people welcome to the run test it's Kieran here and for this vid we're Heading back onto the trails to give you Our verdict on an interesting Max stack Trail shoe from Salamon the slab Ultra Glide this big stack off Rader is Designed for Speed and Performance with A nod to the mid pack Trail Runners and Ultra Runners out there it's got some Unique looking geometry going on it's up There on price but is it also up there On performance watch on to find out in Our Salamon slab Ultra Glide review Quick details first end and the stack Height comes in at quite a whopping 41 Ms in the hill 35 Ms in the 4T for a 6 Mil drop it weighs in at 11.4 o or 323 G In our UK men's 8 and a half on price They're up there at the pricey premium End of trail shoes £230 in the UK $250 In the US let's take a closer look at the Design then in some ways this is a quite A different looking Trail shoe with some Interesting Innovations you've got a big Duwel foam midsole here that puts a Layer of super critical energy foam plus Underfoot this lightweight foam aims for Good shock absorption good energy return And then there's a layer of Eva energy Foam beneath and surrounding that that Compresses and provides rebound for what Salam describes as energetic steps and Also soaking up the shocks from the
Trail there's no plate here and the Whole package aims to be responsive and Cushion for resilient bounce and pop the Idea overall is to help you run further And faster with less effort effort these Eva sidewalls rise up quite High to Provide extra support and stability here You can see just how high they come up Up top you've also got a stretch knit Toe box monom mesh here and sort of knit To the rear the tongues are gusseted With big gussets too they're quite deep Into the shoe down into the shoe you've Got a nice thin wrapping tongue to them Here the heel collar are medium padded For a bit of comfort as's a toe cap Overlay here for a bit of extra Structure and support defense against Rocks that kind of thing Salamon quick La setup is also here a little lace Garage in the tongues to tuck those away To stop them flapping around keep them Out the way the outo is where things get Even more interesting you get an Alterrain Contour grip with four M lugs Here but this wavy geometry technology To the outso Salamon calls relieve Sphere has these kind of concave Elements across the sole that Salamon Sort of says will help diffuse the Pressure and to break down the repeated Impact of long time on feet on trails So in testing I've run north of 35 miles In this salaman s laab Ultra Glide I did
One longer 2hour run mixing up the paces From easy to fast I've also done a Faster femer and some slower recovery Runs at my ultra plot Pace to really Test that my runs covered a mix of Terrain from compact gravel wet grass Bogs forest floor groomed Trails Everything you find in the largely Runnable New Forest National Park here In the UK I also did some road to Trail One bit caveat here for this review none Of my testing has been particularly Steep or technical some of my miles have Been in tricky wet conditions or sort of Icy slippy but none of it mountainous so If you're wondering how this shoe might Hold up on the big climbs and those long Steep technical descents this might not Be your review you might have to find That from somewhere else someone who Lives close to the mountains now if you Want to know how they perform though on The more runnable stuff you're in the Right place CU I have put them through Their Paces over exactly that so let's Start with a feel on the foot I'm not a Huge huge fan of salamon's quick lace Setup I always find it a bit faffy it Might just be me I've got Big K high Insteps it's a real struggle to get them On and off for me though and get them Into place if I was doing an ultra where I thought I might change socks regly I Think that would make me think twice
About choosing them however once they Are on the uppers I think are generally Roomy and comfortable I really like the Wrapping tongues I like that little bit Of extra gusting that goes down they Feel like they hold really nicely across The top of the foot that's got good Ultra comfort in it the relatively Generous toe box is great as well this Is an easy shoe to forget your wearing When it comes to the ride that big stack Of foam serves up plentiful cushioning Maybe too much for fans of direct shoes You also get good energy though it's a Fun shoe from the off but I found it a Bit more controlled than some of the pl Shoes we've seen like the AIX metap Fuji Trail or the HCT and X3 those were also Fun but they felt a bit wild at times Particularly on desense this is a bit More of a cruise control shoe I think Now the wide platform helps balance out That big energetic stack for some added Stability without sacrificing all the Precision you know the kind of precision That you're going to want when you're Picking your way along more cluttered Trails on the clearer trails with a good Surface underfoot where you can really Let loose they feel smooth and Lively And they really do encourage you to clip Along nicely with a decent dollop of Energy they were excellent on the road Too I mean these really ran like a road
Shoe for large sections this is Definitely a shoe that can carry you Into and out of towns on Long Haul Ultras where you're going to be weaving Through Villages and such like speaking Of long Ultras if Salomon was aiming at Mid pack runners or back of the pack Runners for comfort in these shoes Staring at longer hours on feet I think They've really hit the mark the Comfort Under Foot from the Dual foam midsole I Found to be excellent a really happy Thing on my 2-hour run I felt it well Looked after from the start to the Finish when it comes to grip I ran Through some really wet and boggy Terrain as well quite muddy at times on A couple of my runs the four Mill lugs Here lack the bite to cope with that Kind of slippiest sloppiest stuff the Slightly sparse lug pattern also makes The 4 foot traction a little less sticky On stuff that's a bit slippier or even Sort of looser terrain like looser Gravel but again when you're on Reasonable ground the grip is nicely Reliable and that softer outo rubber I Think also makes for a less Slappy Experience than you get from some trail Shoes when you hit firmer ground and That is a big thumbs up as well on Durability I've not seen any worrying Degradation yet from the miles I've done I've not been running on anything that's
Really likely to chew up or rip the Outsoles more testing terrain underneath May well do that I don't know but for me So far everything looks still in good Nick 30 then I really enjoyed my miles In this shoe and if you're looking for a Versatile Trail shoot that can deliver Comfort from everything from your short Runs to long hours on the trail I think It's a really good option if a little Expensive or quite expensive it's the Kind of shoe I'd happily lace up for any Of the less technical more runnable Marathons and Ultras in the UK I'm Thinking sort of North and South Downs Ultras anything in Forest parts that Kind of thing any of the race to the Stones or you know Race To The King Series those Race 2 Series races like The Maverick series as well most of Those I think it would cope with well It's well balanced cushioned but Controlled and even remarkably good on The road it's not as Punchy and Energetic as The aex Meta Fuji Trail or The Adidas sort terx speed Ultra or the Hon X3 but if those new plated trail Shoes look too Lively for you or too Wild or these kind of keep some of the Energy but sort of tone down that Wildness the result I think is a winning Smooth ride that's excellent crew using And can shift up the gears if needed Really comfortable really good it's a
Big thumbs up for Me so let's give you a quick word on fit Then now as I've mentioned I find this Kind of quick lace system you get on the Salamon shoes it's a little bit fussy I Find it very I have to loosen it right Off and it's a bit of a squeeze to get My feet and you can see it's still quite Cramped this is a tight fitting shoe Overall there's not a huge amount of Wiggle room in the toe box there's a Decent amount of length but actually They hold quite narrow here all the way Down the midfoot and around that toe Knuckle and across there when I'm Running I don't necessarily notice it But it would worry me if this was a shoe That I was going to be taking on and off Regularly to change my socks during an Ultra it does feel a little bit snug Maybe I would recommend going half a Size up if you wanted to have a more Roomy fit for Ultra when I'm running Shorter runs this fit feels nice and Secure overall across the midf foot into The heels I get no slipping back here I Find the heel colors are sort of nicely Sort of balanced in terms of the padding They hold well and all is good it is Just a bit difficult and a bit fussy to Get them on and get these laces down I Simply prefer a regular lacing system to This quick lacing system you got on the Sal but yeah if you want a bit more room
Go half a size up if you like them Really snug stay true to size so there You have it that's been my review of the Salamon slab Ultra Glide I hope you Found it useful if you're interested in Other fast Lively trail shoes I'm Popping up two reviews that you should Check out otherwise thank you very much For stopping by we always appreciate you Spending time watching our videos and Until next time happy running people by
