The Saucony Hurricane 24 is a high-stack cushioned running shoe that provides stability through a wide platform and high sidewalls.

The midsole is dual layer, combining the soft, bouncy PWRRUN PB found in some of the brand’s performance shoes and a lower layer of PWRRUN to improve support and durability. Those foams work alongside a rocker design to give a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

The New Balance Fresh Foam 860v14 is a moderate stability shoe designed for daily training. It provides a subtle level of support through a dual-layer midsole foam, alongside a Stability Plane plate that runs across the length of the shoe.

Tom has been testing both shoes out to see how they compare.

Hey Tommy from the testers in this video I'm going to do a comparison of the Sakon hurricane 24 and the New Balance 860 v14 let's take a [Music] Look the socon hurricane 24 costs £165 Or $160 it weighs 323 G or 11.4 Oz for Men in a size 8 and the drop is 6 mm the New Balan Fresh Foam X 860 V 14 costs £140 or $140 it weighs 283 G or 9.9 o For men in a size 8 and the drop is 8 [Music] Mm the sakon hurricane 24 is a high Stack cushioned running shoe that Provides stability through a wide Platform and high sidewalls the midsole Is dual layer combining the soft bouncy Power and PB found in some of the Brand's performance shoes and a lower Layer of poweron to improve support and Durability those pH work alongside a Rocker design to give a smooth Heel To Toe transition the outsole uses sakon's Reliable xt900 outsole rubber positioned Across key areas to improve grip and Protection and there's a roomy Engineered mesh upper to provide a Comfortable fit and plenty of Breathability the New Balance Fresh Foam 860 v14 is a moderate stability shoe Designed for daily training it provides A subtle level of support through a dual Layer midell foam alongside a stability Plane plate that runs across the length

Of the shoe the upper layer Fresh Foam X Is there to provide comfort and Cushioning while the firmer layer of Foam positioned underneath provides Support specifically on the medial side Version 14 also receives a slight Increase in the stack height as well as The drop going from 10 mm to 8 mm There's a rocker profile that's built to Provide a smooth transition and a thick Layer of outso rubber is there to Provide grip and improve durability the Upper is a well structured engineered Mesh design that provides plenty of Padding around the heel and tongue Okay so the fit for me in both of these Shoes I'm a size eight in the UK I've Found these shoes to be very very Comfortable um I definitely would stick To my size in both of these shoes There's plenty of space in the foref Foot there's plenty of padding around The size of the shoe uh the upper is Quite similar it's quite reinforced Which is what you probably want from a Stability shoe because you want to make Sure your foot is firmly held in place Um and they they've got very nicely Cushioned uppers as well so they're very Comfortable shoes um they're definitely Designed for comfort so they're not Narrow for in any way not restrictive They're very very um accommodating and Welcoming um for uh well any Runner

Really that wants a nice comfortable Shoe so I'd stay to my size in both of These Shoes stability shoes are becoming a bit Tricky now uh because they are have Really advanced in recent years Stability shoes maybe five or six years Ago were very similar beasts they would Be quite chunky they would probably have Quite firm midsoles they'd have the Medial posts in Uh they would be quite easy to compare Because they were doing a very similar Thing um now stability shoes are really Changing quite a lot and we're seeing a Lot more stability shoes come out which Ride very much like daily shoes cushion Shoes uh and it's quite hard to actually View them as stability shoes unless you Really need that stability uh both of These shoes are good examples of that Because um I've been testing both of These shoes for a while and I really Enjoyed testing both of these I'm not Technically a stability Runner I'm told By gate analysis that I could do with Some stability but I've never really Needed to use it and I I test a lot of Shoes and I've never had any issues with Uh stability so um both of these shoes I Was quite surprised that I've really Been enjoying testing both of them and I Think the biggest comparison between the Two is that I don't feel like these are

Stability shoes when I'm out running Them in them they both ride like Non-stability shoes so they're very Comfortable to wear I don't feel like They're pushing my foot into a specific Position they feel like largely natural To run in and feel very comfortable to Run in now it's not until I tried to Really activate those stability elements In the shoe that I can tell that they Are stability shoes so if I try and over Prenate a little bit that's when the uh Midsole in these shoes kicks in quite a Bit um they're quite similar in how they Work with stability so they don't have Really obvious stability elements but The hurricane 24 is a very wide shoe and It has a very uh thick stable midsole It's not really firm mid soole but it's Very um steady like you you can really Feel it holding your foot underneath It's not really soft um and when you're Out running in it you your foot really Feels like it's nestled nicely onto the Ground and with that wide base it's Quite hard to move your foot into Positions that uh isn't Landing nicely So it'll sort of move your foot into the Right position and land it softly on the Ground the 860 v14 has got less of a Wide midsole um and I would say you do Notice that a little bit it's a bit more Natural feeling as a shoe it feels a lot More flexible feels like it's probably a

Little bit more versatile I've been Doing a lot of interval sessions in this Shoe not because I wanted to use it for That but because I've got interval Trainings in my plan at the moment so I Did use it for those and it was Absolutely fine at it it felt very Comfortable it's a the midsole of this Isn't very rigid it's quite flexible mid Soole so you can really feel that when You're out in the run it feels more like A conventional daily shoe um so it is a Little bit more versatile it's not the Most versatile shoe in the world but you Can pick up a nice Pace in it and Especially with things like intervals You can hold a nice Pace with it the Hurricane 24 is less versatile it is Firmly sits in that world of easy day Runs probably long runs at zone two Pace Or something like that um for me it's More comparable with shoes like the New Balance Mo V4 where it's very much a Cushioned easy Cruiser that just holds Your foot in position and really gives You a nice smooth motion as you run Forward it's not really giving you any Energy return it's not really giving you Any nimble or anything like that um so Even though they're both stability shoes They're very different types of Stability shoes um I like both of them But I would say that the hurricane 24 is Designed for easy runs specifically

Recovery runs possibly longer runs Whereas the 866 v14 is your daily Stability shoe which is really there to Be used for the same sorts of things That you're going to use daily shoes for Picking up the pace going for Recovery Runs easy runs all of that sort of stuff Where you just want one shoe to do all Those things and I think it's doing that Really really well well without feeling Like a stability shoe both of them do Have good stability in when I try to Overate I can feel those stability Elements kicking in definitely more so In the hurricane 24 there's a lot more To this shoe it's definitely there's Definitely more stability in the um 24 Hurricane 24 than in the 860 v14 but it Just depends how much stability you want You might want both of these you might Want this for your easy day runs and you Might want this in your rotation as your Daily shoe other things I'd say about These shoes is the out Soo is very good On these I actually been running on the Um quite a lot of foot passs around Where I live where it's been a little Bit wet recently and um it they've been Absolutely fine no issues at all uh There's less outsole on the um hurricane 24 than the 860 v14 it's actually very Solid generous layer of rubber on the um On the New Balance um but I've not had Any issues with the hurricane 24 yet and

Um yeah just feels very steady this Midsole um on the hurricane 24 is quite Sturdy so hopefully it'll get pretty Good um durability from that mid All okay so my verdict on these two Shoes pretty easy really if you're Looking for a stability shoe these two Are going to come up in your search um But nowadays stability shoes are quite Varied so even though they they both Offer stability and they're both very Good stability shoes from my my view of These um I think it really comes down to How much stability you need and what Type of shoe you're looking for so Hurricane 24 is fantastic Easy Day Cruiser Lots ofce subtle stability in But definitely more stability in it than The 860 v14 the 86060 v14 is a daily Shoe that offers a bit of stability um But really is designed to be sit in this World between stability shoes and daily Shoes so you get a little bit of that uh Stability but it's not overpowering and It's definitely a shoe that's a bit more Versatile if I had to pick between these Two shoes um I would probably go for the Hurricane 24 just because I love loads Of cushioning uh I just I really like The wide base on this shoe as I say it Feels like the new band's more V4 V3 to Me and I love those shoes it just guides Your foot come to be just you it just Sinks into the ground and rolls you

Forward and moves you off again it's Just a really smooth comfortable motion Um and most of my runs that I do um Probably Veer more towards that s of Easy consistent Pace as opposed to um Picking up the pace a little bit more Because I I probably wouldn't I'd use a Different shoe for that so I don't need A versatile stability daily shoe um but I do like having stability shoe um or a Bit of stability in my um easy day long Run shoes uh just because I think it's More more valuable for me when my legs Are getting tired but um I think they're Both excellent shoes I'm just going to Go for the hurricane 24 just cuz I think It's a really surprisingly good shoe That I think a lot of people are going To like alternatives to these shoes Would be something like the aex gel Keano 31 which is a very good stability Shoe as well definitely sits into this Realm of more natural feeling uh Conventional running shoes as opposed to Stability shoes That actually sits in the middle of These two shoes for me I think it's a Little bit softer um maybe a little bit More versatile than the hurricane 24 but Uh I I like the the the the action the Smooth motion of the 24 more I think It's just a little bit more to this shoe Um when it comes to a comfortable easy Day ride that's it from me on this
