Hello and welcome to run testers my name Is Nick in this video we're going to be Comparing the Brooks Glycerin 21 and the Socony Triumph [Music] 22 so the Triumph 22 and the glycerin 21 Are the top cushion shoes within each of Their brands ranges they're the most Expensive shoes they're their premium Cushion daily trainer if you will and They have very high price tags as a Result the Triumph 22 is £170 or £60 The glycerin 21 is £65 or $160 Triumph Is the heaviest shoe it's 322 G or 11.4 O in my UK size 9 the glycerin 21 is 290 G or 10.2 o in my UK 9 so you know 30 G Lighter in the same size got a 10 mm Drop in both shoes and they've got Similar stackit the Triumph is 37 mm at The heel 27 at the 4 foot and the Glycerin is 36 at the heel 26 at the 4T So with the tri 22 the big update to the Shoe this year is that it now has a Power run PB midsole that's the p based Foam that s has used on its endorphin Speed shoes in the past and and also the Sakon tempus you've got a slightly Different version of the foam in the Triumph and you've got a very wide base With side ORS of foam as well to try and Create some stability it's also an Ortholite sock liner which is a little Bit firmer and more stable than some of The other materials that sock uses in
Its sock liners got engineered mesh Upper fair amount of structure at the Back there it's quite a stiff internal Heel counter again to add more stability To the shoe and lots of padding around The tongue and heel and then you've got A rubber out Soo with pretty solid Coverage on the shoe there if you strips There of exposed phone but nothing That's going to be feeling the impact of The road too much so should have good Durability on that front glycerin 21 You've got a nitren infused Eva midso It's their DNA Loft V3 foam that we saw Introduced with the glycerin 20 it's a Slightly firmer foam than the power run PB but the shoe is still very much built For comfort with that big high stack of It there got an engineered Mash uper Lots of cushioning around the tongue and Collar and really stiff internal heel Counter Brooks does this in general with The Ghost and the glycerin shoes you got A lot firmer feeling there than you had Even with the trium which is obviously Very worried about stability fairly wide Base on the glycerin as well and then You've got a road Tac rubber outsole Again pretty good coverage in all the Key impact areas pretty slightly less Full coverage than you get with the [Music] Triumph the fit for me in these two Shoes pretty similar to be honest
There's quite a lot of space in these Shoes they're quite roomy shoes um the Width in the forefoot is very Comfortable I'm a size eight in the UK I've got both of these in a size eight And I've had no issues at all uh they're Even pretty good if you've got slightly Wider feet as well so uh very quite a Lot of room loads of padding in there as Well very comfortable shoes definitely Stick to my size in both of them comes The fit of the two shoes both fit me Well in my normal running shoe size got A uk9 for both of these which is a us10 With both of these Brands I think the Glycerin has a slightly more dialed in Fit all around than the Triumph for me Partly because of that stiff internal Heel counter you have at the back there But even at the front of the shoe I Think it's a little bit less roomy it Probably suits me a bit better as I'm Slightly small for my size I'm kind of In between sizes but yeah I was happy With both in my normal running shoe size Both got a lot of padding at the hill There which is sometimes a problem for Me with irritating my achilles Especially with the stiffness on the Glycerin it wasn't really a big problem For me during testing but that's Something to look out for they are quite You know built up shoes at the back if You do worry about irritation
[Music] There onto the run test I think with the Last generation of these shoes there was A lot of similarities between them if You looked at the Triumph 21 and the Glycerin 20 they were both cushion daily Trainers that hadn't really crossed over Into the max cushion category they were Comfortable but still fairly verstyle Do- it all shoes for especially newer Runners who just wanted one shoe to do It all and weren't necessarily looking For an allout you know Monster stack Height cushion shoe now that is where The Triumph has gone with this Generation so the Triumph 22 the stack Height hasn't changed but it feels like A much bigger shoe it is a lot wider It's a lot more stable and it feels very Much like a shoe that's built now for Easy cruising in the mold of things like The Nimbus from aex or even the Nike Invincible it's the Triumph in the past Like I say was a pretty verstile cushion Shoe but now you've got shoe that's very Much focused I think on easy runs it is Soft at the heel it's comfortable there I enjoyed running in it at slow Paces But despite the introduction of the Power run PB insult I don't think you're Really getting a lot of Pop from this Smid so it doesn't feel very bouncy or Springy it feels soft comfortable Protective but not very responsive or
Liv or anything like that if you do want To run at a mix of Paces then the Glycerin 21 did add a little bit of Stacky compared to the glycerin 20 but Actually the shoe is lighter and I think It sticks to that cushion daily trainer Mold it is a pretty verstile shoe for a Cushion shoe this DNA Loft V3 foam is Firmer than a lot of the Foams you find On cushion shoes but it's not not Uncomfortable I think it's a really well Balanced pH it does feel cushion and Comfortable throughout long runs easy Runs but it does have a nice bit of Resilience and pop off the foref foot so If you are going to use it for a mix of Runs you can do that in the glycerin 20 And it also retains that feeling Throughout the course of a long run it Never bottoms out I always found with The glycerin 20 and 21 actually the new Ghost as well they just feel better the Longer you run at them the foam really Comes into its own and over long runs I Always finish feeling at the shoe feels Very fresh and like it did at the start Of the Run no bottoming out at all as a Result you've got a platform here that I Think you can push against a bit better And that makes it not only more Versatile but it's just a feeling I Probably prefer more even for very easy And relaxed runs like I don't really Like an overly soft feeling under foot
And you've got Comfort here for sure With the glycerin but you have got that Foam you can work against and just means It helps me tick over as a high Cadence Run it it helps me just tick over on Those runs because the foam isn't Getting too mushy or anything like that Didn't really feel it was very mushy With the Triumph like there is still a Bit of resilience there for sure but it Doesn't really pop you back in the same Way the DNA Loft V3 foam does it feels Like a shoe that I just wanted to do Easy cases in mainly because it's so big And wide as well like it's quite an Exaggerated change compared to the Triumph whereas the glycerin 20 feels Like a bit more like a traditional Cushion shoe the tri 22 very much feels Like a Max cushion shoe now to me so did A run in B shoes at the same time and it Kind of bore out those differences like They are still comfortable and soft Under Foot but you do get that something More natural feeling with the glycerin It turns over quicker the transition's a Bit quicker you get a little bit more Pop off the foam here and it is still Really comfortable Tri feels like a shoe You just want to mooch around in really Soft really comfortable but yeah lacking The kind of Verity we had from the Triumph 21 well the Comfort has probably Been added to a little bit but the
Triumph was also very comfortable shoe In the past so when we did the versus of The Brooks Glycerin 21 and the sakon Triumph 21 I found it quite hard to Choose between the shoes but I landed on The sakon Triumph 21 because it's just a Little bit more versatile for me I just Felt a little bit faster uh and I just Enjoy using that shoe a bit more I've I've it's my go-to shoe or was my go-to Shoe for uh taking away with me if I Didn't was going somewhere where I Needed one pair of shoes and I wanted to Have nice comfortable runs but I also Wanted to be able to do intervals and Stuff not the best shoe for intervals But you could run a little bit faster in That shoe glycerin 21 uh it's not as Versatile as the Sak Triumph 21 um but It's a solid comfortable uh easy Day Cruiser um and it's very it's quite Stable as well so it's a great all Around shoe now the Triumph 22 has come Uh that decision is a bit easier because Uh these shoes are actually quite Similar in a lot of ways if you look at Them on paper if you hold them if you Feel them Midol foam they're quite Similar shoes uh and you'd expect them To do the same thing um and to be honest I think that the tri 22 does have a Slightly nicer foam in it problem is it Just doesn't really work for me um this This power on PB foam which is slightly
Different power on PB phone that you Getting things like the sakon and dorin Pro 4 um it's it's it's very big it's Really really clunky you can really feel That in the shoe it's quite a big chunky Shoe to have on your feet the problem I Have with the shoe is that I don't get Any sort of rolling action with it it Just feels like a very um lumpy shoe That I know Nick lands on the heel of This shoe and feels the softness of the Midsole I don't with the trium 22 I just Feel like I'm hitting the ground and It's not giving me any sort of turnover Or any sort of Bounce or anything from That that midso foam so um they're quite Similar in many ways they're definitely Shoes that would be used for the same Reasons they're easy day shoes um they Are cushion daily shoes um but they're Not particularly versatile I would say That the glycerin 21 is a little bit More versatile than trium 22 which is a Big change from the what I said about The trium 21 um because that shoe just Was great for my style of running the Trium 22 I just feel like it lacks any Anything I want when it comes to Performance it doesn't feel particularly Bouncy doesn't feel like there's a nice Rolling action with it it doesn't feel Like there's a rocker in it or anything Like that it just feels like a very Sturdy thick shoe and it is a very
Stable shoe so it's probably a good Option if you're looking for a cushion Shoe that has a nice level of stability In it um but if you're you're used to Using the S trium 21 and you're Expecting more of the same it isn't Really the the geometry of the shoe has Changed quite a bit and it definitely Feels like a different shoe uh you're Definitely not getting some of the uh Daily benefits that you probably expect To get from uh previous two models of The soak Triumph range um Brook TI 21 uh Is slight Improvement on the previous Version um I was a big fan of the Brooks Glycerin 20 uh but it as I say it's not As versatile as some of the other shoes Like the S Tron 21 out there at the Moment so uh even though I really enjoy This shoe I think it's a great easy day Shoe I think it's a solid um comfortable Daily uh training shoe it's not a fast One you're not going to use this for Interviews intervals or anything like That but it is just a great Workhorse Comfortable uh Cruiser which um is yeah A good solid shoe if that's what you're Looking for and I think um it probably Just has a little bit more to it than The soing Triumph [Music] 22 okay my verdict on these two shoes Quite a tricky one really because they Are very similar when I did the versus
With the uh trime 21 it was quite easy For me to pick between those shoes with These two they are I'd Ed them for the Same reasons I definitely wouldn't use These Sho shoes if I wanted something I Could run faster in um and I definitely Wouldn't um pick either of these shoes If I wanted something that had Performance benefits in um but the Difference between them I think really Comes down to that midell foam and I Think that the way that the trium 22 Midell foam has been developed just Means that it just loses um anything you Want from like bounce and um performance And things like that uh so it's a very Solid stable Max cushion shoe that That's all it really does might be good Sh if you're heel Striker and you want Something soft to land on uh but I just Don't get any of that softness from this Shoe so um it's fine I can run in it um But I just I just wouldn't pick it over A lot of the other cushion options out There things like the New Balance Mo V4 Where there's just a nicer turnover in That shoe it just feels works better for My style of running I just feel like I Can get a nice consistent Pace whereas With this it feels like I'm putting a Lot more effort in to maintain that Fluid that fluid Pace BR gling um is a Bit better I can definitely run quite Nicely in this shoe and if I'm going out
To a long run or if I'm going out to do An easy run very comfortable the midell Foam is probably a little bit firmer Than you're going to get in some cushion Shoes out at the moment but it's still a Very solid balanced cushioning uh and it Does a good job so out of these two I'm Definitely going for the Brooks Glycerin 21 um uh as my pig comes to verdict I Certainly prefer the Brooks gin 21 this Is one of my favorite cushion shoes just Because it is a really well balanced Shoe like it is comfortable it's cushion You go for long runs you can use it Every day it's going to protect the body Really nicely but you have got more of a Balanced midell foam there and midell Platform where it's wide and stable but You can still move a bit faster if you Want to you can turn your feet over well At the end of long runs at very relaxed Paces it's just a phone that I like and Get on with really well and it feels Very natural to run in the glycerin for Me Triumph just a little bit less so Like I think it's the changes here I Think will make it appealing to lots of People who very much like a protective Cushioned stable Cruiser of a shoe and It's got that wire base and it does feel Nice for those easy runs it's just not Really a type of shoe that I like a lot Personally would put in my rotation even For easy runs I prefer something like
The glycerin or even a slightly lower Stack shoe just cuz there's plenty of Comfort there still but you just have Like I say that more balanced platform That helps me turn my feet over and the Triumph doesn't do that so much like It's very protective but it does work Against you slightly more than the Glycerin at the end of long runs or you Know even at easy Paces so well I think It's a pretty solid shoe it's a Different shoe to the Triumph 21 I Probably slightly prefer the feeling of The Triumph 21 and I think actually the Brooks delivers a similar feeling to That and I probably prefer this DNA LOF V3 foam even to the feeling of the foam In the tri 21 and 20 I'm really big fan Of this foam and certainly would pick The glycerin 21 out of these two shoes As a result That's our comparison of the so Triumph 22 and the Brooks Glycerin 21 let us Know what you think in the comments Below please do like and subscribe ring The little bell and we'll see you next One
