Hello and welcome to run testers my name Is Nick in this video we're going to be Comparing the sakon rid 17 and the S Triumph [Music] 22 so the ride 17 and the Triumph 22 are Two cushions running shoes within s's Range the Triumph 22 is the more Expensive one it is £170 in the UK $160 In the US whereas the ride 17 is £135 And $140 Triumph is also the heaviest shoe is 322 G or 11.4 o in my UK size 9 whereas the Ride is 306 G or 10.8 o got a 10 mm drop On the Triumph and an 8 mm drop on the Ride the Triumph stack heite hits 37 mm At the heel and 27 at the 4ot whereas The ride is 35 mm at the heel and 27 at The 4ot so the ride 17 has a power run Plus midsole and sock liner on the shoe You've got an engineered mesh upper with A decent amount of padding around the Tongue and heel but not quite as much as You get on the triumph 22 and then You've got a rubber out sole with pretty Good coverage there you got all the key Impact areas are covered on the shoe There are some exposed foam areas but Not in places that are likely to see a Lot of wear and tear and the Triumph 22 You've got a power run PB midsole which Is sakan peer based foam the stuff that Has previously been used on shoes like The Endorphin speed and pro now makes it
Appearance in the Triumph 22 which is The big difference to the R 17 which Just the power run plus phone that was Used in previous models of the Triumph So with that power run pme midsole You've got a Athol light sock line You've got quite a wide base and side Walls of foam to ad ability to the shoe And a substantial internal heel counter Which is something you also get on the Ride 17 actually you've also got an Engineered mesh upper with like I say Even more padding around the tongue and Collar than you've got on the ride in General the upper is a bit thicker and More padded I'd say on the Triumph and Again you've got a rubber out soole There's more coverage of this on the Triumph compared to the ride but Shouldn't make too much difference in Terms of durability with both of them Like I say having the key impact areas Covered All right Tom let's start with the fit Of the two shoes do they fit your feet They both fit my feet they're both Absolutely fine I'd probably say that The ride is a little bit narrower but Not narrower by any major stretch of the Imagination I think it's a little bit More fitted but both are fine I'd buy Them in my UK size eight yeah I think They're both fine in my nor running Sho Size s are a pretty consistent brand and
They are quite consistent the only Concern I've got with the fit which Isn't concern with the fit so much is I Don't like these eyelets on the ride I Ripped through them when I was Tightening my laces once too weak these Eyelets I've never ripped any other Eyelets off uh got a slightly more Traditional and strong setup on the Triumph but yeah otherwise no concerns With the [Music] Fit all right Tom theun test uh couple Of interesting shoes here we've Basically got in my mind the Triumph 22 And the Triumph 21 with a different name The ride 17 how did you find the run Test in both of these I mean these are Both interesting updates to to these Shoes the uh I'll start with the ride The ride is um a massive update to the Previous ones I I was never massive fan Of the previous rides I always found to Be very nice simple um sort of old style Shoes they didn't have a lot of amazing Technology in them that a lot of shoes Have nowadays whereas the ride's come in And it's essentially revamped it a bit To become the you know the Triumph 21 Essentially same same same level of foam Same sort of feel um and as a result it I really like I really like the the new Ride I think it's um I think it's a Really comfortable solid shoe it's a bit
More Versatile um it's defin a bit cheaper as Well than um than than the tri 22 um and Uh it just does everything that you Expected from from from the tri 20 and The tri 21 I think it's um a really good Uh shoe that it maybe veers more towards The easier runs for me uh but you can Pick up the pace a little bit in it um So yeah I think it's really good shoe Fantastic yeah I like the R 17 a lot as Well like it's a probably the previous Mods I liked a bit more I like a Lightweight daily trainer and the Previous rides were more lightweight They're more simple like you say didn't Have particularly outstanding phones or Anything but they were I don't know I Think they almost represent the shift in The in the daily training Market here Which has gone from that kind of Lightweight allrounder shoe like the Ride and now all those shoes are getting A bit heavy a bit more cushioned and now You have the ride 17 which is probably Akin to what a cushion shoe was even Three four years ago and that's nice Enough like I like it fine I think it is A pretty versatile shoe I don't like Doing really fast stuff in the shoe I Would always use a more lightweight Daily training myself but as a cushion Shoe relax shoe I think it is pretty Good like I said it's very similar to
The TR 21 which we like a lot it's got a Lower offset it's got an 8 mm instead of A 10 mm but I didn't tend to find that Really made a huge difference to me in Practice like like a like an eight I Like a 10 and all around I thought it Was a pretty fun shoe all around and it Did certainly signal that a big change Was coming to the Triumph line because Obviously if you have this shoe so Similar to the Triumph 21 the Triumph 22 Had to be pretty different and it is Pretty different Tom and you absolutely Love it right uh not not really um so The tri 22 is a I talked about as many Times the soing 21 20 were couple of my Favorite shoes I used them for all sorts Of training they were sort of my go-to One when I used to go home and visit my Parents and had to was marathon training At the time I'd Pro and I could take one Pair of shoes I'd take the Triumph Because I could go and do the easy runs I could go faster if I wanted to she Should sort of perfect do it all shoe I Know people that ran marathons in in the Tri 20 20 21 I ran a marathon in the tri 22 but didn't really enjoy it um so the Charm 2 six days after another Marathon Always always good to get that get that In um but the uh yeah the the the D 22 Uh I think uh it really comes down to uh On paper it looks like a really exciting Update I'm a massive fan of s Dophin Pro
3 I love that phone uh it works really Well for me the that phone being put Power on PB phone being put into the Trium 22 uh it's a very different Feeling phone it feels a little bit Firmer for me uh I land in the Midsection of the shoe um and I don't Seem to get any Bounce from it I don't Feel any s sness if I walk on my heels I Can feel that softness I know this shoe Has softness in it um but I just don't Think I'm getting it um and I'm also not Getting a lot of bounceback and and Stuff from it I do think it feels a bit More stable um which I don't need so Again that's not benefit for me and I do Think it loses a little bit of a roll Rolling action in the shoe so um yeah it Doesn't work for me it's just a shoe That doesn't really work for me which is A shame because I really like the tri 21 Yeah I I like the ride is an indication Of what's happened to daily training is Quite a lot to be more cushion shoes the The Triumph 22 is an indication of What's happened to cushion shoes which Is they' become Max cushion shoes big Wide bases stable bases soft Foams Really geared up for comfort and that's What's happened to the Triumph me to and I don't really mind it like it was fine For me I rolled through a lot of easy Runs and there I land at the heel and You definitely get a softer feeling in
The shoe I think than Tom's getting when He runs in it Landing in the midfoot and That's quite nice it's soft it's not Particularly bouncy which is surprising Given the foam here I thought you would Get more spring back but it doesn't Really happen and it just feels like a Big Cruis shoe for easy runs that's fine I don't I quite like that you know I Want an easy run but it's not the kind Of shoe I tend to really buy or enjoy Having my rotation myself but there Clearly is a market for it out there and I guess s thought they weren't hitting It that well with the triumph which was More of a cushion daily trainer like we Talked about it was a bit more similar To The Ride 17 and the 22 has now gone After that you know that big cushioned Premium materials our best foam and a Big wide base shoe that everyone can use And get those kind of benefits and yeah It's surprising it doesn't really feel Like a power run PB shoe as we expected It to based on our experience with that Phone before feels like a big Cruiser But I definitely think the ride 17 is a More versatile shoe it's a shoe that you Can use day training while it is still Very comfortable I think I don't really Think you're sacrificing a lot of Comfort with this design here but you've Got that bigger shoe here bigger wider At The Wider at the back sidewalls of
Foam nice stability elements and it will Be a shoe that people I think will Really love some people but I just don't Think it's a shoe that people who love The Triumph 21 will necessarily really Love they' probably going to look more At the ride 17 if I was them Verdict then two big shoes lots of Cushioning durable shoes expensive shoes In the case of the Triumph 22 i' take For me they'd both be easy day shoes but There is probably more versatility in The ride I think Tom you'd say you Prefer the ride right yeah okay so There's two ways you can look at it this Uh if you compare these two shoes and Take price out of the equation I would Go for the ride I think it's more Versatile I think it's more uh Comfortable to wear it works for my Style of running a little bit better and It just it just feels like a nicer shoe Especially um just a little bit more Rolling from it I it's essentially Feeling like the TR 21 which is you what I really really like um the other way of Looking at it is if you do include price And the ride 17 is by far the the best Choice based on price so either way I Look at it I'm going ride 17 because I Just think it's a much better rounded uh More versatile shoe that um yeah just Has a lot more benefits from it Tri 22 For me is now gone from being versatile
To being quite specific in how people Would use it uh and I I think at that Price point there are I mean even at a Lower price point I think there are Better options out there for what the Shoe possibly is trying to do now yeah I' would say unless you're coming to This looking for a very soft big Cushioned very stable Max stack shoe and You've got an idea about that you've Liked other shoes like that maybe think Like the Nike invincible and you really Want that really big shoe that Cruiser Shoe the Triumph does do that but unless You're really looking for that I would Say the R 17 is the better shoe so if You want a more versatile shoe it's the R 17 if you're just someone who's Looking for a shoe you're quite new to Running I think the 17 is a better Choice I think if you want a nice Protective cushion shoe to add to your Rotation I'd probably still use the R 17 Myself for that because it's you know it Is still very cushioned and lightweight So yeah I think you've got to really Have an idea of what you want in the Triumph to be that big Cruiser and I Think it is much more nichu now than it Was before but you know it is quite a Big Niche I think these days so if you Really are after that all out kind of Cushy feeling you land on your heels Like me and you want that softness there
You are going to get it a bit more of The trium but I do think the ride is a Pretty comfortable shoe it's cheaper and You are getting probably a lot more from It um so yeah and certainly if you were A fan of the previous model of the Triumph I'd probably say go for the the Ride over the Triumph and you're not Losing a lot of stuff as well like You're still got a great outsole on the Ride um the upper still pretty pretty Similar I'd say May the tri 2 got Slightly more plush up upper but got Better lace isets that's well let's not Talk about those lace again we know me Is it good value if you have to do this Well I've never had problems with LA Isets um been really angry that day Other than that it's not like you're Losing anything sometimes when you when You compare these shoes with a lower um Cost ones you lose a load of outsole and Stuff but there's nothing really in it For me that I would massively say you're Getting more from so definitely ride 17 All the way from me in all accounts
