Each month the Run Testers try out piles of running products, but there’s a lot of kit outside of shoes and tech that we don’t get a chance to talk about until we do a full round-up.

In this month’s video, we cover running caps, jackets, recovery shoes and socks. Enjoy.

Hey Tommy from the Run testers and Welcome back to the monthly Roundup this Is the video where we talk about all the Things that we've been testing over the Past few weeks that we had a chance to Talk about in other videos that we' put Out sometimes we get comments on this Video the uh from people saying that the Kit we choose is quite expensive so I've Tried to put in uh more cost- effective Items uh in my section of this video Also if you go into the cat below you Can find links to the majority of the Products in this video some of those are Affiliate links so if you do end up Buying them we will make a bit of Commission from that uh so just be aware If you um were planning to do that right Let's dive in and have a look at what we Picked this Month first pick this month then is a Running vest now for me running vests Are all about balance you want a Combination of comfort fit storage easy Access All of those things obviously choosing a Pack depends on the distance you're Going to cover the kit needs what you've Got to carry all of that kind of stuff But what I really love about this sey Flow vest is that it's really versatile It's got enough spash base for longer Ultra races but it doesn't feel baggy if You're just using it as a convenient way

To carry water and fuel and a few extras For a 20m marathon training run it's got A great fit with a slightly padded Bounce-free harness with a hook Fastening system that's easy to adjust And pull cool securely doesn't work Loose either I haven't had it on the Runs no matter how much kit I have in it It's all quite padded and protected Which softens any kit lumps and bumps Some stuff you might have particularly Up front here speaking of which it comes With two 500 mil soft flasks and a good Practical amount of storage you get two Big zippered stash Side Pockets great For stashing a phone or things you don't Want to lose then you have these big Open drop in pockets on the side as well That have handy toggles to secure things You also really don't want to lose on The back there is one big main Compartment that's big enough for a Jacket waterproof trousers along with Another zippered smaller pocket on the Rear you get a built-in whistle and Finally there are some clever details Like detachable cords here for holding Poles overall it's a really practical Long run vest with a bit more structure To it now at £270 this is a pretty pricey jacket but It is excellent It's a seam sealed Waterproof windproof brilliantly Lightweight outer layer that's been

Keeping me drying warm during some Pretty harsh wet and wild 20 M marathon Training runs this winter it's got a Hydrostatic head rating of 10,000 so It's compliant with mandatory Race Kit Because it got sealed seams as well that Is a big tick it avoids being bin bag Sweaty when you're working hard as well That's another thing that I really like It's also race Fest friendly when you'll Pack it down it packs down to into its Own pocket speaking of pockets the lower Zipper pocket you get here is good for Stashing stuff without too much bounce I've had headphones uh head cases Keys Other bits in here without too much Movement it's also got a two-way main Zip here a cap friendly Hood I also love This vibrant blue color which reminds me A little bit of the world's greatest Football team which is Everton of course I will be packing this jacket when I Take on the trans Grand Canaria Marathon Later this February final pick then I Got sent these a while back as part of An intro kit pack from sudu now until Recently I was using these as a Lightweight kind of tracky be for Walking up to the gym or as a quick Post Run layer for those sort of cold runs When I wanted to put something on They've been great for that but as Temperature dropped I also started using Them for runs like my one mile commute

To the gym and I realized how much I Really like them as a lightweight Alternative to run tights if you're not Keen on the shorts over tights look or The everything on show tights look or The tight hugging feeling you get from Tights these are an ace alternative They're light loose and flexible nicely Fitting without being baggy and Distracting thanks to the tapered legs That you get what I really like is that The fabric provides just enough Protection when things get close to zero They're really good for taking the edge Off those first few steps out of the Front door when you're a bit scared of The cold but then they don't overheat Once you're warmed up and you're moving Faster they dry fast too you've got two Zippered pockets on the front as well One on the back so good storage for a p TRS like this I do wish the lower legs Were zippered as well to make it easier To get them on and off over the shoes There's just not quite enough stretch in There but overall I found these are Great winter beater and I think they'll Also be good for those kind of light Spring summer sort of runs where you Know maybe it's later in the evening you Just want something to take the edge off As you're wandering back from a track Session or the like these are the Pudu Run

Pants so my first monthly pick is this Jacket and this is the Jan thermal Runner insulated jacket now I've been Testing this over the last couple of Months and I think it's fair to say it Definitely has been jacket weather for Running now I'm not a massive fan of Running with jackets in general you know But if I can find something that is Light enough you know doesn't restrict My movement doesn't get too kind of hot And sweaty um maybe offers a little bit Of kind of protection against you know Rain as well and as a bonus maybe can be Stowed away or packed away you know Sometimes I do end up taking that jacket Off when I am running or you know midr Run so those are the kind of qualities I Look for those are the kind of things I Found have worked very well for me on This jacket now I am a fan of the Jan Kind of range in general their running Collection and perel I use their caps I Use storage half tights for racing and For training and if you are looking for Storage half tights they are fantastic Um but this jacket has been a nice kind Of added bonus in terms of what I think They kind of offer in their range I Think first and foremost for me is nice And light you know it's not adding Unnecessary bulk I think it weighs over 100 gram 130 gram so it's not very heavy There is some protection against water

So it's kind of water repellent and Fully waterproof but I think you know When it is kind of lighter rain it's Been absolutely fine there's some Protection against wind in terms of that Design line as well too there's good Pockets there you've got two Side Pockets you've got that kind of pocket Up top which you can kind of pack the Jacket away in as I said it hasn't Restricted my moving it's added just Enough warmth without feeling too kind Of hot and sticky having it under a few Kind of extra layers and you say Obviously you're not you're going to Still have to wear it with a few layers But you know generally it's it's not Added too much bulk for me um you know It is a jacket that is predominantly Designed for kind of Trail runs but I Think you know like a lot of Janie range You can use it for Road runs and it's Going to will work absolutely fine now I Quite like the color as well in true Kind of jany style there are a few color Options I think this one is sold out at The moment but there are some other Color um options available there too so Yeah it's been a jacket that's worked Really well for me as I said over the Last couple of months it's been one that I've felt very comfortable to grab for Kind of easy runs kind of longer runs Slightly quicker runs knowing that it's

Giving me that extra level of warmth Without you know fitting too bulky a Little bit of protection against the Rain or kind of lighter rain really and As I do I do tend to at times take my Jacket off mid run and it's been easy to Kind of do that pack it away and kind of Either hold it or kind of store it away As well so yeah that is the Janie Thermal Runner insulated jacket my Second monthly pick are these These are The Sony link buds open now I've like The Jan jacket I've had these for a Couple of months to test I've had a lot Of running headphones or Sports Headphones to test over the last couple Of months these are the ones that have Really stood out for me now I'll hold my Hands up and say that I do prefer using Kind of kind of traditional truly kind Of while it's airbuds you know I like Active noise cancellation I like to Block out the world but I can appreciate That there's more of a kind of demand For open a headphones particularly you Know if you're running on your own if You want to kind of more safer way to Listen to your music and still be aware Of your surroundings now for me the link Buds open the way I look at it is that You've got things like the Bose Ultra Open which are really expensive you know Offer really good quality opening sound For a really discret elegant kind of per

Form factor now these come in cheaper Than the Bose Ultra open and I see them As an alternative to those now we've Tested the link buds the original link Buds we kind of really enjoyed uh what They offered now I think in terms of the Improved design in terms of that kind of More reliable fit you know I think That's a massive kind of step forward For Sony in terms of improving it for Kind of a running and kind of sports Perspective I think you know I preferred The fit of these compared to the bo Ultra open which I had problems with and I've definitely had more ESS with these For kind of racing for kind of you know Longer runs kind of shorter sharper runs These have been a lot better in terms of That fit sound quality from an open air Point of view is very good you've got a An app that gives you plenty of Customization it can feel quite Overwhelming but that's a lot to kind of Custom customize and Tinker with to make Sure you get an open a sound that works Well for you and I do think the sound Quality in general has been very Polished for me not the best in class But definitely very very good the Controls probably a little bit in the f Side there kind of these gesture Controls which you know I think know use Physical controls I think that would be The way forward for me battery life has

Been solid overall not the again you Know the best available on open ear Headphones but good enough to get you Through you know weeks worth of running And you've got kind of nice kind of Dinky charging case that you can power Them up with as well so yeah as I said I've had a bunch of kind of running Headphones Sports headphones to test Over the last couple of months the Sony Link buds open have been really you know Ones for me that have kind of stood out For the right reasons as I said I look At these as an alternative a cheap Alternative to the Bose Ultra open for Me a more reliable fit you know maybe Not the same level of open a sound but Very good nonetheless and plenty of kind Of room to kind of customize and you Know play around with settings here to Get more out of these so yeah my second Monthly pick are the Sony link buds Open my first pick this month is the OS O cozy recovery Slippers um someone recently said it Looks like there's um a bin bag and a Marshmallow um had some kind of love Child so I'll let you make your your own Decisions about that but having bought The OS sliders many years ago myself I've banged on about them to loads of People so I was really interested to try These especially as we've got Stone Floors and the weather had got a bit

Cold so just like the OS sliders these Have this o foam which is a really Annoying terminology but it's this this Foam here you can't really see cuz it's Inside the slider but um which they say It's called a closed cell foam which Offers apparently 37 37% more impact Absorption than Eva which is what um you Use in some basic running shoes and also In traditional flip-flops and stuff like That now I don't know about that I don't Can't find out that much more about the Technology it's washable which is pretty Good um but I was such a fan of the Sliders because of the way that it Supported my high arches without feeling Like a weird or aggressive which some of The kind of inserts do and it was an Absolute Lifesaver for me uh when I T my Planta fascia and kind of any sub um Subsequent plant of fasciitis just felt Like really supportive but not kind of Odd um and when I spoke to the OS team They talked about how the foam is Designed that it supports but it doesn't Kind of stop the foot working so it's Not like so marshmallowy that your foot Kind of sinks into it and just goes it's Um and and it does feel like that it Feels really supportive but in a good Way then on to the kind of the Cozy side Of this they have this thing called the Primaloft Al Ultra insulation um now They are extremely warm so they're great

To go to uh for after a cold run or in a Cold house one person I spoke to said he Wasn't convinced until he went outside In one degree weather to chop wood in Them but I'm not sure I need that level Of insulation but I do enjoy it it keeps My toes really nice and warm so I think They're a good recovery shoe I'd use Them more around the house in general Than specifically for Recovery I Actually think the slider is better for True recovery as it really kind of Pushes your foot more into the correct Spot for the support Um now onto the price £100 it's a lot For a slipper if you're going for Marginal gains maybe that's not that Much when you might be spending like 300 Quid on a carbon plate ratio but I think It's quite a hard sale but I would Absolutely ask my family to join Together and get me them as a present Cuz they feel like the kind of icing on The cake type thing they're Non-essential but they're a lovely Useful thing to have if you don't mind The slightly odd looks of them I think They're a bit Marite um they got close To being banned in our house um but I I Quite like them to be honest I think They're quite fun I am um I'm not about To show you these in person I'm not About to show you my pants um but I'm Going to tell you about some pants that

I was sent they are the rebok bonded Suki hipster brief um they come in a Pack of £326 so they're not the cheapest But they're also not the most expensive So this they're this polyamide lastin Mix which if you've come across kind of No vpl Slinky feel kind of texture pants Um I mean I can hold them up here you Can't really um I'll just say these Haven't been worn so I'm not waving Dirty pants around in front of you but You know they're quite loose and they're Quite Slinky feeling um I've worn the Other colors out of the pack to test Them um when I put them on you can see They're fairly small um so I would Normally want something which comes up Higher on my waist and I felt like maybe They wouldn't stay up and they would Move around too much but actually to be Fair I've used them on long runs under Cycling short style running shorts and Under normal running shorts and they Have absolutely stayed put and I've had No chafing at all and I do think Sometimes if you're wearing like the Cycling short style ones actually you Don't want a visible pant line it just Isn't a nice look if you're hanging Around with your mates afterwards or Whatever like obviously it's not the Biggest thing in the world I don't care That much but it's quite nice so if You're not a fan of a thong um but you

Want something that's kind of at the Smaller end of the spectrum and less Likely to give you that vpl and they Don't chafe because they've got this Bonded seam um and then just the tiniest Of little Stitch at the top to hold it All in place um but there's nothing to Chafe there because there aren't any Kind of actual seams so it's very good If you're doing long runs and wearing Tight fitting shorts and things like That so um they they used to be a Similar kind that runderwear made but They stopped making that kind and They've made the completely bonded ones That are kind of more this like um kind Of knitty kind of material but these are Much more on the kind of Slinky end of Things um but yes as I say no no rubbing Stayed put and um maybe slightly Aesthetically pleasing when it comes to Not having a visible pant line finally This month it's some socks I feel like I Get very invested in certain sort of Companies I've talked about monkey socks In the past and the reasons I love that Company and um and this case it's a Female run company from Sheffield uh but Happily their products Merit that Feeling of in invested that I've got in Them um I've tried their running shorts Before the company is bimble and bolt And I've really enjoyed the running Shorts I think they're really lovely and

Soft they're just the right round fit They're great high waist Etc um and I Was really grateful to be sent one of Their Runners Advent calendars which is Is a great present for any runner in Your life by the way just buy them one Of those um in the Advent calendar um Over a couple of days were basically Three pairs of socks amongst various Other things um and they're classic Socks and they have been my most used Running socks in December and January And I've been hitting like 60 mile weeks And I basically just reach for those Ones pretty much every day there's Nothing crazy or ground bre breaking About them they just do what they do Very well they're the right thickness They're not too hot they're not too Lightweight that they're a f to get on They've got a little compression band Over the middle and round under the arch Which holds them in place and the toe Box is like thick enough but flexible Enough to prevent blisters I've done an 18 mile running them no problem at all And I like the designs as well they're Not shouty they're quite muted but They're fun and they've got the bimble And bolt one on each sock so they're Just like a really nice good solid sock1 For a pair of sock pair of sock1 for a Sock is um is actually in the scheme of Running socks not that bad um and these

Ones seem to be lasting incredibly well Um the lightest pair I've got a little Bit of bobbling on but they're not Wearing there's no sign that there's Going to be any holes in them anytime Soon and they've had plenty of wearing Them over these two months so I am a big Fan of those and I know it's where they Started their business as well so that's Always a good good sign I think that That's something that they've developed Um over a long time and obviously have Put a lot of development time into So the three items that I'm picking this Month are all the cathlon items I've Been testing a lot the cathlon kit Recently uh and I've really been Enjoying it um all quite cost effective Um but all pretty good quality as well So the first one is this Kon five panel Water resistant cap this is $12.99 I Love caps I buy caps all the time I've Got a massive collection of caps I have To keep getting rid of them because I've Got too many um but this one's quite an Interesting one because um it's is Because it's water repellent it's pretty Much a winter cap I wouldn't use this uh In the in the summer it would probably Be too hot um but when you're out in the Rain and you're looking for something to Protect you from uh the rain hitting Your head uh this is really good so uh Water when it hits the top of the cap

Just beads and rolls off um it takes a Takes quite a lot to actually make the Cap damp um but it's also pretty Lightweight as well it's very Comfortable um it's five panel which is Sort of caps that I like to wear um it Has some reflective properties on it um And also the back section is uh this Sort of velcro uh design which is not my Favorite I prefer a bookle at the back But it's absolutely fine I NOS shees out On the run on it um it's not the most Breathable cap around but but that's Because it's it's water resistant so I'd Say this is pretty much a cap that I Would Reserve purely for um the winter Months when it's raining the next pick For me this month are these uh kiprun Evolutive V2 um running gloves so these Are really nice comfortable lightweight Gloves um and they're they're pretty Good in well they're winter gloves Basically you wouldn't use these in Summer or anything you get quite hot but Um in the winter they're really good They they're fairly medium thickness They're not really lightweight gloves um But they're also not really thick as Well so um I I went running in them Today and it was about 7° absolutely Fine um they also have uh these M this Mitten cover on so you can cover the um Fingers up with this extra bit of um Cloth that goes over it uh it just gives

You a bit more wind protection a little Bit more warmth uh when you need it and Then you just pull it off it's very easy To do on the run you just pull it off And just stick it back in also has some Um reflective qualities uh on it and uh It's pretty easy to use your uh Smartphone with this as well so um I I Was changing songs on Spotify and stuff Today and it was absolutely fine you can Open your phone with these and works Very very well so these are really good Cost effective pair of gloves that are Actually really really good and well Worth having in your Arsenal if you're Looking for um something to take you Through the next couple of months Definitely in the UK um and if you want Just to take the chill off so worth Picking those up for they are $9.99 my Final pick this month is the uh kiprun Run 500 warm long sleeve top uh so this Is long sleeve running top uh it's got a Zip that goes down the front up um just Just down to the chest area um and it's Got quite High color on it as well it's Really good uh when it's quite cold so I Don't like wearing a jacket too much When I'm going out for a run unless it's Really really cold um if I if it's Anything above about 4° and I go out With a jacket I end up just getting Really really hot by about 3K and then I End up with a jacket on that I don't

Want to be wearing um so this sits just Underneath that so you wouldn't wear a T-shirt with this you could use it as a Base layer you could use it as a top Coat but it's quite a thick one so I'd Say it's best placed for the colder Months uh you definitely won't take this Through to you know when the temperature Start picking up in the spring it'll be Too warm for you but in the colder Months it's perfect because um it's not Too thick uh you I probably wouldn't Ever wear a jacket on top of this cuz I Think I'd just be too hot but if you not If it's sort of R doesn't really wearing A jacket that much this is a good option For the winter it's really comfortable Material um it's got this sort of soft Inside layer which is very nice and very Comfortable to wear feels a lot more Expensive than it actually is um it's Got the zip at the front which is really Good I generally run with a zip down After about 2k to just to cool down a Bit uh and the other thing it has as Well is uh thumb hooks which are an Essential for me on any of my running Long sleeve tops uh I really like thumb Thumb hooks so works really well uh bit Of reflective detailing on the back as Well overall it's just a really good Value running top if you look at some of The running tops from Big Brands you're Looking upwards of50 uh nowadays which

Is quite a lot of money for a long Sleeve running top for the winter Especially when most of the time you're Probably running in the dark in it um so Yeah it's a really really worth getting Very uh effective comfortable um and Definitely does the job when it gets Very very cold so that's it from us this Month thanks a lot for watching don't Forget to like subscribe and click that Little bell and if you're go to catch me Below you can find to our podcast which Comes out a couple of times each month Thanks a lot for watching catch you next Time
