This is the latest Ultra Boost from Adidas the ultra boost 5 is it the best Ultra boost ever let's find out the Ultra boost 5 or I guess in this case The ultra boost 5x is the latest Ultra Boost sneaker from Adidas and right off The bat the naming Convention of this Sneaker is a little bit weird because This is definitely not the fifth Ultra Boost the ultra boost line started back In 2015 with the ultra boost 1.0 which Is my favorite Ultra boost of all time For a lot of different reasons after That we had a few iterative updates all Numbered versions of the ultra boost and Then in 2019 we had the ultra boost 2019 Which in a lot of ways was a complete Redesign of the sneaker and then after After the 19 we had the 20 and the 21 And the 22 and then the ultra boost Light which was the most recent version Of the shoe and the way that I've always Seen it is that right in between the Ultra boost 4.0 and the ultra boost 2019 There're sort of this break that Separates the line in two halves the Original Ultra boost was designed to be The best running sneaker of all time and When it first released it kind of was Boost was absolutely incredible and at The time in 2015 the ultra boost was Probably the most comfortable shoe on The market so Not only was 1.0 like the Best Max cushion performance running
Sneaker on the market it was also a Lifestyle hit people wanted to wear Boost because of how soft it was Underfoot and for the next couple years The ultra boost stayed pretty similar There were changes but not huge changes And interestingly enough over the next Couple years the ultra boost went from a Performance running sneaker in most People's eyes to purely a lifestyle shoe And it seems like that's when Adidas Decided to bring the ultra boost back to Its roots and create the ultra boost 2019 which was supposed to be a great Running sneaker again and I'll be honest While yes it was comfortable underfoot And it was fine for running it wasn't Anything Exceptional kind of looked ugly and to Be real most of the ultra boosts that Came after that were also pretty ugly And from a consumer's point of view the Only thing that was changing with the Ultra boost year-over-year was the fact That they were adding a little bit more Boost in the midsole every year and just Making it even chunkier than it already Was so people really just seem to get Sick of the ultra boost line the 1.0 Weren't as popular anymore because People just didn't like the aesthetic as Much as they used to the newer Ultra Boost just weren't that exciting but it Looks like in 2024 Adidas is trying to
Change all of that and make the ultra Boost popular once again by creating a Pair of sneakers the ultra boost 5 that Sort of fits in the gap between the Original line of ultra boost and then The ultra boost 19 in a lot of ways it Feels like this is a missing link Between the original Ultra Boo and the Newer Ultra boo like this is a shoe that Should have been in the middle and I'll Be honest when I first heard about this Shoe I was really hopeful I was hopeful That this shoe would take all of the Best parts of all the previous Ultra Boost and combine them into one shoe That supposedly is supposed to be the Best Ultra boost of all time and over The last few days I've been wearing the Adidas Ultra boost 5x which essentially Is the five but we'll get into those Details a little bit later on in the Video I've been running in it I've been Walking in it I've been wearing it as Much as I possibly can and in today's Video I'm going to tell you everything I Think about it and we this shoe was Actually the best Ultra boost of all Time or whether it's kind of somewhere In the middle oh and not only that also How comfortable it is but first let's Get into the release information and Also the pricing of the ultra boost 5 And 5x and technically at the time of Filming this video this shoe is not
Actually officially released I believe It officially releases on July 20th I Personally did not get my pair from Adidas they didn't even offer to send me A pair I just bought this through Early Access on the Adidas app because I Believe if you are an Indus member you Can get early access to specific shoes And the ultra boost 5x at least in men's Sizing was a shoe that you could get get Early access to although oddly enough When I went to my local Adidas store a Couple days before the release of the Shoe there was a bunch of pairs of fives And 5xs just sitting on the shelf so I Probably could have just bought them in Store early that being said the Adidas Ultra boost 5 and Ultra boost 5x both Retail for 180 bucks of course if you Want to grab any of the ultra boost Sneakers that I mentioned in today's Video like the 5 5x or even the ultra Boost 1.0 I've linked them all through Affiliate links in the description below And on the YouTube shopping tab on your Screen even though the price of this Shoe hasn't changed over the last like 10 years even with inflation still feels Like a lot of money I mean kudos to Adidas for not raising the price they Probably could have I mean look at the Air Force one that went up in price by Like $15 over the last 2 years the ultra Boost has not raised in price since I
Believe 2015 when it first released that Said there are some other running Sneakers on the market that are priced At like 140 and 150 that in a lot of Ways I actually prefer and of course We'll get into that later on in the Video but with that being said $180 just a lot of money now you've Heard me talk a lot about the ultra Boost 5 and 5x and I want to explain the Difference between these two shoes Before dive any deeper into the review And let me just say it's it's not a huge Difference the only difference between The five and the 5x is the fact that the Five has a midfoot cage and the 5x Doesn't now the reason for that is that The 5x is supposed to be a lighter shoe And removing the midfoot cage does Actually make the shoe lighter but I Would argue why even include the midfoot Cage why not just release the five and Make it midfoot cage less I mean you Still get some of the midfoot cage Aesthetics on the 5x with just the Paneling on the upper of the shoe my Only guess as to why they released two Versions of the shoe is because they Wanted one the five to look look a Little bit more like a traditional pair Of ultra boost and then the 5x is their I guess uh slightly more premium version But they both cost the same amount of Money so it doesn't make a lot of sense
To me now personally for me the midfoot Cage on the ultra boost at least on These newer models of the ultra boost Has never really made that big of a Difference to me it doesn't really help Tighten the shoe that much around my Foot and if you're looking for I guess a More snug fit or a more personalized Lace enclosure then maybe go with the Five but the 5x for me fits great we'll Talk about fit later on in the video and I just don't see a need for the five Personally and weirdly enough online Seems like the 5x is significantly more Available than the five of course the Shoes haven't officially released yet But at least on Adidas's website and Even in store I really only saw the 5x So like I said I've been wearing the Ultra boost 5x for the last couple days And before we actually dig into the Materials let's talk about fit all right So I've been wearing the ultra boost 5 For about day and a half at this point I've run it a couple times and so far so Good I think sizing is definitely true To size very comfortable under fooot the Boost is soft it's all entirely under my Foot which is a good thing I'm a size N9 This is a size N I think trud size is The way to go even if you have slightly Wider feet I think you should still be Fine especially in the 5x version of the Shoe without the cage but uh overall
Feels good recommend true to size but of Course if you have the chance to try the Sh on first before you buy it make sure To do that to make sure that you're Grabbing the right size for you back to The studio but now let's get into the Materials and make up the ultra boost 5 And 5x and starting off around the toe Of the sneaker you've got what Adidas Calls adaptive Prime nit which they say Moves better with your foot than I guess Standard primit now personally I've Never had a problem with prime it moving With my feet it's always been great I've Always loved it I guess it's just a new Marketing term that they're using but I Will say in the center of the toe it Does seem like the prime is a little bit Different than what I'm used to and That's because it looks like they've Actually weaved in some sort of Plasticky type of thread now according To Adidas's website 20% of the weight of The shoe is made up of recycled Materials and I can only assume that This sort of thread or yarn is probably Some sort of recycled plastic or Something like that but either way like Most pairs of ultra sneakers that Feature Prime on the upper it's very Soft it's very breathable this area does Seem to be a little bit stretchier than The other primate areas on the shoe Probably because it's got that sort of
Bouncy plasticky yarn but yeah Absolutely complaints it was incredibly Comfortable on foot it breathed really Really well I like it and I like the new Pattern that they went with on the toe Of the shoe it's cool around the edges Of the toe you've got a slightly thicker Prime knit which should be better for Durability always a good thing and then The plasticky knit in the center of the Toe seems to be a slightly wider knit so You get a bit more breathability in that Area all around good I've absolutely Never had a problem with prime knit I've Always loved it in fact I think it's Probably my favorite knit technology From a brand fly knits fine but it Always feels a little bit stiff New Balance has their own knit which is fine But it's usually backed with something Which makes it I don't know not as soft Or as comfortable or as sock like and as Someone who owns a sock company I love Things that are sock like it's so stupid I mean I guess if I'm going to mention The sock company you might as well plug It if you guys want the best socks out There you got to check out my sock brand Apothecary we make socks that are Incredibly breathable incredibly soft Very stretchy and they look great with All the sneakers in your collection and Of course I'm wearing Apothecary socks And all the b-roll shots of today's
Video you guys may have noticed that Pink pair of socks that I'm rocking That's actually from an early collection That we have coming out I believe in the Next couple months and I thought it Would match nice with the pink on the Midsole of the shoe that's that's the Reason I'm rocking it but if you guys Want to grabb some other awesome limited Collections they're all available on our Website link through the YouTube Shopping tab on your screen and also in The description below moving up in the Shoe you get to the eye stay of the Sneaker which on the 5x is not part of The midfoot cage because there is no Midfoot cage instead you've got this um I guess kind of stiff I stay rail thing That I didn't even notice when it was on My feet I had no issues with it Whatsoever of course running through the Eyelets you've got flat laces and then Underneath the laces you've got another Widely knit area which is sort of the I Guess top part of the one piece Constructed tunn it's all connected in One big sock like upper again the tongue Area of the shoe very breathable and Then of course the laces do a good job Of keeping your feet locked in the shoe The flat laces also do a good job with Staying tied I've had trouble with laces Getting untied over runs um and these Ones didn't seem to have that issue at
The top of the tongue ankle area you've Got the Adidas 3 Stripes logo and then Moving inside the shoe around the the Heel area of the shoe you've got this Pretty nicely padded mesh fabric kind of Looks like the mesh that you have in Ball shorts but it's really well padded It's not like incredibly plush but it Does a good job of keep keeping your Heel comfortable and like most pairs of Ultra boost that's really the only plush Padding that you have on the shoe the Rest of the upper your foot is just up Against the prime nit which is fine cuz It feels like a sock and it's breathable When running in this shoe I really Appreciated the breathability it was Great it was very very airy because this Shoe was so light I believe this shoe at Least in a size N9 which is my size is 9.7 Oz at least in the 5x version it Really was one of those shoes that you Kind of forget that you're wearing I Mean it's definitely not the lightest Shoe that I've ever had but it's Definitely one of the lightest Ultra Boost and if you're used to running an Ultra boost you will probably appreciate The lighter weight rounding off the Inside of the shoe you've got this very Thin foam insole that doesn't really do Much at least on this color way it comes In yellow with the alra text on the heel In white continuing back on the shoe
You've got the Adidas three stripes in Place of the midfoot cage they're kind Of a uh definitely reflective material I Don't know exactly what they are maybe TPU some kind of thin rubbery material That's kind of heat pressed or glued Onto the upper even though there was no Midfoot cage on this shoe I did find That the containment was really good now I have regular width feet they're not Too wide they're not too narrow this Shoe fit my foot great it didn't slide Round it didn't feel too snug it was Awesome even after a couple runs and Even after just walking in the shoe all Day felt good really no complaints with The upper whatsoever but hey maybe You're looking for a more customizable Fit in that case maybe the ultra boost 5 Is better for you because you get a Little bit more of the the sze of the Shoe being pulled together but I really Didn't feel like I needed that I like The alleged lighter weight I don't have The ultra boost 5ivs to compare but they Apparently are lighter uh of the ultra Boost 5x so that's the one that I went With also because it was really the only Option that I had available continuing Around to the heel of the shoe you've Got your classic ultra boost clip in This sort of light grayish plastic with The ultra boost text in pink to match The midsole and then finally rounding
Off the heel of the shoe you've got the Adidas three stripes on the pull tab now Unlike previous Ultra boost sneakers and Actually similar to some of the older Ultra boost sneakers the primate doesn't Wrap all the way around the shoe however In the heel area of the shoe the primate Never really did anything because there Was always padding in the heel of the Shoe and if there's no room for the Material to stretch and if you don't Feel the material stretching it's kind Of pointless for it to be there so I'm Fine with them switching out the prime Nate for this more more standard Traditional fabric I will say though on The original Ultra boost 1.0 the prime It actually stopped like Midway through The shoe and because of that the ankle Opening of the shoe wasn't stretchy Enough in my opinion with most of the Newer Ultra boost sneakers including the 2.0 3.0 Etc the prime it runs to like The midpoint of the ankle opening so it Gives you a lot more stretch at least in The front half of the shoe to get your Foot in there so there hasn't really Been an issue with getting into the shoe Since the ultra boost 1.0 actually I Don't remember was the 20 difficult to Get into or the 21 I don't remember Either way this shoe's fine to get into No complaints from what I tell over the Last couple days of testing the heel
Clip did do a good job of keeping my Foot locked in place I was really happy With that like I said the fit overall Was solid I had no issues whatsoever It's not like some of the previous Ultra Boost sneakers which did not fit your Dis size uh a lot of the previous Ultra Boo sneakers didn't fit your dis size But it seems like they finally got it Right with the ultra boost 5 and uh I'm Happy with the fit then moving down on The shoe you get to the part of the Sneaker that everyone wants to know About and that of course is the Boost Midsole and in the case of the ultra Boost 5 and 5x they've switched out the Standard boost for Boost light or light Boost and I've got to say for the first Time in a while I was actually pretty Happy with the boost midsole on this Shoe with some of the older Ultra boost Sneakers like the 19 and 20 and 21 and 22 the Boost kind of seemed more of like A gimmick than anything else and it's Not that it was it's just that the heel Areas of the shoe had so much excessive Boost like on the 22 there was this Giant triangle of boost coming off the Back of the shoe that did nothing on the 21 or 20 the Boost kind of like crept up Onto the heel area of the shoe and made It look like there was a lot more boost Underneath your foot than there actually Was it was purely a marketing thing and
It just made the shoe head and I didn't Like it and also on some of the more Recent Ultra boost sneakers the drop From Heel To Toe was incredibly dramatic In fact in the toe area of the shoe There was not that much boost and that's An area that I like to have at least Some boost I mean on the original Ultra Boost while there was definitely a drop There there was still a decent amount of Boost in the forefoot of the shoe really Not that much less than from the heel of The shoe and on some of the newer Ultra Boost it just seemed like you're on this Slope and that caused a lot of problems For me and I'm sure other people one Because there wasn't a lot of cushion in The 4 foot and two because that drop was Just extreme on the ultra boost 5 and 5x The drop is 10 mm but they did a really Good job of keeping the Boost somewhat Consistent all the way through the shoe You finally have a decent amount of Boost underneath your 4 foot and you Feel it underneath your 4 foot in fact The difference in boost cushion Underneath your 4 foot on the I was About to call this the 2024 on the five And the 5x is much more noticeable than The difference in boost on the heel of The Shoe versus the previous version of The shoe if that makes sense I think I Got confused essentially this shoe is More evenly cushioned than most recent
Ultra boost sneakers according to ultra Boost it features 5% more boost which uh I I don't know how to quantify that but Apparently it does and as they say on The foref foot of the shoe they're using Light boost instead of standard boost Which I will say is definitely lighter Than the ultra boost 22 now is it as Light as the ultra boost light I Couldn't tell you off hand cuz I don't Have that shoe anymore but it does feel Very light in the hand as far as overall Underfoot Comfort the ultra boost 5 and 5x feels pretty good I would say out of All the modern Ultra boost sneakers this One is probably the softest underfoot With still some decent response maybe it Is isn't as plush as the ultra boost 19 Or Ultra boost 20 but it's definitely Soft it's definitely pretty responsive I'm not going to lie my favorite boost Cushion is the Boost from the ultra Boost 1.0 and 2.0 and 3.0 because that Boost was not worried about Responsiveness that boost was just soft Cushion underneath your foot the newer Ultra boo sneakers all sort of focus on Response and comfort and even though This shoe is technically a Max cushion Shoe it's not as soft underfoot as Something like the New Balance Rebel V4 Which if you got my review of this Sneaker and also my top 10 most Comfortable shoes of the year list this
This is in my opinion the softest Underfoot shoe of the entire year and While the ultra boost 5 and 5x are still Soft in fact they're softer than a lot Of the previous Ultra boost they're Nowhere near this so if you're asking is This the most comfortable shoe once Again like it was in 2015 absolutely not Is it the most comfortable Ultra boost Possibly unless I had all the different Ultra boosts together and compared them I couldn't tell you for sure plus Comfort is just so subjective Some People prefer really firm rides other People prefer very soft cushioned rides It really depends on what you're looking For to be fair the ultra boost Now isn't Even the most soft underfoot Adidas Sneaker that would probably go to the Add zero adios which to be fair is a Marathon running sneaker and because of That you know you can't really wear that Shoe for more than like 200 Mi before it Starts to break apart but with that Being said this is still a pretty soft Underfoot shoe and it is still Considered a Max cushion shoe now when It comes to a use case for the ultra Boost 5 and 5x I would say if you're Buying this as a running sneaker it's Definitely more of a recovery run style Sneaker it's for longer easier runs the Kind of runs that I do slow um runs it Is a decent running sneaker and the
Upper of the shoe feels incredible is Super breathable honestly ly the upper Of this shoe is probably one of my Favorite uppers on really any running Sneaker I mean the fuel cell Rebel v4s Are definitely more breathable because They've got this like super thin layer Of plastic mesh that really just holds Your foot in place and that's about it They're still very breathable and They're incredibly soft on your foot and They move with your foot really really Well so possibly for the first time ever In one of my ultra boost reviews I might Say that the upper of this shoe is Better than the midsole not saying the Midsole is bad but I think the upper is Just a more standout feature of this Shoe but finally moving to the bottom of The shoe you've got a continental rubber Outsole with some punch outs to reduce Weight the traction on this shoe Surprisingly is decent especially Compared to previous Ultra boo sneakers Mainly because it actually works Compared to previous Ultra boo sneakers And as you can see in the b-roll but Maybe not so much in hand because I've Worn this shoe a decent amount there is A torsion system between the Boost Midsole and the rubber outs soole of the Shoe which as the name would suggest Prevents torsional twisting so that you Get a more stable ride overall and
Generally this is a surprisingly stable Shoe more so than most other Max cushion Sneakers so if you're looking to grab The ultra boost 5 and 5x for running I Definitely think there are better Options out there in almost every Category especially for the price when It comes to Lifestyle wear I think this Shoe is definitely a solid everyday Choice it's very comfortable underf foot It does give you a couple inches if That's what you're looking for Height-wise stylistically I think this Is one of the best looking Ultra boost Sneakers that's released since the Original Ultra boost I think they're Finally going back to their Roots a Little bit even with just removing the Absurd heel boost area of some of the Newer Ultra boost sneakers I think that In general makes a shoe look way better And even though this midsole gradient Paint thing that's going on on this Colorway might not be for everybody I do Really like the potential that it has And I actually kind of dig this color Way this sort of white pink yellow Grayish color way I think is really Clean will this shoe become an everyday Casual sneaker for me probably not just Because I have other shoes out there That I prefer to wear but it is a solid Option it's definitely an improvement Over previous Ultra boo sneakers for
Sure it's probably the best modern Ultra Boost sneaker out there but if I were to Buy an ultra boost sneaker just to wear Casually I'd buy the ultra boost 1.0 if I was to buy a pair of sneakers to run In this would not be the option that I Would go with I just personally feel Like the ultra boost is kind of lost its Way it's not the best running sneaker Out there it's not the best lifestyle Sneaker out there it used to be both but Now it's just it's just not it's just Kind of a a wellknown name that it do to Sells and I think people will buy it Specifically for the name and because Yes it is comfortable underfoot but for $180 it's kind of a tough sell and I Don't know if it's a shoe that I'd pick Up again but hey if the shoe goes on Sale I definitely think it's worth Picking up and overall I'd say it's a Good pair of sneakers but at this point I would love to know your thoughts on The new Ultra boost 5 and 5x and whether You plan on grabbing a pair of these for Yourself or whether you already have a Pair of these so make sure to let me Know your thoughts in the comment Section down below as always thank you So much for watching make sure to Subscribe if you haven't yet and I will See you all in the next one
