Hey people welcome to the Run testers And in this video we've got a Multitester review of the new Under Arour velocity Elite 2 it's under arour Follow-up carbon shoe that now packs More paback foam in the midsole with the Aim of improving the ride has that Worked well watch on for our under arour Velocity Elite 2 Review so let's start with some quick Details then while Under Armour lists to Drop at 8 mil on the website they Confirmed to us that the stack kite Comes in at 30 9.5 m in the hill 37.5 m In the 4T for a 2 mil drop it weighs in At 9.1 o to 258 GS in my UK men's 8 and A half test shoe on price it comes in a Touch more expensive in the UK than the Last gen at £225 but it stays the same at $250 in The US onto that shoe whip round then the Biggest changes to the velocity Elite 2 Are in the midsole which now has a Bigger volume of bio based pabx foam With much of that added volume coming in The 4 foot speaking of which one thing To note here is that low Drop the shoes Are quite flat from the heel to the 4ot Until you hit the toe where there's a Big sharp sweep upwards in a really Pronounced 4ot rocker the Mido remains Dual density with a top layer of Bouncier more resilient Packs along with

A layer of firmer more durable Eva Under Armor flow towards the bottom that Durable flow also acts as a rubberless Weight saving no soul out soole now Inside there's a ful length carbon fiber Plate that's been updated to it's now With a scoop shape to encourage faster Foot turnover there's a cutout in the Mids sole too to save weight there's Also a tpe sock liner to add extra Resiliency and bounce on those Landings Up top you've got the same Warp 2.0 up As the last gen shoe medium to low Padded heel collar but notably much more Than you get on some carbon races and Trainers and the uppers are nicely Breathable with a good amount of flex So the fif for me in the Under Armour Velocity Elite 2 uh I had no issues at All it is a little bit of a um tight Issue there definitely not loads of Space in this shoe uh so if you've got Wider feet you might notice that I'm Says 8 in the UK absolutely fine but I Could I can feel that it's probably a Bit more of a restrictive shoe than You're going to find in uh some other Shoes is a race shoe so you generally Expect this going to be a little bit Narrow and Tighter on the feet but I did Notice it quite a bit with this shoe I Didn't have any issues but if I did have Slightly bigger feet I might have issues So the fit was all good for me in my

Normal running shoe size with the Under Armour velocity Elite I've got a uk9 Here which is my normal size it's got a Good amount of room in the toe box I'd Say but a nice tight hold around the Midfoot and heel in general I thought The upper was really well done actually All around is probably my favorite part Of the whole shoe H it's a really good Upper nice tight hole nice and Comfortable no heal irritation of my Achilles at all despite the fact it is a Little bit firm at the back there I had No problems with it so all around very Happy with a fit in my normal size so When it comes to size I've just run in a UK and a half which is my regular Running Sho size and under arour shoes And I would say the velocity 2 here they Fit really nicely I've got good hold in The hill they kind of hug around the Back of the Hill nicely got manag to get Pretty good lock down across the top of The midfoot I think you have to sort of Buckle the laces down quite tight to do That there is quite a lot of sort of Room across that midfoot one thing I did Find is the tongues are very narrow so You don't quite get that kind of full WRA feel that you might do with some Race shoes and I think maybe that kind Of accounts for some of the sort of Slight kind of insecurity there in the Midfoot and you can sort of see the gaps

My socks down either side it's a little Bit odd they basically haven't made the Tongues quite wide enough which is an Interesting one otherwise though plenty Room in the toe box lots of wiggle room I think really good amount of room Towards the end of the toes they are Arguably a little bit longit longer than Some other kind of raay shoes and Overall I think I would recommend going Through to sizing issues So I've done 55 km in the under arour Velocity Elite 2 I've done a couple of Interval sessions in it a hard 3K and a Park run all out and then an easy to Steady progression run to try a Different mix of Paces all around it's Quite different to lots of carbon shoes Out there I would say it's definitely Got a firmer feel a less bouncy and Springy feel all around and it feels Like a very low Drop shoe I know the Drop is listed at 8 mm but it doesn't Feel like that at all seen some reviews Where it's listed at 2 mm and that feels Much more to be the case it's really a Shuee I think that would favor 4ft Striking all around and like I say it Feels quite different to lots of carbon Shoes on the market you haven't got that Big bouncy feeling under foot doesn't Feel as propulsive but it is pretty far Still despite the fact it is quite heavy And that is I think a big problem with

The shoe it is heavier than most carbon Shoes and you know just seeing that is Never a very good start for a racing Shoe I'd say you want to kind of combat That weight with a very bouncy feeling And you don't really get that from the Shoe so it is quite different to what Else is out there one big difference I Think I had from the velocity Elite one Was that was a very versatile shoe quite Comfortable shoe to use for lots of Different types of running I don't get That at all with this shoe I think it's Partly because it feels like a much Lower drop but it feels a lot more Aggressive which is good for a racing Shoe it's not as verse stle but I think You know if you're paying this much Money for a carbon racer you want that Aggressive feeling you want it to feel Like a shoe you should be using for fast Running I definitely get that feeling With the velocity Elite 2 which I didn't Get so much from the velocity Elite one Which felt more much more like a trainer Racer all around but that does mean it's Not very good for easy Paces so you're Hoping to get a bit of Versatility out Of what it's quite durable design for a Super shoe I don't think you get that so Much here I only really liked it for Fast running particularly enjoyed it for Interval sessions I'd say so I did 400 Met reps in it a 10 times 4 session at

The track and I also did a 24 times 60 Seconds on 30 seconds off session in it And enjoyed it for that that's much more The kind of running I think that suits This shoe it's a good interval shoe Because when you're up your toes and Running hard I think you get the best Out of the shoe in terms of hitting the Deeper wedge of the bouncy of foam at The front there and it just felt better For me as someone who's normally a heel Striker but in those kind of short reps I'll move a bit more midot for foot it Felt a bit better all around and that's Kind of what I based my uh feeling about The shoe on that it's better for four Strik is for sure that CU When I Was was Back in my heels the low Drop really Comes into play and it doesn't feel very Natural and smooth to run FAS in the Shoe so that came into play when I was Looking at more sustained efforts like And I think this is not just to do with Heel striking versus forward striking I Just don't think it's a great super shoe For sustained effort so even over 3K or 5K just feels a shoe that gets a bit Sluggish when you're coming towards the End of that kind of distance like you You've gone all out you're pushing hard It doesn't feel like a shoe that really Helps carry you through those last few You know minutes or kilometers of a run Like that because it is a bit heavy it's

Not so bouncy it doesn't turn over very Easily it feels harder to engage the Plate and get a lot back from the shoe Than it does with other Super Shoes that I just brightly a lighter the foam's a Bit softer so you sink in a bit more Easily and get the plate bounced back This just feels a bit firm and I think Unless you're running hard like in an Interval doesn't really feel like you're Getting a lot of bounce back from it in My experience anyway also feels a little Bit bottom heavy with the foam you have Here like I don't know why under I Haven't just gone for a full pack midso Like it feels like an inevitable Development with the shoe that a future Model will just have the best foam they Have as its entire midso you can Definitely feel the weight and gets a Slightly slapp feeling from this foam at The bottom and it changes the feel of The shoe because it has adds extra firm Adds that slightly bottom heavy feel and Just means overall the shoe is quite Heavy and that just doesn't stand it in Good stad against other races actually During the time I was testing the shoe I Did a 10K in the original Nike VAP like 4% just for out of Interest really to See how that shoe felt compared to Modern races and honestly I'd rather be Racing in that shoe over any distance Than the under arour shoe and this has

Come out eight years later Under Armor Has had the time to develop a shoe to Try and combat this super shoe Revolution and it's come out with Something that I don't think is as good A racer as the original paper flight 4% It's a different shoe though so there is Some chance this will appeel to people Who are just aren't served by other Kinds of Super Shoes but even then You're still not getting a very Propulsive bouncy feeling and you're Getting a heavy shoe so that's not Really helpful I think if you're looking To make a fast racing shoe to make it Heavier than the first edition and just Heavier than the other shoes on the Market in general like the only other Shoes that really come close in weight I Things like hocus y X1 or the anidas Prime X original and they're heavy Because they've got loads of foam and It's really bouncy and they you know They're making use of that weight I just Don't feel that's the case so you're Getting the weight but not the bounce Not the explosive feeling so it's like The worst of Both Worlds basically so Yeah all around say my run test like you Got a different feel here to the Super Shoes that will appeal to some people But I don't think the performance is Quite there I think the Upp is very good And the outside has been fine for me the

Parker and I Ram was all on grass Actually in this shoe and it was fine But I just don't think in general you're Getting you know a real super shoe Feeling so I've done a few runs in this Year so far um a couple of them have Been uh fairly easyish runs for me so They're looking at like five minute per Kilometer uh and now I've done a faster Run run it about 430 minutes kilometer Um and what I found is that as car plate Shoes go um it's definitely not one of My favorites um it I think I think think About the shoe is it feels it feels Quite Nimble it feels quite Poppy the Plate definitely feels like it is it's It's doing something you feel like You're you're sort of springing with This shoe um but it doesn't feel Particularly bouncy uh which is Something that I really like in my uh Carbon plate shoes uh it definitely Doesn't feel like um shoes like the VAP Fly or the alpha to me they have a nice Combination of a plate with a really Propulsive bouncy Mido foam this feels Like the foam isn't really doing a lot You're getting a bit on that plate um But the foam is a little bit firm and Not really giving a lot back especially For somebody like me who really likes Soft bouncy Foams um over when you pick Up the pace in it if you're doing Intervals if you're doing shorter reps

In this shoe it seems to be where this Shoe works best uh it does feel very Nimble it does feel like you're sort of Springing forward quite nicely but I Don't think it's a very comfortable shoe I think the the way that the mids is Designed um and the feel of the uh foot As you land isn't very comfortable it it It feels a little bit strange on the Feet sometimes I'll land on it in Certain areas of the shoe and think it Just doesn't feel quite right and as a Result feels a little bit unstable Mainly around the 4 foot section here um Underneath the uh ball of my foot uh it Just feels like it's a little bit wobbly Around the area and it it can feel a bit Different depending on how you land in It and I don't really like that I like To feel a nice soft landing and a bounce Off which I don't get from this year it Feels a a little bit of a funny Landing Um I think as uh if for a short Distances 5K 10K things like that if You're or if you're doing intervals Speed sessions I think it does feel very Good you don't really need to worry too Much about that Landing of those because Of the way that you're you're running if You're going out for a longer run in This issue I think it starts to you Really start to see the the problems With the way that it's designed for Definitely my the way I run in my foot

Shape uh it just doesn't feel Particularly comfortable and it doesn't Feel conducive to just maintaining a Nice consistent uh running style um it Just feels a bit awkward um I do think It's an improvement on the previous Version I that shoe I would say very Similar things about I would say it was Designed for sh distances I would say That it was designed for um just fast Nimble um uh reps uh I do think this is A bit more comfortable I do think There's a little bit more to this foam Now uh and it definitely feels like a Shoe that I'm more likely to wear over That previous version but um it's not One that I definitely would want to wear Over a lot of my other shoes um I aside From those sort of changes I'm not a big Fan of the outso on the shoe I think it Would benefit from having a bit more Grip on it um I didn't have a major Issue with the grip but I can feel it Sometimes when I land that I would like A little bit more grip especially if I'm On a bit of an uneven surface in the Rain um so bit of an issue with the Outso on that other than that I didn't Really have any major issues with it um It just feels like a very specific type Of shoe to me so in testing in the Velocity Elite 2 I did most of my Efforts at a faster Pace intervals Marathon pace that kind of thing but

Through in some odd sort of slower runs Just to see how they hold up if you Moving slower can be useful if you're Looking at these as a marathon shoe First up I think Under Armor has Improved the velocity Elite 2 I quite Enjoyed the less aggressive ride of the Original as a trainer more than a racer And this shoe has a bit more umph it's One of those shoes where if I was stuck On a desert island with only this shoe To run in I'd probably be perfectly Happy with the overall performance and There's enough to like here a good fit Great stepping Comfort ay and breathable Uppers and a midsole that offers up some Energy but certainly lands on the firmer Stiffer side of things I believe it's an Interesting shoe in as much as it feels Quite different to a lot of the other Carbon races but more on that a little Bit later it's notably heavier than a Lot of speed Focus Shoes in fact only The Adidas Prim X2 strung comes in Heavier than this shoe now I don't mind Having a bit more kind of a traditional S more padded heel collar and trading a Bit of reliable comfort for weight but Unlike the equally heavy primex to Strong strong the ride for me with this Velocity Elite 2 doesn't quite punch Hard enough to make up for that extra Shoe that you've got here now the Velocity Elite 2 gives you more I think

When you're up mid to 4ot running with Purpose really attacking things but it's Still not quite as energetic as the Other leading carbon shoes the other Thing I found a little bit of that I Mentioned just a little bit earlier was When you drop back at slower Paces sort Of Landing further back you feel almost Like a knot of foam under the ball of Your foot and that doesn't feel entirely Natural it's almost like there's an All Or Nothing sweet spot for running in This shoe it's like you have to get up And over that knot that kind ball of Foam to get the shoe to really come to Life Landing further up on your toes to Do so otherwise you're running what is Quite a flat low Drop shoe now I'm quite A heavy sort of calf dominant Runner so I don't have too much of a problem with Being up on my toes like that but others Might feel that in their carves Post Run Might not be entirely comfortable the Other thing I've been impressed by on This shoe is the durability of that flow No so out so after 50 km some of it Offroad there's barely a scuff so that Is a big Tick Verdi it then I think this is a Step on from the original velocity Elite For sure and it might be under armour's Best shoo to date but it's still not Quite up there with the best carbon Racers on that kind of thrusting energy

Level I'd put it behind shoes like the Aex metas speed Sky Paris the Adidas Adios Pro 3 and the Nike Alpha fly for Allout race punch even if it's not the Liveliest though there are positives to This shoe there's definitely more energy From the two foam midsole versus the old Velocity and a real stiffness to the Carbon plate that I think works really Well with that big sweeping toe to Create a fun and Lively ride when you're Up on your toe that responds more the Faster you go and the further up on your Toes that you kind of punch with this Shoe that said it's a bit heavy on the Prim X2 strong side but without the wild Energy of that shoe and that hampers its Potential somewhat though Comfort was Good with a really easy unfussy fit that Lends itself I think to maybe longer Miles in the shoe I could certainly see Myself using these for faster training Runs like 10 miles with faster intervals Built in but they wouldn't be my first Choice for allout racing that's partly As well because of the price they're More expensive than the aex metas speed Sky Paris and the Adidas adios Pro 3 and Even the hoker rocket X2 come in cheaper I don't think I'd choose them above Those shoes now if Under Armour had set These in under or close to the 200 pound Mark I think it would make them Certainly more compelling particularly

Up against some of the super trainers That are now landing at around that Price point but overall while I enjoyed My miles in in testing levelo Elite 2 Gets a good but not great for me to my Verdict on the velocity Elite 2 U I Think it is an improvement on the Previous version I think Under Armour is Learning and making changes Unfortunately I think it's still a Little bit behind uh the changes that a Lot of other people making so even Though it is better than the previous Version I still think it's a long way Off a lot of the the big players uh that Are out there at the moment things like The sky Paris obviously things like the Alphafly 3 um it just feels like those Shoes have a lot more to them they've Got a very nice combination of plates of Midol foam that just really delivers a Fantastic efficient way of running Especially over long distances I don't Think this shoe has that I think if when You get to longer distances I think it The cracks start showing and you just Doesn't doesn't feel great for me do Something doesn't feel quite right about It short distances I think it's Absolutely fine so if you're picking This shoe up and you just want to speed Shoe if you if you're going to do 5Ks if You're going to do track sessions and Things like that I think it's absolutely

Fine for that probably comparable with Most of my other carbon plate shoes but When you go to those longer distances That's when this shoe sort of loses um Any benefits and can feel a bit Awkward Over time so um in the list of comp PL Shoes I think it's very it's quite far Down for me uh even though it isn't Improvement but um I think under ARA Needs to really focus on that foam build Uh in the bottom of the shoe and really Work out a nice comfortable and add a Bit more bounce into it um to make it a Better running experience if you're Planning on running half marathons and And marathons in this shoe because at The moment it just feels a bit lacking My ver is that this isn't a shoe that Works for me I think it's a shoe that Will work better for other people but I Think even if there a Shoe that really Suits your style really suits your Preferences I still don't think the Performance is there to be right up There with other Super Shoes I think We're really talking about fine margins With lots of different Super Shoes out There like my favorite one out there is The aex metas speed Sky Paris I think The Nike Al 3 is amazing I think Nike fa F 3 is also very good and there are lots Of shoes that I think are very close in Terms of performance level and it a lot Will come down to your preferences in

Terms of brand or style or drop or feel Under Foot but the Under Armor I think Isn't in that tier so you know even Accounting for preferences and that I Just don't think it has the performance Of those top Super Sho so some people Really like this shoe though I do think It's a good interval shoe as I talked About in the run test it is I think a Better racing shoe than the original uh Velocity Elite but not by much and that Still doesn't really like I say elevate It into the competitive tier with the Other really good races out there can Still obviously run fast in a shoe I Enjoy doing my sessions in it I enjoyed Running a hard 5K but I just don't think The performance is quite as good as Other Super Shoes out there and the Price is you know at the same level as Those other Super Shoes but that said I Have already seen it reduced to more Like 160 I think if it falls into the Kind of super trainer Price Zone think Like 16010 that kind of thing it is an Interesting shoe because like I say it Is quite different to lots of shoes on The market I'd still rather be in Something like the Endorphin speed with The higher Drop The Rocker the rolling Sensation slightly softer foam or the Adidas Boston 12 I'd prefer as a super Trainer to this shoe but if you like That firmer feeling if you are a big

Four- foot Striker if you just like a Low Drop in particular because actually Lots of low Drop shoes out there don't Always feel very low Drop CU they're Really exaggerated Rockets with this Shoe I think you feel that low Drop and If you like that you will like this shoe It is a good feeling shoe under foot for That but I do think that Stacks the Market against it and ends up being a Little bit Niche and looking at it Purely as a Brand's top tier carbon Racer I think it falls short of what you Can get elsewhere so enjoyed running in It I think it's a good shoe but that's Just not enough these days when you're Talking about this very expensive very Impressive Market of Super Shoes you're Just going to get slightly less out of This one compared to other ones and that Means it falls behind quite considerably In my eyes because other shoes are just So good these days so there you have it That's been our look at the new Under Armour velocity Elite 2 we hope you Found it useful don't forget to hit like If you did if you're fancy hearing when New content arrives on the channel hit That subscribe button too if you're Interested in top carbon race I'm going To pop a video up on the channel just About now up here that you need to watch Otherwise as ever thank you very much For coming by and watching we hope to
